Dat kiss of death. Don Scorsese would be proud.

This was the best Oscar telecast in history, as expected for an evening that was not hosted by a tragically redundant straight male.

I generally enjoy Leo in a lot of films but for whatever reason I can't think of many I'd label as oscar worthy...

I think this is the best Oscars ever, with the exception of Miyazaki being shut out by the Disney flick of the year.

Miyazaki didn't make the better film this year IMO so even that sat well with me. Hard to really fault the way the awards went. I was surprised by The Act of Killing not getting documentary but i haven't seen most of the other nominees or the winner so can't really comment.

And not sure about Gravity for the score, just don't quite remember it, when I remember quite distinctly enjoying the score in Saving Mr Banks and Her. It is slightly strange that The Great Gatzby get two Oscars and Wolf gets none, though It did win in the right places. Would have liked Captain Philips to get something too, shame it was so competitive in the categories it excelled in. Quite happy for American Hustle to get looked over though, the same people got enough recognition for the better Silvers lining playbook.

Really happy 12 years a slave though, it deserves it.

(But Brad Pitt looks real smug on that stage, he does have a good eye though, was he up there for The. Departed too? I know he was the one who bought the remake rights.)

I forgot Cucumbersnatch was in 12YAS, I was wondering what he was doing at the show.

:lol

"It's his fault because I don't get him"

Well I haven't liked any of the movies he has made and he's the sole common denominator. So in my personal case, I can only assume he's the reason I don't like them. I don't really have the time or patience to analyze the why.

I'm saying they're not averse to Gravity and what it represents.

I don't think they're averse to Gravity in general, obviously not, but what they are averse to is giving a sci-fi film their biggest, most "serious" prize, as evidenced by no sci-fi film ever winning the award in its history.

I feel like gravity and 12 years a slave were good but man they didn't deserve all those awards... like captain phillips and wolf of wall street should of won something. And will smith giving the award to 12 years a slave was kinda odd to me. No racism intended

Whoever was producing it was really, really good about keeping the pacing fast. There were a couple of rough spots here and there, but it kept moving along and didn't really feel like they were filling in dead air. This is how it should be done.

True true, the host bits weren't overwrought, simple selfie bit, pizza bit, badabing badabam, leo lost lets go home.

I just realized 2001 wasn't even nominated. Holy shit.

I would've been okay with him winning for Wolf, Django, or Aviator. He'll win one day, it's not a big deal. MM had a great performance and was deserving as well.

If Gravity won best score then it must have been a weak year. Gravity is the only score I've listened to from the nominees and it is very forgetable.

You're probably not wrong, but I don't think it applies here. It would all boil down to our opinions of Gravity if we wanted to continue this discussion though.

captain Phillips is a story that has been told many times on tv movies/discovery channel shows and so on. it wasn't a bad movie but was like watching a rerun.

I haven't see wolf yet but i hope its better than 12 years a slave which I thought was fine but not overly interesting. the thing about 12 years that bothered me the most was
why he simply didn't mail the letter himself when he was in town to buy crap for his masters wife.

Was anyone else weirded out by this? He dedicates his award to everyone who was a slave and the millions STILL in slavery and then hops up and down seven seconds later?

I guess that's why he had to write it down. That's what he wanted to say and thank, but knew that emotions would get to him, which is understandable.
