A thread of lame game endings *spoilers marked*

I found a thread from 2005, but I didn't want to bump it. Thousands of games have been released between then and now, so I thought a new thread should be appropriate. Lock/delete if not.

In the interest of encouraging people to contribute to this thread, spoilers should be marked.

Anyway, I got some beef.

I just finished Monster Tale for the DS. By no means an essential title, it is a fun little Metroidvania with Henry Hatsworth combat and a "deep pet raising sim" where you nurture a monster called Chomp into a badass sidekick. It's alot of fun, despite some ridiculous backtracking (yes, even for a Metroidvania), and it looks gorgeous on my XL. It took me 11 hours to get credits.

Towards the end of the game, I was notified that I was at the last save point, so I used that knowledge to grind my monster and unlock every available form. I did this a) because it was fun and achievable, and b) because I know there was an extra scene in the ending for 100%ing the game. It took me just over an hour to achieve the 99.9 or so % required before heading to the final boss, who I destroyed first time thanks largely to my newly aquired, fully evolved companion.

I anticipated finishing the game in order to finally meet the fabled mother of Chomp, who had been kidnapped by the bad guys before the game even began, and learning its origins. The mother had been mentioned numerous times and appeared to be a vital component to the story. At the very least I expected to be able to finally see a picture of the mother with my fully evolved monster, and think "Cool".

But it was not to be. I got congratulatory gubbins from some NPCs, and then a dialogue telling me that I met the mum and went home. Followed by a single image of my protagonist staring out a window at school. That's it. The credits rolled, and I didn't see a single noteworthy image in the credits. I was thoroughly disappointed, and it actually ruined my otherwise fond memories of playing through the game.

So, that's the lamest ending I've ever witnessed. What are yours?

Also, in before Halo 2. Too obvious.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile.

Using Klonoa, fabricating his memories so he would feel compelled to help and lying about it the entire time? Wow, Hewpoe is a first class bastard

So Grampa wasn't ever real to begin with?
I don't recall him interacting with anyone else besides Klonoa and Hewpoe so that's doable (Joker does kill him though but maybe he was just shooting the house for the lulz). That or little cunning Hewpoe messed with the old man's head too to help with his plans.
What's worse is that they try to paint it like it's a
heartwarming ending with both Hewpoe and Klonoa still acting all sad and cute like true friends being separated when in fact it's all bs
.

All-time, Shinobi on Master System.
Beat the final boss and get "Game Over" message. No final credits, final scene, nothing.

Most recently for me is Infamous no matter which side you take and Darksiders
because my body is instantly ready for a sequel after beating Uriel.

MGS 4 for me. Yeah, yeah, I know, but what really grinds my gears is that they put such enormous effort into making a 40-goddamn-minute-long cut scene, only to fill it with bollocks.

:( I liked the Klonoa Ending.
Most people seem to like it but I found it to be infuriating when I stopped to think about what happened, lol. :'(

I think the worst ending I've ever seen was Eye of the Beholder on PC back in the day.

You just played this RPG for like 100 hours and you beat it and it's literally a screen with text that says "You beat the beholder and escape the dungeon" or something.

Later I learned that Westwood had made an awesome ending for it, and Virgin cut it so the game could fit on a single floppy disc.

Most Gradius/Parodius/etc games. It's on purpose, so it's kinda funny, though.

For instance, in Gradius V,
the 2nd level has you destroy a tiny part of the final boss (it's easy, it won't ever attack you), then the last level has you destroy a 2nd tiny part of the final boss (also very easy), then the boss wakes up, talks about controlling the universe, then dies. So anti-climatic.

Mafia 2

There's a crime family and one guy has gone rogue so you go ahead and kill him to find your best friend there. Your best friend turns on him and helps you get rid of the guy. You walk outside step in a car, "Eddie wasn't part of the deal" they drive away, fin.

8/10 hours of 'story' wrapped up in a 2 minute cutscene.

The wife was playing FEAR 3 and was gearing up for the end game. Booted up the 360 and fifteen minutes later I hear, "THIS IS BULLSHIT. THAT'S THE FUCKING ENDING? I THOUGHT I HAD ANOTHER FUCKING LEVEL AND THEY LEAVE ME WITH THIS SHIT?"

She's probably not the only one, and was a huge FEAR fangirl but I think that ended it.

Just your basic, shitty, cliffhanger ending like the above Mafia 2.

Advent Rising:
The classic already assuming there is a sequel ending that is meaningless. Hero get taken through a portal to an unknown ice environment after the final battle, some alien picks him up and says, "there is much to do" and that's it. Cliffhanger left hanging forever.

EDIT: I LOVE the Klonoa ending, so can't agree with that.

Killzone 3 -
Sev just nuked an entire planet. Fade to black.

The Force Unleashed 2 -
Ok so the entire story is bullshit but Vader hurls Juno's body off a 200 foot ledge and she dies. Then Starkiller processed to destroy Vader but of course he's not allowed to kill him. Hey look Juno is alive. Game ends.

Homefront -
The game randomly ends with you halfway across the Goldengate bridge in the middle of a battle.

How do you feel about one of the characters being a
lying asshole who messes with Klonoa's mind so he would be forced to help
? My main beef is that the game tries to paint it as something cute and innocent, I don't understand why people have fond memories of that ending.

Not really the ending but near the end that kinda ruined the game for me
YOU ARE ALL VIDEOGAMES WOOOOHOWOWHHOOOO

Starfox Adventures:
It turns out Andross was possessing the main villain all along. Yeah, that didn't come out of nowhere. ¬.¬

Radiata Stories. Whatever end you get, it will be lame and extremely short. I absolutely hated the endings.

EDIT: Also, L.A. Noire.
Why the hell did Phelps have to die?

Wait, what? Beholder was on one floppy?

Say whatever you like about it but Klonoa's ending is far from lame.

Fair enough, the twist is indeed unexpected and memorable. I still fail to understand what everyone loves so much about it.

Shadow of the Colossus
OMG you kill the last collosi and your girl is coming back to life! But what's this? The collosi prevented the rise of an ancient evil! What have I done? Aha! The archetects of old prepared for this and the land bridge that links the land to the rest of the realm is destroyed! You are trapped with the ancient evil! Oh man this is a great ending...

Then some weird shit happens and now you are a devil baby that your girl has to take care of. LAME! SO LAME!

Dude, the ending to Klonoa: Door To Phantomile belongs in the greatest endings of all time thread, not this one. Jeez louise, some people.

Yep, misinterpretation from my part. I don't think it's great but it's not what the thread is asking for.

But that's like, half the story.

Although strictly speaking the second half of Star Ocean 3 doesn't exist.

Woah was it half? I guess I remembered it being near the end because I stopped playing it shortly after this point.

As much as I love the game I have to say NMH2.
Pizza Bat Jr was kind of a big letdown when compared to the Alice Twilight fight.

This thread is about lame endings, not the best.

Prince of Persia.
I know some people liked it, but it made everything done throughout the campaign meaningless. That pissed me off. And it would have been better if they didn't make that ending so obvious, the credits stopped so it basically forced you to get that ending regardless.

Mortal Kombat.
Everyone's dead. lame
