Q: What is Adventure Time?

A: Adventure Time follows a human boy, Finn, and his magical dog, Jake, on adventures in the mystical world of Ooo. If you have 7 minutes, here is the pilot:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgBquNTf3yE

now imagine that, stratched to 12 minutes and even more jacked up and crazy insane with an amazingly eclectic and hilarious cast of characters. It's pretty much Imagination: The Animated Series and it is completely charming and wonderful.

Q: How can I watch this show?

A: It airs on Cartoon Network on Monday nights at 7:30pm. Older seasons can be purchased online via iTunes, and they're relatively cheap so if you have any interest I implore you to buy them to ensure future releases.

Q: Can't I buy this on DVD?

A: Yes! Along with two "best of" releases, Cartoon Network is FINALLY releasing a full Season 1 box set. This is a huge deal and if you want to continue to see season sets for Adventure Time, you need to put your money where your mouth is and BUY THIS DVD. Cartoon Network is greedy and lazy, and they are content to milk this series with bullshit releases if they think they can get away with it. Prove them wrong and buy this set:

So awesome.

July 10, 2012

Hallefriggenlujah. And it’ll be worth the wait. Here are all the good parts of Cartoon Network’s press release:

What Time Is It?! Full-Season DVD Release Time!

Cartoon Network Announces the DVD Release of Adventure Time: The Complete First Season

Making Your Dreams Come True July 10, Two-Disc Set Contains All 26 Season One Episodes PLUS a Whole Bunch of Bonus Features Created by Pendleton Ward & Show Team

HECK YEAH!!! At long last, the wait is over as Cartoon Network has announced the DVD release of the entire first season of its Emmy®-nominated animated comedy series Adventure Time! Yep, that’s all 26 episodes from the show’s first season, plus heaps of bonus features created by Pendleton Ward and the show team, including featurettes, episode commentaries, animatics and more packed into a sweet DVD package. The Adventure Time: The Complete First Season two-disc set will be available on July 10, 2012 for the suggested retail price of $26.95, making it a must-have for the series’ ravenous fans, who can relive all of the original adventures of best buddies Finn and Jake in the magical land of Ooo.

“Since our first DVD release last September, fans have been telling us nonstop that they want to own full season sets of Adventure Time on DVD. Because the show is for everyone, both kids and adults, we’re really happy we can put this out,” said Erik Resnick, vice president of Cartoon Network Enterprises, the home entertainment division of Cartoon Network. “In addition to the great episodes, Pendleton and the show team have created some great bonus features on this set that we’re sure fans will love.”

The highly-anticipated bonus materials in the Adventure Time: The Complete First Season DVD release include:
behind the scene featurettes of the crew, the composers and more filmed by creator Pendleton Ward with his very own camera phone;
animatics featuring commentary by Ward, Adam Muto, Pat McHale and Derek Drymon for the “Rainy Day Daydream,” “Slumber Party Panic,” “Dungeon” and “The Enchiridion!” episodes;
and episode commentary from cast members and special guests including:
“Prisoners of Love” with John DiMaggio, Jeremy Shada, Tom Kenny and Ward;
“Ricardio the Heart Guy” with George Takei, Hynden Walch, Kenny, Shada and Ward;
“Tree Trunks” with Bettie Ward and Polly Lou Livingston; and
“Trouble in Lumpy Space” with DiMaggio, Shada, Kenny and Ward.

Joining the Adventure Time: The Complete First Season DVD release at retail are the compilation releases, Adventure Time My Two Favorite People and Adventure Time It Came from the Nightosphere, which are both currently available at retail and offer fans a lower-price point option to add to their DVD libraries.

Q: That looks great and all but that's Season 1. What can we expect from Season 4?

A: Romance! Adventure! An episode that the team swore they'd never make, and then decided to make anyway! Here's a list of Season 4 episodes, though they are out of order and according to Frederator, subject to change:

079 Five Short Graybles

080 Dream of Love

081 Web Weirdos

082 Hot to the Touch [Ed: This is actually the Season 4 opener]

083 In Your Footsteps

084 Hug Wolf

085 Return to the Nightosphere

086 Daddy’s Little Monster

087 Goliad

088 Princess Monster Wife

089 Beyond this Earthly Realm

090 Gotcha

091 Princess Cookie

092 Card Quest

093 Sons of Mars

094 Burning Low

095 B-Mo Noire

096 Worm King

097 Who Would Win?

098 Lady & Peebles

099 You Made Me!

100 The Hard Easy

101 Ignition Point

102 Reign of Gunthers

103 Help

104 The Lich

This is my first Official Thread so if I'm missing anything or should add/remove stuff, let me know and I'll work my magic on here.

Also, I'm friends with some of the Adventure Time team (including Pen) so if you guys and gals have any questions about the show I can try and ask for you.

Finally, have a Ham Sandwich:

Awesome, I love Adventure Time. I wish Season 1 was coming out on Blu-Ray though.

What is the episode they swore they'd never make?

What is the episode they swore they'd never make?

I don't know the whole plot, I just know it was an idea they had where they said, "Hey, let's never, ever actually make this episode." and then for whatever reason during season 4 they said "Hey remember that episode we said we'd never make? Let's make it!" I've seen some storyboards from it and heard bits and pieces about gags that had to be retooled, and it sounds hilarious but also SUPER out-there. I don't know if it's a LSP-centric episode or if she's just in the parts I saw, but it'll be interesting to see what made it through the censors by the time it airs.

Also, here's the art for tonight's episode:

I don't know if I'll add things like this to the OP but I'll definitely post them as new episodes are announced.

Just watched for the first time a few days ago and I'm definitely a fan. I'll be DVRing the series to catch as many as I can.

Gosh... the two main characters are so good. Recognized Bender's voice right away. I'll watch the pilot after I get off work, and gotta run around for a bit so gotta DVR tonight's season premiere.

Just saw a photo of Pendleton Ward today. Ha. Seems like an out there dude.

Is it not on iTunes? if not there are unsavory ways to fill your need (Especially if you want it in HD since there is no current way to watch it in that format legally).

Season 1 is (and now apparently season 2 is as well). I've seen both and most of season 3 via other means, I just wish it was easier to watch the current episodes

Indeed, I'd love it if Cartoon Network or Frederator offered DDL for the show. There's no physical production costs and adult viewers can buy an episode or whole seasons in HD. I'd slay a field of pixies for something like that.

If I had won that Megamillions Jackpot I would fund an Adventure Time/Elder Scrolls hybrid that Pendleton Ward said he's make if given an infinite budget.

C'mon grab your friends! We're going to very distant lands!

I turn 40 in July, by the way. And a good portion of my friends the same age -- one is an assistant DA, one is a tenured professor, etc. -- love the show as much as I do. It really has broad appeal.

Personally I hope season 4 doesn't have any of those goopy, awkward Fiona & Cake type episodes again. Surreal comedy and adventure, please, with a little romantic tension. A little.

Just watched it, good stuff. I like that the show made fun of Finn at the end for being pretty weepy and lovelorn lately. But that's kinda typical of a 14(?) year old kid. Lots of good one-liners, definitely gonna give it a re-watch this week.

I'm on my phone so I can't quote properly but:

Another Fionna episode? Yes, but not this season. Pretty sure Pen's confirmed they're doing another one in a few interviews, they had to cut a big part out of the first one involving Marshall Lee, so he's the focus of the next one.

Blu-Ray: I'm gonna go with "never" :( I wish they'd even release them on iTunes in HD but again, Cartoon Network is just ugh.

Hug Wolf (no idea!), more Nightosphere, and The Lich? Excellent. Maybe my favorite thing currently on TV.

No Blu-ray, kind of a bummer, but I'll pick up that DVD set all the same.

The AV Club put up a review of the premier!

The comment section is fairly big so far, hopefully they see that and make it a weekly thing. Definitely spread the link around, jump in and comment, etc. AV Club reviews and their (unusually good) comment sections have become a full-fledged part of my TV experience so I'd love to see Adventure Time get the same treatment.

Edit: It'd be worth noting in the "how can you watch" section in the first post that you can watch the last handful of episodes on cartoonnetwork.com if you have cable or satellite or whatever service.

what's the deal with the voice actors for Finn? The pilot had one brother, and now the show uses his younger brother.

anything interesting there? or just a talented family of voice actors?

Didnt't the older guys voice break making him sound too old? Or am I thinking of another show?

Also I have no idea yet what it's about, beside the bleeding obvious, but "Reign of Gunthers" sounds like the best episode ever.

Zack Shada is nearing 20 years now he probably got too old. I guess it was convient to choose his little brother so Finn's voice wouldn't change too much.
