In ACoKs Dany goes into the house of the undying where she sees glimpses of the past and present, plus hears a series of propecies. I've got two questions about this.

What were the glimpses of the past and future again?

And are the prophecies addressed? I know at least one is, Jorah betrays her etc.

For the second question a yes or no answer please, I've yet to read ADWD.

Edit: I've just found them again, it's amazing how much he planned story wise.

Yeah it makes me wonder if the prophecy we saw in the series is going to be fulfilled as i recall that one isnt in the book.

Almost finished AFFC. Arya, Brienne, and Samwells story are just so pointless. I just don't know what he intends to do with them. Does book 5 make it more clear?

I have my theory about Arya, that she will become a Hitman and kill all the people on her list, that's it.

This is the unmarked spoilers thread. Do you want an answer to that question?

Get the books narrated by Roy Dotrice, they are excellent.

Roy Dotrice is the only way to go. He's incredible. If I were to nitpick, I'd say he's a little inconsistent when you get to AFFC and ADWD (in terms of retaining character voices perfectly that have been around from the very first books), but that's gotta have more to do with how many years had passed since he originally did the earlier books.

Fun Fact: He was originally supposed to play Maester Pycelle on the TV show, but couldn't commit to a large role like that. He instead appears as the pyromancer Hallyne in season 2.

Anyone got the audiobooks for ASOIAF? Are they any good and who is the reader?

Thanks in advance.

They are some of the best I've ever heard.

AFFC doesn't use Roy Dotrice, unless they released a 2nd version of the audiobook using him. The guy on mine sounds completely different and not nearly as good.

He was back for ADWD, but you could definitely hear the change in his voice caused by advanced age and illness compared to the original three books.

Yes or no would be ok. No detail, I'm a bit annoyed with the series after AFFC. It just didn't go anywhere.

Arya's story kind of goes somewhere. You don't hear about Sam at all in the 5th book, though I'll refrain from what happens to him at the end of AFFC. There really isn't much of Brienne at all in ADWD. She's in like one chapter and that is it.

Do you know that events in AFFC and ADWD go side by side? ie at one point you see Jon's POV when he sends Sam south.

Arya and Samwell are not in ADWD, which may be a good thing depending on your perspective. It's hard to discuss Brienne if you haven't finished AFFC simply because the arc gets better and may change your perspective. I agree she probably had the worst POV in the series though.

It sounds terrible. The first sex scene with drogo and dany will make you cringe.(its one guy doing both their voices)

I saw this porn from Sweden or some shit a long time ago. Anyway, it was dubbed and the same guy was doing the voices of the guy and the girl. Also it's pretty clear he did not speak the language he was dubbing and was just making shit up. Funniest thing I've ever seen.

He didn't initially do it, probably because he's in high demand a lot of the time, but there is a Dotrice version available.

I agree he's not 100% consistent (which is why I brought it up) but he is one of the best out there as far as audiobook speakers who turn out a consistently good reading. I've listened to my fair share and have been continuously impressed.

Also, when you try to shuffle around voices for nearly 224 characters over a decade or two, I think I can cut the guy some slack if the consistency drops a few ticks here and there.

Cheers to everyone who replied, I'm going to have a look at them, I'm used to Audiobooks so I'm not going to be bothered by some of those small complaints.

Once again, thanks guys! :)

Well uh I guess you could say that it went somewhere. The plot tends to get incredibly convoluted and at times I feel like Martin has lost touch (hearsay I know) with ASOIAF, but that's just my opinion. A Dance with Dragons makes the story more exciting for sure. But there was something a bit off about the whole book; when I read A Feast for Crows the writing still felt like Martin, but in A Dance with Dragons, it was a bit...off. Still very top-notch fantasy story telling for sure, but just different. Nothing gets resolved either (lots of fluff in my opinion but who am I to say these things?).

Hope that answers your questions (although it has been a long time since reading the series. I suspect it will be a very long time until I pick it up again).

Granted, he didn't spoil the ENTIRE thing so there still is some room for shock, just said that Robb will die at his Uncle's Wedding, but even that is too much said :(

What a twat.

One of the things I hate is when somebody randomly spoils something that isn't even the same topic that you're discussing (especially when it's something that is still "current").

I was rereading GOT and I noticed that Tyrion and Jon befriended at one point. Do you think we will have more scenes of them togheter? Because I don't really see the point in taking Tyrion to the wall, he did nothing there.

They will be bros when Dany returns and they will be dragon riders together

I'd rather Sandor remain at the Quiet Isle, it seems like a fitting end to his character's arc. I expect we'll see him return at some point, though.

A character like Sandor needs a redemption moment. Plus there's way too much fratricidal rage bubbling under the surface to NOT utilize.

Seems likely that he'll take up the sword again to fight Gregorstein.

Does that seem likely? Because from the books I've read that doesn't even remotely seem likely. GRRM doesn't write neat little packaged story arcs were the wronged brother gets his final revenge.

I'd say when he pulled Arya off The Tickler that was about as close to a "redemption moment" we're going to get - aside from him joining the monastery off page.
