Sorry, but that's how I did it my whole life. Not easy, since there are too many assholes out there, but it was worth it. I'm living my dream, not only paying the bills.

So you can be unemployed, on the street, hand out to society, and live off of your pride? Leech off family and friends because you can't fathom being a worker bee? Need respect thrown at you the moment you walk in the door versus actually earning the respect of others???

No one is saying stay at a job that sucks where you're disrespected...That is dumb...What is smart to do is work there while finding a different job, put up with the BS for the sake of the bigger picture....And he was unemployed with a criminal record...I'd say he needed a job...Needed it enough to put up with some red tape for the greater good of his life....Nothing has changed in society because Thacker stood up to the man...Nothing...He's still unemployed...The boss couldn't care less...Only one who's out anything is Thacker..but hey, still got that pride..lol..

Once again, work is called work for a reason and this concept seems to be lost on a growing number of people..

Wow. When this was quoted a couple of pages ago, I thought it was a hypothetical, as in, "maybe this is what the owner would've replied if he had the chance," but I went back to check since there were so many references to it.

If this is the real (sanitized) version of the owner's email, it confirms what most of the posters in the thread were saying, the "wait" was just there to give the OP time to complete the paperwork (and probably give the owner a bit of time to catch up on the work caused by the two techs leaving and having to interview candidates.) The OP blew a great chance at a decent salary (with overtime pay) because he lacked patience and enough self-confidence to ask the receptionist for more information. And the owner's response is more professional than the OP deserves.

Reading the thread before I fell asleep it would seem he was intentionally acting this way. At least I hope so..... I find it hard to fathom how someone could just blame all problems on the company/boss like that.

Reading your post, work sounds like a bad thing. Work can be fun too. Work can also include awesome staff and a great human being as a boss. Sure, it's not easy, but you know, there is always the possibility to start something on your own. And to me, it's not smart to go everyday to a job which makes you sick. Even then when you are searching a new one at the same time. People shouldn't put up with shit like that.

I just think the thread got blown out of proportion, because it seems the OP doesnt find fault in anything and tries to blame everyone else besides himself.

He was chit-chatting with the woman, but havent asked why he still has to wait? I could maybe understand it if the OP had some appointment after that, but it seems he had all the time in the world. I would first ask myself, if maybe there might be some reason why the employer/HR doesnt have the time right now instead of running out.

I dont think it has to do anything with respect, but maybe something happened at the office that needed to be taken care of.

Sure, it's not easy, but you know, there is always the possibility to start something on your own.

It all started one day long ago, when our man Thacker posted a most sorrowful tale filled with tragedy and misfortune, about how a shrill and evil ex-girlfriend beat him with a phone after a "mutual" physical altercation. This girlfriend then became the head of some powerful company, malevolently shutting down all his job opportunities one after the other until, despondent, he turned to NeoGAF and made that first thread.

Filled with a sense of social activism, he tireless campaigned (in the NeoGAF topic) for sympathy and empathy for the tragic miscarriage of American justice in which a mere misdemeanor could mean someone as ALPHA and as talented as he - easily worth 80k at least - could not get a job. Understandably, NeoGAF's liberal elite agreed with this. But NeoGAF is a harsh mistress, and it wasn't so long before we turned to consume our own.

For Thacker made a second topic, A Tale of 'Merica and Milk (retitled from its original thread release 1.0), in which he finally had a job interview with someone willing to pay him 70k. In his first e-mail, this fucking 80s Reagan-era wannabe had the AUDACITY to ask him for his salary history and references. Knowing immediately this was a power play by some fucking trust fund kid out of control, he kept his composure and said he would respond later with his references and kept his salary history confidential. He was a player, and he knew it.

So he arrives at the interview early, and quickly finishes the forms they ask him to fill out. And then the horrific waiting game begins. Minute after minute ticks by. What seems like an eternity. The assistant knowingly sipping on her coffee, every suck amplified a million times as if an atomic bomb was going off in the empty minimalist lobby. He looked hastily at his watch: FORTY FIVE FUCKING MINUTES!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?

He looked and saw the man who was to give his interview on the phone. He angrily grumbled to himself and said internally he was NOT going to be taken advantage of, and his gut told him something was not right. So he got up and left. Like a fucking baller. He left. And then he got anxious and made this topic. Realizing he may have reacted... hastily... he decides to e-mail the guy.

Now as you can tell from reading it, as you might expect this is exactly the type of letter that says "PRIME WORKPLACE CANDIDATE, I SHOULD FORGET THAT LITTLE STUNT AND HIRE HIM", but no. That's not what happened. He got this response instead:

Having just been given a SERVED SANDWICH with a side of PWNAGE lettuce, he began to defend his gut feeling, even despite every single person on NeoGAF saying it was insane and he should just wake up tomorrow with a new attitude.

He grew embittered, sensing yet another miscarriage of social justice, he begins to accuse us all of being a perfect example of why the very fabric of society is crumbling, replete with references to wealth inequality and the death of the middle class. Crying eagles and american flags unfurled themselves as his patriotic banter, but it was not long to be.

For in a closing salvo, he informs NeoGAF that they have overdosed on milk and estrogen, which is why we don't understand his perspective of standing up for himself and leaving immediately after 45 minutes. If only we had dipped far less cookies in our milk, mayhaps we could have grasped his vision of the world.

As the CTO of a mid size firm that does a ton of interviews I have to say 45 mins is nothing. Worst there was an application and a test!!?? You have to be kidding me. This is one of the most idiotic interview stories I have ever heard.

Let me give the Thacker and others some advise. DONT EVER SHOW UP 15 MINS EARLY!! Well come 15 mins early but don't walk in until 1 or 2 mins before. Managers are busy people and you showing up early only screws up their schedule. The owner Thacker was talking to obvious has a process for interviewees and Thacker showing up early screwed up this timing. Truly Thacker is at fault here. Managers should never keep you waiting for too long and its definitely disrespectful but if you show up early and if they tell you here is a test and application then they most likely scheduled you for much later.

Interviewing, for employers, is a very expensive thing to do. Your time is not worth more than the person you are being interviewed by quite simply because they have to interview 100 terrible candidates with only a few actually worth talking to. You on the other hand know are pretty sure you would take the job.
