A (tiny) bit more expansion about Intergalactic from the recent Druckmann/Garland interview

Metroid x GotG

Straight up mashup game.

Surprised there isn't a woke-exclusive bullet point in there for the investors. I guess religion being arbitrary will have to do.

Can we talk about how dumb and impossible it would be to have an 80's themed religion survive for over 2000 years and become the dominant religion of some planet? Because this is a real narrative stretch just to add some 80's nostalgia here.
M8 wait till you hear about this dude called Jesus who was crusified and then resurrected and flew up into the sky and turned some water to wine and shit and it survived 2000yrs, don't even start me on this other dude from Arabia...

... Fuck, so the leak seems real

It seems really bad. Bud I trust ND to deliver on the storytelling front.

... But man, it sounds bad. May turn out to be a very polished, very captivating game with a really bad story

Yeah! Totally dumb and impossible to imagine any religion surviving 2000 years or any religion dominating most of the planet. Never happened in our history :)

So, lemme tell you about a Abrahamic Religions

Edit: I should say it's kinda funny to read that statement based off the most popular religion being based on the exploits of a radical hippy.

The leaks are still plausible from this...
The leak doesn’t stray away much from what was revealed in the trailer and the announcement verbiage. Until we see something where she actually leaves the planet and does some bounty hunting, prior to game launch, the leak will remain plausible.

Maybe this post will cost me a ban.

But knowing that Neil Druckmann is a 100% Zionist, his statement just after Tlou Part II was horrific and stupid af.

And, maybe it's a fake leak, but on this topic we can find this :

>The Sempirian religion, founded by “The Heretic Prophet,” stated generations upon generations would suffer until a Messiah arrived to lead Sempirians to their ancestral home, where they would reclaim the land and purge its inhabitants.

I think we are not ready for what he is cooking.

The concept sounds interesting.
Still not very hyped if it's made in the style of all modern Druckmann games. Constantly having to walk around for 40 minutes doing basically nothing as characters talk about religion isn't what I come to videogames for.

I didn't watch the video, but from the summary posted in the OP I didn't interpret it as being a religion that revolves around 80s pop culture. To me it just sounds like the religion the story revolves around is some new prominent fictional religion that in this world appeared in the 80s (and that's when their timeline deviates from ours).

I'd be cool if someone who watched the video could clarify.
Maybe, but it seems dumb to indicate it's 2000s years in the future, but "the timeline diverged in the 80s" to explain aesthetic. That doesn't explain it at all, probably better to not even have an explanation if that's what we get.

Just read those leaks, sounds pretty bad, but I'm not especially interested in the game anyway. No real loss for me I guess.

There is absolutely nothing I want to see less than a bunch of leftist game writers making a game about religion. It will 100% ape Christianity and they'll ham fist the fuck out of it and give us, yet another, "religion bad" bullshit story.

I agreed, it is huge stretch and virtually impossible since the industrial age IMO.

The origin of other religions in the past were only successful because the entire genus of mankind(omniscience) was so small that scepticism was much smaller at large scale, and that even in the populace where some scepticism or all out disbelief would have been present, so much slavery and poverty meant that religions being community pillars of help and centres of opulence allowed people to raise their station by association through worship, facilitating multigenerational religious commitment from followers and their descendants to the extent that any non-belief or scepticism was entirely replaced with belief and devotion - even if originally driven out of survival than belief.

The challenge to the religious doctrines by descendants was less common because of the much slower pace by which mankind's genus grew at the start which kept scepticism small while the rapid spreading of religions to expand congregations with ever more disciples grew large.

I didn't know Alex Garland was involved in Intergalactic. Hype levels just exceeded over 9000!
He's not involved. The two are interviewing each other. And explaining how 28 Days Later was an influence on TLOU, and vice versa for Garlands future work.
I don't care if Dostoievski himself is reborn to write the plot, I'm not playing as that, I refuse

This interview was fantastic.

My god, two of my favorite creators ever talking face to face talking about their inspirations and various projects.

Neil was right on the fucking money when he said Civil War would make an awesome video game. Seriously thats the very first thing I thought of when watching it. We share the same taste. Thats why I fuck with the dude so much. He thinks just like me, lmao.

Sure, but the thing for me is that they could've used the opportunity to distance themselves from the leaks, if they could. They didn't; does that mean they can't? Does that mean they don't need to?

I'm a gen X kid...and I think it's safe to say I'm bored fucking senseless by the 80's nostalgia trope now.

If only they did it right. But they don't. In this case, the 80s vibes don't fit the story Druckmann is going for.

I hope the graphics/artistic direction and gameplay make up for the narrative mess.

This is getting me hopeful that maybe Neil actually took the feedback and will leave the woke stuff outside the game, we can just pray 🙏

Nothing to gain from it. Until preorders begin, all this results in is speculation. No reason to change their narrative to address an anonymous nobody in some corner of the internet. They didn’t even stray from their marketing and reveal the story when TLOU 2 had leaks that actually affected launch sales. This “leak” is a nothing burger that looks like it took the website verbiage and trailer and made the entire narrative around it. Has any reveal in naughty dog history lay out how the game begins (Jordan heads to planet’s moon), builds (Jordan lands/crashes on planet and tries to escape) and ends (Jordan leaves planet by learning its secrets)? It’s classic pre-launch misdirection and not remotely the whole picture.

The leak is pretty unimaginative and couldn’t think much beyond what was already officially revealed. And given the hate boner the internet has for ND, making it sound lame is the way to get them clicks. And if people buy into it, that’s perfect, because that’s what ND would want you to think so they can subvert your expectations during the marketing cycles, previews, reviews or when you finally play the game.

I might be completely wrong about all this as I’m speculating as well and certainly don’t want to come across as a defense force for ND. But the leak seems way too obvious to actually be real.

How can you "diverge from the 80s" 2000 years into the future? It's a dumb premise that would only make sense if history had been frozen for nearly that period.

Huh? Diverge from the 80s means that the history of that universe was the same as ours until a point in the 80s where something happened that changed their path. It doesn't matter how far in the future it is from that point.

Also for whatever reason it seems their culture/aesthetics froze somewhat in the 80s. It's basically like Fallout, where the bombs dropped in the 2070s even thought he culture seems like it was stuck in the 1950s.

Guaranteed this “new” evil religion will have “coincidences” parallel to Christianity but no other “coincidences” to other religious especially anything close to Islam will be found

Earlier in this thread was a quote from Druck saying he wished he had a button he could press to kill Palestinians, so who knows.

Yeah can’t think of any religion Cukman would want to bash that has dominated western culture for 2000 years

Not particularly. I actually have had very little playtime with the whole series, just wasnt my thing.

I planned to revisit to see if anything has changed for me.
Infinite tried to tackle religion/politics in an alternate history as well. I think it did an okay job. I think the narrative was kind of held back by the need to stick to the Bioshock formula.
