She played everyone like a drug dealer...
Check out my bad ass single Hello!
Oh you want more? Buy the album, no streaming bullshit.
And I agree to that, as posted above, Adele is one of the biggest artists in the history of music. The stats point to it.With Era adjustments put in place, 21 completely eclipses the sales of Celine's 30M albums around the world-- even Canada/France. Without Era adjustments put in place, 21 still did better in most parts of the world.
Or the power of not streaming? I wonder how many other artists are gonna ditch Spotify/iTunes cuz of this.
Adele and T Swift are KILLING IT by not streaming.
Wouldn't be surprised to see other megastars (Beyonce, Kanye, Rihanna) follow suit. Though I guess they're involved with that Tidal shit. lol
Adele and Taylor Swift have a history of selling albums. Performers like Rihanna have always benefited the most from free-to-access portals.
She has a great voice though, nothing as amazing as Amy Winehouse on her best, better than most of the other female singers of her generation. I wouldn't say she is Barbra Streisand tier or anything but she has her good performances more than her bad.

Oh, I don't think she's bad at all. I like listening to her perform, after all. I just find it odd when I see people herald her as a return to real singing. She has a solid voice, with adequate technique (which in fairness I think sounds better than it did a few years ago). She actually has expanded her belting range slightly. I guess the issue I have is that given her acclaim, I'd expect her to be the second coming of Streisand (or Whitney, or Mariah, or Shirley, or something), and not just "better than most." "Better than most" is a low bar these days.
How do you make adjustments?
Eh. Both of Celine's 30m worldwide albums sold in excess of 10 million in the U.S., and 21 is at 11m. It's not that big a difference if we're talking about album sales.
I'm guessing judged on how much the industry has declined and how many records overall the industry sold back then.
This image was published when the projections were around 2.5 Million:How do you make adjustments?
Back in the Rolling in the Deep days I was sure she was going to be just one of those one-hit wonders.
Her music doesn't really interest me, but seeing a huge success like this is pretty cool.
May be we're just due for a music revolution? Urban/hip hop has pretty much dominated for the past 20+ years, no?Congrats to Adele.
Those are some crazy records to break, and she broke them basically all over the world. In an era where full album sales were supposedly dead.
lol
Though, that's also basically how albums were sold in the 90s.
hear & like new single = have to buy the new album to get that song and more songs.
She's bland enough to satisfy most listeners. I don't like her songs though.Back in the Rolling in the Deep days I was sure she was going to be just one of those one-hit wonders.

Considering how well her first album did I'd say your original thought is automatically invalidated.

Only me who doesn't know who this is?

One of those albums people will pick up in 40 years after reading a list of best-selling albums and with a baffled expression go "this thing sold.. what? I listened through and can't remember a single thing".

Disagree.
I think Hello is gonna be a classic.
Only me who doesn't know who this is?

It's non threatening. See Michael Bublé and many other singers.Bland is satisfying?
Just listened to 'Hello' on YouTube as I realised I had not heard it yet (don't listen to the radio much or follow popular music) and was amazed to see that in just a month it has over 500,000,000 views (500 million). That's insane. Soon it'll be up there with the most played songs on YouTube bar Gangnam Style.
this is fucking absurd to see in 2015
I guess that's the power of mom music. My mom, my friends moms... all love Adele. have no fucking clue how to download an mp3 or use spotify or search a youtube. buy a cd at the store? they can do that.
Hmph so what? Utada Hikaru's distance sold 3m on its first week

I should add, in the US around 50% of sales are physical. That's going to end up being around 1.75m~ CD's sold in stores.
Bought and listening to 25 just now!
Hello, as good as always but holy shiiit is Send My Love INSANELY good!! HOPEFULLY IT KEEPS UP THIS TEMPO OF FUCKING INSANITY
Born This Way's sale look really impressive until you remember that Amazon was not only selling the album for $1.99 at launch (it came out right after they launched their MP3 store), but when you bought an album from Amazon it gave you like 20GB of digital locker space. There were probably thousands upon thousands of people who bought that album with no intention of actually listening to it, and I remember Billboard having to change how it counts album sales to prevent anyone else from doing the same thing to break records.
