I kinda stopped watching after Episode 3 or 4, has anything cool happened after that? Major story stuff, Marvel Universe guest stars, something like that?

These posts just read like "I want this to be more serial than procedural."

Considering the source material, this show should be more serialized than procedural.

Loeb has focus-tested the show to hell because - surprise! - he's a hack more concerned with numbers than writing quality.

If each episode was a paper lantern, I just want to see the string that is holding them all together.

That string doesn't have to be a major part of every episode, but it should still be present in some way or another.

What this show is currently are the floating lanterns. All individual, in the same pool, but no connection otherwise.

Most of the episodes just need to feel connected, like we are heading toward something instead of floating aimlessly somewhere in the MCU pool.
They can keep the procedural format, just add some serialized elements to add to the week to week to help push investment in the show.

But Fringe really got good once they pulled back the curtain on the Earth A/Earth B setup - S2/S3 were much better. It provided something tangible lurking in the background.

I'm going to be one of the few that think this, but Fringe was always good. The characters played well off of one another from the outset. It hadn't hit its stride in the first season, but you could see the potential there.

AoS has that same potential, but without that immediate character chemistry of Fringe.

No. They just keep namedropping "the battle of New York" and/or the names of the Avengers, and keep reminding us that Coulson was brought back to life through ??? mysterious ways, basically what they did in the episodes you have already watched minus Fury's cameo.

So I watch the first episode when it premiered thought it was terrible, how is the rest of the show?

Average to poor: maybe the worst first season of a show under the Whedon brand. (I know, he's barely involved.) Firefly and Angel's start blow it out of the water. Buffy's opening was weak but the season had a tangible overarching plot and its playfulness was intelligent and grounded. And I never got more than several episodes into Dollhouse but even that had better structure.

To be fair, it could just be the point of view the writers have to work with. A (barely) international squad of 'Men in Black' covering up signs of, and dealing with the effects of, alien existence could be exciting but it seems like they've been hamstrung to colour within some incredibly tangential lines of the Marvel Universe.

It seems to be getting better with every episode, but the curve isn't nearly as fast as it could be. It's still nowhere near great. Maybe we're at close to passable now. Hopefully we're at 'good' by the end of this season. The last three episodes, while decent, spun wheels a little big despite all showing continued improvement.

Info on the December 10th episode:
“The Bridge” – In a shocking cliffhanger episode, Coulson takes the war back to Centipede, and this time he brings in Mike Peterson (J. August Richards) for some super-soldier support. As they get closer to the truth, startling secrets are revealed and an unexpected twist threatens the team, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET)

I don't think it's getting better at all. They had some less sucky episodes, but stuff like last weeks ep was dreadful. Its been so up and down, yet it can't get past mediocre.

I've been following along, and while it wasn't great, I was happy enough to keep watching.

Getting completely walked over in terms of interest against Almost Human, though, for which procedural I'd prefer to follow if I'm short on time. This is depressing, as SHIELD is 9 episodes in against AH's 3.

I'll keep watching--hopefully the episode on the 10th will kick things up.

Literally nothing happened after a decent start. They need to retool the show hard because the saturday serial elements are killing it.

Oh, that doesn't sound good. It's odd how much this show is struggling given how diverse and expansive the Marvel lore is.

If you're talking about tonights episode, the whole thing was character development. More personality and interpersonal relationship details. Wasn't bad at all imo.

Next weeks ep looks great.

Thanks I'll give it a try once I don't have anything on my plate and hungry to watch anything,so far it's way to corny in a bad way it feels like it's afraid to embrace it's ties to the marvel universe so far it's sounds like silly corny whedon rag tag team having a series of bad jokes.

This episode really dealt with Christianity in a weird way. As a Christian, I cocked my head more than a few times.

Still, I enjoyed it and I'm wondering if they're going to follow up on the whole portal through dimensions thing. As in, what world that was exactly.

Also, is this the first episode without an Avengers reference? Baby steps.

Haha, same here. But whatever.

Enjoyed the ep. Starting to get some richer character development. Only person I find truly bland is ward, but even he's getting a bit of charm now.

Oh, and +1 for connecting a pilot character, haha.

Lol yup. May calling him out on being late while he's confused with his "bbbb but, we sexed each other!" face was pretty funny.
