He probably wishes he's as important, powerful and influential as a Lovecraftian horror.I thought people were kidding, but no, the legends were true. The man is actually some sort of internet-based Lovecraftian horror.
I think people should look at that Line of Defense trailer on its Steam page.
It's just sad. The fact that anyone is comparing that to Star Citizen of all things speaks volumes about that person.
Then completely - and utterly - underestimated my industry reach, influence and resources.
Exactly, how can I take anything about this seriously when Line of Defense already exists.

I think derek smart is pretty terrible.
But i think people SHOULD be skeptical of star citizen. theres a ton of money there. A ton. And the ONLY return backers are going to see from their investment is a game. The quality of that game is under scrutiny till we all have it.
As for why other new outlets havent run anything from this story, a major one just got caught running an uncharted 4 preview that was actually uncharted 2. lets not pretend game journalism is hard hitting and far reaching.
Google alert engaged!
Both Polygon and Kotaku have run incredibly well made and critical article's on star citizen.
This article is shit. Still.
SoI just did a search and as far as I can tell, there's no OT for Line of Defense MMO.
According to Derek on the game's Steam Forum it will be final before year's end.
Maybe it's time that someone that bought early access can make a thread about the game itself?
So
No one.
The game is a MMO and the max concurrent users it has un the last months is the huge number of 2.
It also has the huge number of copies sold possibly less than 1000.
This post in the SA thread is getting some attention.
http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...rid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=452#post451403347
and the first post was just updated to include this:
For context, "DickWulf" there is referring to Accelewraith, a prominent supporter of SC (frequently opposing Derek) who has backed for 20k and had previously posted on reddit about struggling with depression.
Well, those are the same forums that took it upon themselves to crowd fund Doobie's Dog House BarBQ, and only after funding him found out he's rather far right and RACIST. Many laughs were had at their own expense.Well, those forums are aptly named. A fitting place for Derek to dwell.
WOW, what! I have to look up more about that.DickWulf is a creepy guy who keeps harassing women by sending them dickpicks, his dick is on Something Awful because he sent it to a members wife, but CIG banned the guy who complained about him from their convention because DickWulf is such a big backer.
Yeah red731, that wasn't lost on me, and I thought about your post when he appeared. Good call though. heheheGoogle alert engaged!

As far as I can tell, there's nothing solid to back that up. People keep repeating things as fact and that builds on itself and gets more detailed as they go, but the material it's based on is really weak.

Kate Russell's parody video got DMCA'd after all. After he said it wouldn't happen:
https://twitter.com/katerussell/status/654352583931371520
"Spoken to @dsmart were cool. Good sense of humour & isn't flagging my vid. Plus now knows where make video private button is on YT "
He claims it was an accident:
https://twitter.com/dsmart/status/654393535907672064
"@Gamewiz_X don't panic. just had a chat with @katerussell to figure it out. they removed the copycats, as all were flagged on Mon. am on it"
Now to see if it comes back.
Edit2: Derek commented on the KiA thread about it (they're not pleased):
https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAc...ipdrama_derek_smart_issues_bogus_dmca/cw02kc7
Looking a bit further down: "I don't give two shits about your stupid GamerGate bullshit. It has NO place in this discussion."
Burning some bridges there.

Want to know what's even funnier? An all time peak of 111 players, ouch. I did not know about Steam Charts, cool tool, thanks for that.
Quite a fair look at the current state of Line of Defense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBbv24IK5tg
He's able to walk around the station, teleport to the surface from the airlock, and walk around the suface and try shooting some things. There are a few static NPC models placed around which don't move and aren't affected by the shots.

You're an obsessive lunatic and your earrings looks silly
Anyone with a full functioning brain cell is already well aware of how full shit you are. You're pretending people don't have more than a decade of evidence and frankly it's getting incredibly tiring to see you propel yourself up onto this pedestal of higher intelligence and pretending that anyone who doesn't agree with you is in some way stupid, when it's incredibly clear who the stupid one is. Since we're on the topic of justification, justify why you keep banning people on Steam for reporting problems in your game.
and now there's a new review in response:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ8IT9WxlkI
"Again I tried to stay as unbiased and professional as I could. Admittedly it was a bit harder to do so all things considered. I would like to stress that the feature for Quick Help that he states that I never opened was not added to the game until today with the most recent update."
I'm surprised so many people in this thread (and on GAF) are totally partisan with this whole fiasco when they should, in fact, be more agnostic and skeptical of all parties involved.

The first post is ad personam, while the latter mostly criticizes deeds & behaviour. Not saying that's it, but there is a difference. Why was the first guy banned and the second guy not?
OT but that is how all social security or insurance coverage works.I can't wrap my head on the idea that someone would actually fork over tens of thousands of dollars for something that may or may not actually be fully produced on an unspecified time in an uncertain future.
That's just... wow.
Unbelievable.
The arrogance and hypocrisy Derek displays is astounding. So the game is only in early access so Derek can test a fucking button. Wow. That explains the hostility towards feedback.
You should go get a refund before you run it for too long and lose the opportunity to get one.
LOD is really getting hammered on two Steam Scam forum Groups:

I rememeber years ago Smart used to post on the Voodoo Extreme (http://www.ve3d.com now owned by IGN, the site has been gone for a while) comment sections.. I'd go toe to toe with him a lot there.
Ridiculous man.
Plenty of grievances there. Has any Steam game ever been pulled from Early Access?

It's interesting what Lee says in the beginning of that video, that he has only recently become aware, like many of us, that Line of Defense even exist, and only because of Derek's controversy with Star Citizen. Unfortunately for LOD, I don't think it was attention this game need being in it's current state (although it has been in development for 5 years). I mean there isn't anything to actually do in the game. LOD is like a tech demo from 2006.Quite a fair look at the current state of Line of Defense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBbv24IK5tg

So, just wondering, how many people posting in this thread have been blocked by Derek's Twitter account?
I was blocked by him on my first tweet back during the "Escapist clarify sources" thread." I was a little pissed back then about some of the comments Derek made, what with the Glass Houses angle going on with this.

There is something to be said about a developer trying to dev crunch after five years of development and multiple extended release push backs spending this much time on social media. I don't develop video games but I'm pretty sure this is not common practice in the industry for those trying to push a game out, in fact, I'm pretty sure it's the opposite. This will all be the more interesting a year from now when we find out how much Star Citizen and Line of Defense end up succeeding or failing.
The second link shows 178.69 tweets per day. Not entirely sure what the difference between the links are though.EDIT: Ah, his stats show a meager 106 tweets per day. I was way off.

That's just... wow.
Derek took the time from his development schedule for Line of Defense to create a subreddit so he could doxx another redditor ... and got himself banned from Reddit?

OK then!
