I would think she would be not guilty by reason of insanity or something along those lines and sent to some kind of treatment facility. Parents need long prison sentances. This is all kinds of fucked up.

I'm glad our system allows these great people to buy guns legally

Well, the gun helped the girl in this situation. Not that I think guns are good or anything but she used it for self-defense.

I hope she isn't sent to jail. Must have been a nightmare to live under that roof...

I can't blame the girl for killing her brother and I hope the jury agrees with me. She was a prisoner of her own home.

This is a horrible story, especially now that the 3 year-old has seen her brother die.

It's too bad this had to happen, but the brother must've been very abusive, causing her to snap after being locked in her room for so long. Awful parenting, terrible choices and a nightmarish result.

Not particularly surprising, though, given the story. It's hard to blame her.

The brother did not deserve death and I'd say his situation is the most tragic since he wont have a "second chance" because he was murdered. He abused the sister by locking her in a room but it sounds like he was using methods learned from the parents, who had been locking her up for 20 days in a row.

Likewise, I don't blame the 15 or 11 yo. The boy's blood is on the hands of the parents because their gross negligence and abuse cultivated the entire situation and it would be wrong to punish those girls for that. The parents should both spend the rest of their lives in prison. The 3 girls will need extensive counseling and rehabilitation.

Wow, I really don't know what to say about this...This is some depraved shit.

If those girls spend a single day in prison, the justice system has once again failed us.

The parents should be charged with all the crimes.

This is sadly more common a case of incompetent parenting. It should seriously be a crime to be a shitty parent, since it's mostly, if not always, because of terrible parenting, we get traumatized people in our society who end up hurting others, because they were hurt/abused as children.

So shit parents, shit family, shit Police and child protective services. The system fucked up and let her down.

Disgusting.

And "20 days locked up" is what the father had no problem revealing, who knows what else was going on.
I'm against the death penalty. I'm against taking the law into your own hands. But there was probably no reasonable way out for this girl, she was subjected to horrible things, she needs a lot of help, not prison.

They also say the children's mother discovered the siblings having sex in 2011.

Seriously....

The 11 year old probably aided her sister because she knew what was coming to her sooner or later judging by how bad the parents were.

if they can charge perps for murder when cops shoot bystanders, then surely they can charge the parents with murder here and give the children the help they need in proper psychiatric facilities.

Cant this be sorta twisted into legal self defense?
Cant the girl say the boy was going to rape her after he woke up, that's why she had to do what she did?

Damn. I sense this case getting worst as time goes by.

I feel bad for all the children, but the brother is especially tragic. Since he's dead, he can't even say anything for himself or have a chance at rehabilitation. At this point, a large amount of people probably see him as an abusive rapist. Which, I don't know, is kind of pitiful.

It's unlikely. She already removed herself from the home and was not in imminent danger.

I can see why she would be charged but a jury isn't going to convict. She was abused for years in every way. She needs help not jail.

That family is fucked up. And with a gun? Tragedy was going to happen sooner or later unfortunately. I really hope that girl can get the hell out of that house as soon as possible.

Man hope the girls can get out of the situation. Sounds like one of those horror movie backstories where the protagonist discovers horrible secrets about the cheap house that they just bought.

On Wednesday, authorities released police documents and interviews describing the abuse, including that the girl was locked in a room for weeks at a time with only a blanket and a bucket to use the bathroom.

The girls' mother told police they often locked the 15-year-old girl up when she misbehaved. The longest they kept her locked in her room was 20 consecutive days, the father told police. In the girl's room, police found only a blanket and a bucket filled with urine in the closet.

Police documents released Wednesday said the girl's uncle was convicted of molesting her in 2010. They also say the children's mother discovered the siblings having sex in 2011. Authorities and child welfare officials investigated, but no one was charged.
HOLY SHIT

Poor girls. And I can already see this being a Lifetime Original Movie.

She shot him while he was sleeping. How the fuck is that self defense? She also left the 3 year old, who did nothing to her, at the home. The entire family sounds like they had deep issues.

I'm also not going to jump to the assumption that her brother raped her quite yet. The back story on all the crazy shit that's gone down doesn't make a twisted view of sexuality seem out of the question. If the parents were being that frank about how they treated their kids and what happened in the past, AND the brother was already dead, I don't see why they'd cover for him raping her. Also, someone earlier mentioned that asexual advise early on typically causes sexual development issues. Sounds about right to me.

That said, I don't think she deserves prison. She needs some of that therapy and rehabilitation like they do in Norway and such. Heal the person, and guide them. Don't throw them into another kind of hell.

Every time I read something like this my heart just wants to explode. You know this shit is going on around the country, around the world, but there is nothing you can do about it. Abusing innocents is worse than murder. What did these poor kids have to go through to get to this point? What kind of parents go trucking as a couple and leave their 4 kids behind to fend for themselves? This shit is just so sad on so many fronts. We're getting a peak into how monsters are made of innocent children. It sickens me.

You just wish with everything you have in you that you could intervene and save the day somehow, but you never find out it's happening until it's too late. Damn it. Why does this shit have to exist in this world? Haven't we evolved past this yet?

I'm going to assume the parents and brother all abused her, especially if the younger sister kept watch, knowing what her older sis was going to do.

Fucking North Florida. :( I want to GTFO.

Edit: Fuck, the uncle too? And the mom caught them "having sex"? Something makes me feel like it wasn't mutual.

Unless It's for Disney or College.

Yeah something is wrong when the brother thinks it is ok to have sex with his sister when he is either 12 or 13. If the parents and uncle (maybe others) were fine with abusing the girl, I can't see her being the only one they abused. Shame the police didn't look into it more earlier. They could have saved the brothers life and got all the children out of the sick situation they were in.

The only people that deserve to be tried as adults and locked away for a long time are the parents.

The remaining 3 children need help. a LOT of help. Particularly the 11 and 15 year olds. And I'm not sure any society is equipped to give it to them
This.

There's no way the abuse in the article is all of what was done.

For a kid to kill a sibling, things have to be really fucking serious.

The parents were probably horrendous, and the older brother probably did a lot of fucked things.

We need more details but I wouldn't blame the girl. When you're pushed far enough, shit like this happens.

It's just sad. The parents need to be locked up and the girl taken care of.

:lol at the people saying the girl needs to be jailed

edit: depending on what the brother has done, he might want to get locked up too (edit2: brain went. ignore that comment)
