Ah so the part where he was having sex with his own sister, who had already been abused by the uncle doesn't give you any clues as to why she shot him, aided by her 11 year old sister?

Story is already sad but man I didn't need to read this detail.
But for a brother to have sex with his sister and lock her up and who knows what else. You have to question if he suffered the same as she did. Who knows what went on in his life as well as his sisters. Yes he abused her, but we don't know if he knew nothing else in his life other then abuse. He may have thought it was ok.

At the time they would have been 7 and 8 years old.
You pretty much can't blame the kids for this - the parents have absolutely failed them.
These kids needed new families & some pretty incredible therapy and they obviously didn't get that.

And the three year old. It bothers me they didn't take the three year old with them. I can't even imagine leaving my 3 year old niece with her dead brother in a house alone.
The only people that deserve to be tried as adults and locked away for a long time are the parents.
The remaining 3 children need help. a LOT of help. Particularly the 11 and 15 year olds. And I'm not sure any society is equipped to give it to them

I agree with what you said about the parents but wouldn't their ages have been closer to 11 and 12 in 2011?
Of course. I'm not saying she's justified at all in killing him and I'm sure he has had a really hard time as well. Just saying that it makes sense for someone who has grown up with that kind of a life to lose her mind in rage like that and lash out at the last person who was cruel to her.
Yeah it makes sense just such a waste of life ( for all the children). The parents and uncle and who ever else envolved need locking up. The police need to also look into why they didn't follow up the past investigation.
Somepeople shouldn't have children. The parents are the ones to blame here. They should be sent to jail the abuse Obviously started with them. They are supposed to protect their children not neglect and abuse them. The girl definitely needs to get professional mental help not sent to an adult prison where she will continue to be abused.

The girl was kept locked in a room for up to 20 days. The parents went away for days at a time, leaving a three year old in the care of teenagers. If the boy learnt any cruelty, it was obviously from his parents.

I suspect she fled with the 11 year old because the 11 year old was her accomplice, while the 3 year old was completely innocent in all of it.
That he is considering charges at all is a god damn travesty. This girl is a victim; I suspect if she had fled, the 11 year old would have been the next victim in line.

Sad story. Don't think the girls should even be tried, they need help and probably lots of it at this point. Get the 3 year old in a good home and the 11 and 15 year old the help they need. Parents should also be tried for being awful human beings.
I wouldn't call it self defense. Going outside, back inside to get the gun and killing her sleeping brother is clearly not the right action to take no matter how horrible he was.
Given the circumstances surrounding this though, jail definitely doesn't seem appropriate and I'm all for a good amount of leniency.
Also completely agreed about the parents.
