Thought I'd make a compliation thread of all the records Adele has broken with her album 25 this week.

US:

AN ADELE THANKSGIVING: 3.5M IN SIGHT

Adele’s 25 continues to surge, up 25% from Tuesday. Forecasts now put the megastar’s new set at 3.5 million for her debut week—leaving prior sales records in the dust—and possibly as much as 6m for the season.

The latter benchmark would mean she was more than halfway to the RTD sales on 2011’s 21, which happens to be #5 at iTunes as of this writing (25 remains at #1, of course, as does “Hello” on the singles side).

Will Target alone, with its exclusive deluxe CD edition of the album, move as much as 900k this week? Hold onto your turkeys and stay tuned.

Adele's 25 smashes *NSYNC's record to become the fastest-selling album in the US ever

Adele is carrying on her world domination, with her new album 25 becoming the fastest-selling album in the US 'ever' (meaning since Nielsen began tracking sales in 1991).

In just over three days, the singer has shifted 2.43 million copies, smashing the previous record for first-week sales set by *NSYNC, according to Billboard.

The boyband sold 2.41m copies of No Strings Attached during its first week back in 2000, but she has passed that number with no problem.

US Records Broken:
*Fastest-selling album ever in the US, beating *NSYNC's No Strings Attached previous record of 2.43m in 2000
*Biggest album debut by a female artist in the US, dethroning Britney Spears Oops ... I Did It Again 1.32m record set in 2000
*First album to sell over 3m in opening week, projected to be 3.5m

Adele smashes Oasis' UK chart record as '25' passes 700,000 sales

'25' has sold 737,000 copies so far this week

Adele has broken the record for the UK's fastest selling album of all time.

Prior to the release of '25', the record was held by Oasis with their 1997 album 'Be Here Now'. The Manchester band sold 696,000 copies of their album in its first week on sale. As of this morning, Adele has sold 737,000 copies of her new album.

The Official Charts Company confirmed the numbers and notes that 'Be Here Now' was released on a Thursday so only had three days of sales registering towards its first chart week.

**7 day figures for Oasis is widely believe to be 764k not 813k, Adele is projected to reach around 800k for the full week.

Fastest-selling album ever in the UK, beating Oasis' Be Here Now record set in 1997

UPDATE #9: And the Celine Dion record is in trouble, too.

Sales figures as of Tuesday afternoon put 25 at 216,000 through four days. Think another 14,213 Canadians will pick up the record before Thursday night?

Just for fun, here’s a list of the all-time first-week sales winners in Canada since the Soundscan era began in this country in 1995. (We don’t have any reliable figures before that since all sales were based on estimates and record company boasting.)

Celine Dion – Let’s Talk About Love – 230,000 – November 1997
Backstreet Boys – Millenium – 191,000 – May 1999
Backstreet Boys – Black And Blue – 156,000 – November 2000
Celine Dion – A New Day Has Come – 152,000 – March 2002
Shania Twain – Up! – 150,000 – November 2002

.@Nielsen reports that @adele has now sold a 1st week record 260,000 copies of 25 in Canada in just 5 days

ADELE’S 25 HITS TRIPLE PLATINUM IN AUSTRALIA

The numbers just keep piling up for Adele and her just-released album ’25’.
Her Australian label Remote Control Records has just confirmed that the album has now smashed through the triple platinum barrier down under, meaning the LP has already found itself in more than 210,000 homes across the country.

Australia Record Broken
:
***Can't find much data for Austrlia, I've seen it posted/rumoured the previous record holder is 160k which would comfortably put 25 as the fastest-selling album ever in Australia.

France: 120k Physical copies sold after 6 days

This doesn't include sales from today or any digital sales, expectations are 150k+, the record for an International artist is 166k, Michael Jacksons Thriller

Worldwide
:

Long standing record holder for the most prestigious prize of them all, fastest-selling album Worldwide goes to Japanese artist Hikaru Utada with her 2001 album Distance selling a fraction over 3 million (3,002,720) with 99.99% of sales in Japan.

Adele has so far sold 3m~ in the US, expected to be 3.5m by the end of today. Not only smashing the WW record but also beating Utada's record of most albums sold in a week in a single territory.

Add on the UK 800k~ Canada 300k~ Australia 300k~ Brazil 200k~ France 150k~ And the other 100+ countries the Album has gone #1 in and you're looking at a projected 6m+ WW debut. That doesn't just beat the last WW record, it doubles it.

That's nuts. I thought nobody was buying albums anymore?

I guess she really hits across multiple demographics. I can see 14 year olds buying her album, and I can see people in their 60s buying it as well. That's the difference between her and NSYNC and Oasis and Britney.

I love the fact she just did it so effortlessly

With all that money piling up, maybe now she'll stop harping on about how horrible it is to pay for public welfare systems.

I think the only Adele songs l've heard are Someone Like You and Hello.

Is most of her music pretty much the same style, ie, slow power ballady stuff?

Not overly fussed on 25, it's good but the subject angst generally of her songs passes me by.

21 and 19 between them have got some killer tunes though and overall she seems to have a very good attitude towards work - life balance and exposure. Great sense of humour and voice.

Wonder how many of the 700k figure was inspired by "SHIT I NEED A PRESENT FOR ME MAM AND GIRLFRIEND FOR XMAS M8" conversation

One of those albums people will pick up in 40 years after reading a list of best-selling albums and with a baffled expression go "this thing sold.. what? I listened through and can't remember a single thing".

I disagree. Big voices are always cool.

She sure can sing, how much of the 435 million views her Hello video on youtube will turn into money in her pocket? Not like she needs it :p

Between this post and your name, did you stop listening to music in the 90s?

Congratulations are in order! Absolutely incredible numbers.

Wow, I'm completely out of the loop with what's happening on Sesame Street.

Not much has happened. Kermit has been with Denise (formerly Spamela Hamderson) for a while, and Miss Piggy has been an insufferable ex-lover ever since.

Have to imagine she'll clear a few more units with Black Friday too.

3.5m, then the rest of Black Friday, the Holidays (Xmas week will be mad) she has an NBC concert coming up, then the Grammy's and then Valentines day.

Fastest ever album to 10m in the US?

I can see Taylor shouting and cursing at her team, pointing fingers, amidst a stream of tears, demanding excuses and planning to behead the responsible.

On topic: good for Adele.
That record won't be easily broken any time soon.

I will never understand the appeal. I mean, she seems like a cool enough person but her music is just bland run-of-the-mill piano pop. Is it her voice? (which I personally don't like either) I don't hate her music, but I'm just really curious to know why everybody seems to adore her
