I don't feel sorry for people who commit suicide.

They're taking the selfish way out, and hurting their family and friends in the process.

Sorry, but that's the way I feel.

If you look at it another way:

Wouldn't it be selfish if the family and friends wanted the person to endure severe depression just so they don't have to feel sad?

So if someone you knew/cared about actually were depressed enough to drive themselves to suicide, you wouldn't be sympathetic. Come on dude, have a heart and an open mind.

I might be curious about why they were such an idiot. But that's about it. I just feel there's no excuse for suicide.

How about because your life is so bleak that you see nothing but living the rest of your life in utter, utter torment? Unless you're suffering yourself or know someone that has, you'll never be able to understand the thoughts of someone with depression who's decided that suicide is the only answer.

Nobody ever takes their own life lightly. It's not something anyone does for fun just to fuck their loved ones over.

ComputerNerd said:
Up to you. I don't care either way. You'll be going to hell though.

And it's still taking the easy way out.

Don't spout bullshit you know nothing about. It makes you sound like a retard. You have to proof of that and you never will.

I still don't buy feeling shitty for people that kill themselves (unless you know them personally). Aren't most suicides at their HAPPIEST immediately before they kill themselves because they've finally "figured it out"? In that context, these people get to knock off at their choice, at their time, in the manner they so choose and in so doing say "Fuck you" to everyone that cares about them. Fuck that - I'm not going to feel sad for a second for THEM - their family and friends on the other hand? That's a whole different story.

Ya, but if it WAS him the word "comedian" wouldn't be in the thread title...

Yeah, more like "dumbass who thinks he's funny".

Looks like I touched a nerve.

It's not that you touched a nerve, it's that you try to use that as some form of backing for your argument. You have no idea what happpens when someone dies, and you never will until you die. Saying someone is going to hell for killing themselves is dumb.

wait a minute...I think I heard about this back in June, then it was found to be false. mckmas!

I didn't know it was a rumor. I thought it was real. I would never post news like this if I knew it was false. My bad guys.

Depression isn't something permanent*, and guess what? Your family and friends might be able to help you out of depression!

Suicide on the other hand...

*actual chemical imbalances and severe mental disorders aside.

These are all comedians. I am not saying that other actors in hollywood don't hace issues, but this seems to be a wakeup call for the comedy business in Hollywood
Depression and comedy go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Most comedians are pretty dark people, and have been for many, many years. Belushi and Farley come to mind, but more recent examples are Mitch Hedberg and Richard Jeni.

So we're not allowed to talk about opinions on the boards? I thought that's what they were for?

BTW, "Saying someone is going to hell for killing themselves is dumb." is an opinion. I'm not bashing you for expressing it.

Why do you put that aside?

An opinion that clearly has no proof or an answer for. My opinion was fact, your opinion was a personal belief that was brainwashed into you. Just keep your religious shit to yourself and everyone will be happy.

You'll get slammed for this, you better word that different.

Which is why it's called an opinion. Since when was it the NeoGAF rules that you could only post facts?

BTW, your opinion is not a fact. To you it may be retarded, but to others it isn't.

Also, "My opinion was fact" isn't the smartest thing I've heard today.

WOW! Calm down man. What he said wasn't that bad.

Read back to my first post. Most famous people that suffer from depression are manic depressives who'll swing from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. It's the highs that give them their gift, but the lows have to come after at some point.

Like I say, that Stephen Fry documentary gives you a really, really fascinating insight into how their minds work and would certainly teach a few people in this thread a thing or two.

It's kinda funny. He actually resorted to personal insults.

I'm at work, and I'm trying my best not to laugh at his "My opinion was fact" line.

My opinion is based on reasoning. There's is no proof scientific or otherwise that comes to the conclusion, that if someone kills themselves they are going to hell. You can have a popular belief all you want. The simple fact is, YOU HAVE NO PROOF. That isn't an opinion that is fact. Until you can come up with proof on your shitty argument than try to argue with me.

In no way shape or form should this conversation even still be going on right now. I have derailed this tragic thread enough. I will have no more of your ludicrous crackpot opinions.

I'd venture it's something along the lines that these people have always had imbalances in their lives and grew up using humor to either fix or hide their problems - this turned into a career, but they never got the help they needed. This probably also applies to musicians.

Wow! He's entitled to an opinion no matter how stupid/sensible it sounds. He doesn't have to "proove" anything lol

That sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Yeah true, but the way he worded it sure didn't sound like a opinion. I was just giving him the benefit of the doubt. Now he's just on ignore. I don't like preachy people.

It's fun watching you blow up. Seriously, chill out.

I made a few points before that you're now confusing. I said that what I typed was an opinion. Yes, I said it was opinion. No need for you to argue that point anymore.

My current argument is why can't I post my opinion? That's what you're saying. Since it's not a fact, I shouldn't post it.

I'm taking your stance there against opinions, then wondered why you posted "It makes you sound like a retard". Which is an opinion.

Little hypocritical, no?

You can't hide behind "it's just my opinion" when asked to back something up. That's called a cop-out. It was a stupid argument to begin with, but he's right- you stated it as a fact rather than an opinion. "You'll go to hell". That's not a subjective statement. That he's "taking the easy way out" is.

Well, you have to take a quote like "He's going to hell" as an opinion, since it can't be proven anyway.

So anytime I, or anyone else, states an opinion, we need to add an "IMO"?

Sounds redundant, since nearly every sentence we type is an opinion.

I can turn your argument around on yourself, and add that "It was a stupid argument to begin with" is an opinion. And thus, according to you, you have to state that that is your opinion.

See why that restriction is stupid?

Dang it! Forgot the IMO on that last sentence!

Edit - And it's not like I said "It's a fact that he's going to hell". I never claimed it to be fact.

It's a statement made objectively, though.

I always expect Andy Dick. :(
We all were. We all were.

Now you just sound retarded. When you come into a thread about someone's death, someone who died going through assumably unbearable emotional anguish and say that "he is going to hell", don't be surprised when you get this kind of reaction.

And no shit that sentence was my opinion. You're a sharp one, aren't you.

I didn't think it was possible, but you totally missed my point. You're basically saying that whenever I state an opinion, I need to clarify that it's an opinion. No matter how obvious it is.

I was using your own words against you. Since you stated an opinion, and didn't clarify that it was your opinion.

I didn't know revealing hypocrisy was so hard sometimes.

It's also funny that the one who didn't realize that I was revealing his hypocrisy, called ME an idiot. This world is too funny.

It's like a little kid fighting. "I don't understand what you just said... you're stupid!"

Suicide is sad. If you don't know what's going on in the person's head (and how could you?), you can't judge the person.
Thank you. As someone who grew up with severe depression in a really bad family, I can understand what it's like to feel suicidal. In their minds, it's definitely not selfish. They're trying to get out of some kind of personal hell and sometimes, like me, the people around them are hateful and don't want them in their lives. Thankfully, my life isn't like that anymore.

Ditto.

I don't buy this whole "it's selfish" thing. People die, families grieve for a while and get over it. It's a part of life. Just because someone goes prematurely doesn't suddenly change the game. I believe those driven to suicide are hurting a hell of a lot more than those left behind. And I think it's more selfish to want to keep someone alive in their own personal hell, just because you yourself would miss and grieve them.

Said to myself, shit, did Owen get himself this time? But there weren't enough replies.. so my next guess after clicking was Andy Dick. Oh well.

So... This isn't true?
This would be a great opportunity to resurrect his career if it isn't.

Every time I see children who are struggling through cancer I think about the selfish pieces of shit that waste their lives instead of getting the help they need. Fuck those people.

Sorry for the bump but it hasn't been too long... wanted to reply earlier but forgot about this thread.

Get the help they need? It's not that easy, don't be a moron. There isn't a pill that'll fix you up with a couple of dosages, and no, paying a stranger to talk to about your troubles will not help . It does to some, but not everybody.

And I can't believe some dumbass still came in to post the 'they're going to hell' bullshit. So fucking stupid it makes you wonder how could anybody not be ashamed of such believes and try to 're-interpret' their holy gibberish to something relevant in today's world. Though I guess the 'answers' they get from it fits what their minds are looking for in the first place. Fucking pathetic.
