12 Years was the best movie this year, despite what you think is BP worthy.
Care to tell me why?

I thought it was a pretty decent ceremony. Outside of "The Act of Killing" winning best docu and "Her" winning best original screenplay, there were really no surprises at all. I (and I'm sure everyone else) was able to correctly predict the winners in all the major categories.
:/
'Her' was an amazing scifi film, one of the best in recent memory, but most small scifi films are really good
He said in the behind-the-scenes video, he wanted to people to think it's just a film set in modern day, space.
Yep, shortened quote (the rest kinda it softens it) but this is the bit that people fixate on.
Umm it didn't win.
They're both scifi, whether the directors want to admit it or not. lolHer is more sci-fi than gravity.
Sorry but Joaquin's performance in The Master alone shits all over that resume.Joaquin has nowhere near the resume that Leo has
Wonder how many more decades it will take before a sci-fi film finally gets best picture
LOLIt's a science film... that's fictional. LOL. Genre labels are always amorphous, but I feel pretty comfortably saying it's a sci-fi film.
Woody Allen has dissed the awards in the past and has still won/got nominated. And Woody never even shows up to the ceremony. My god, he won't be nominated for anything for the rest of his life.

12 Years was not best picture worthy IMO.
Shot and acted amazingly, and I'm sure the source book was very incredible, but the time dilation just didn't come across well. If the movie weren't called 12 years a slave, I would have thought the whole thing took place over a couple weeks or months.
Still, decent film, very hard to watch in parts, but I don't think it should have won the top award.
"It often gets taken out of context for maximum impact, so I'm gonna do that"

This gonna be some drama.
So, just got off work. Winners were pretty damn predictable.
Any highlights, lowlights? Any of the ladies look particularly astounding?
Emma Watson was hnnnng as ever but no one stood out much this year unfortunately. So, just got off work. Winners were pretty damn predictable.

Yeah, he had zero humility or class in that regard.
There should be a gif of Harrison Ford garbing a pizza slide around this thread.

JUPITER ASCENDING!!!
Yah right. Maybe when a movie will deserve one.
Gattaca is probably the only sci-fi movie that deserved one as far as I can remember, and even that is a stretch.
Head and shoulders over any of the best picture nominees that year too.2001: A Space Odyssey wasn't even nominated, and that's pretty much head and shoulders above most scifi.
Harlan Ellison would punch me in the mouth if I talked to him regardless. :-(Thinking too deeply on it, I wonder if Harlan Ellison would punch me in the mouth if I asked him if Gravity is sci-fi
The Croods had a much better story, and characters as far as i am concerned.HELL NO.
damn, how is frozen netting $1 billion at the box office?

My boy Brad Pitt got an Oscar before Leo
Family film.
I'm surprised Steve McQueen even cares that much about an Oscar, always struck me as the type of director that would think it's all a bit rubbish.Yeah, he had zero humility or class in that regard.
Yeah, it's no big deal, it's not like the 21 million people enslaved today would be allowed to watch the Oscars.Let the guy have some fun. He just received the biggest accolade you can achieve in his profession.
Really? The only science fiction movie in history that might have deserved best picture is Gattaca?

My sources attributing John Ridley-Steve McQueen cold shoulder at Oscars tonight to dispute over screenplay credit.

disney has made much better ones though.
Going to agree. Also, I thought that Jared Leto, John Ridley, Cate Blanchett, and Matthew McConaughey all gave great speeches.

It's a fun, well-made family film with some catchy songs - powered by the Disney marketing machine.
