I found a thread from 2005, but I didn't want to bump it. Thousands of games have been released between then and now, so I thought a new thread should be appropriate. Lock/delete if not.
In the interest of encouraging people to contribute to this thread, spoilers should be marked.
Anyway, I got some beef.
I just finished Monster Tale for the DS. By no means an essential title, it is a fun little Metroidvania with Henry Hatsworth combat and a "deep pet raising sim" where you nurture a monster called Chomp into a badass sidekick. It's alot of fun, despite some ridiculous backtracking (yes, even for a Metroidvania), and it looks gorgeous on my XL. It took me 11 hours to get credits.
Towards the end of the game, I was notified that I was at the last save point, so I used that knowledge to grind my monster and unlock every available form. I did this a) because it was fun and achievable, and b) because I know there was an extra scene in the ending for 100%ing the game. It took me just over an hour to achieve the 99.9 or so % required before heading to the final boss, who I destroyed first time thanks largely to my newly aquired, fully evolved companion.
I anticipated finishing the game in order to finally meet the fabled mother of Chomp, who had been kidnapped by the bad guys before the game even began, and learning its origins. The mother had been mentioned numerous times and appeared to be a vital component to the story. At the very least I expected to be able to finally see a picture of the mother with my fully evolved monster, and think "Cool".
So, that's the lamest ending I've ever witnessed. What are yours?
Also, in before Halo 2. Too obvious.

But it was not to be. I got congratulatory gubbins from some NPCs, and then a dialogue telling me that I met the mum and went home. Followed by a single image of my protagonist staring out a window at school. That's it. The credits rolled, and I didn't see a single noteworthy image in the credits. I was thoroughly disappointed, and it actually ruined my otherwise fond memories of playing through the game.
