Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashes after takeoff to London Gatwick

At this point I'd be afraid to fly in a Boeing. There's been so many incidents and crashes involving their planes and it feels like they have an infinite amount of free passes.

That was a huge fireball. I hope as many as possible people survived.
This is supposedly one of the most advanced planes Boeing has. And Air India, for all other faults, have an excellent air safety record. Have flown from both Air India and this airport multiple times. Scary.

So sad and that looks to be a heavy impact and in a built up area

Sending thoughts to all involved and their families ❤️

Another Boeing plane though and no visible attempt to deviate, or indicators of power for the plane to try to circle back to the runway

It just looks from that video. That it fell out of the sky.

So soon after take off as well

RIP to the victims. Hopefully we will get all the reasons for this tragedy and that for once no one blame the pilots before we get all the facts. And that Boeing is not responsible for this.

Horrible to see. At first you weirdly have some sort of hope it won't be as bad, but then comes the fireball and you know enough. Sad day.

A sudden crash like that after takeoff is probably dual engine failure. Either something catastrophic happened on board, or they could have hit a large flock of birds that totally took out both engines.

Itlanded on a doctors dormitory, hopefully they were all out working.
They were just eating, from what I read. The reddit board of the town is going crazy. Apparently 20 confirmed victims, could be more, alone from the students.
Some gruesome pictures as well X(

Horrible. RIP to the victims.

Aviation regulation needs an overhaul.

At the very least if the cost of s many human lives can be demonstrably linked to corporate cost cutting measures (across both airlines AND manufacturers), then the fines levied should be equal to double the target cost efficiency as a percentage of revenue set by the company for two consecutive years.

E.g., if a company tries to cut corners on safety & maintenance to shave off 10% of their bottom line costs, they would risk incurring fines on a failure resulting in casualties of up to 20% annual revenue for the next two years.

Yeah, I saw a video of a decapitated head in the streets and everyone was almost crawling over eachother to take a picture...

Holy shit - that is bad.

This is precisely why I will never leave my country (despite being such a major shithole).
Air travel is significantly safer than walking up and down a flight of stairs and taking a shower.

To have a 100% chance of being involved in a fatal accident, a person would need to fly every single day for 43,000 years.

Quite literally, being on a plane in the sky is one of the safest places to be in the world.

RIP to all victims. Meanwhile Airbus be like:

Yeah this was awful. Everything about it. I wonder how many people got hit on the ground too.

It still weirds me out that quite a few airports and smack bang in the middle of residential areas.

I used to take the lad up Myrtle avenue, a housing estate right on the edge of Heathrow Airport to watch the planes come in, seeing an A380 come down just over rooftops is pretty eye opening

It's always only a matter of time.

Taking out both engines sounds like birds to me. Especially because the pilot didn't abort before reaching the point where you cannot abort, which is after full thrust has been applied but before reaching a critical speed.

Some pretty horrific videos going around online of the wreck.

It's an absolute miracle that someone survived all that.

I hope the crash site isn't looted by the local population, hindering an investigation into the cause of the crash. Considering the video of people swarming a decapitated head to film it, I'd be really worried about that.

Happened in a residential area as well, so I can imagine it'd be really tempting for people to start stealing things...

RIP to the victims.

Just going off that short video, it doesn't even look like the plane did major turns or dives or anything. It just glided down like it was landing(?)

Jesus, imagine just walking out of that..

Seriously, that's some insane luck for him (minus the trauma and if he lost any loved ones on the flight of course, hope he can recover physically and mentally as best he can). If he didn't have visible injuries, we'd have a "Bruce Willis in Unbreakable" situation here.

The survivor.

Probably not the right time for this, but this seems extremely suspicious.

Did you see the size of that fireball? Any human being within 100m of the crash site is going to be instantly burnt to death. He has no burn indications whatsoever.

Maybe he was ejected from the plane immediately before impact and miraculously survived the drop, but then you have to ask how the hell a human body can survive anything close to that. The 787 takes off at 300km/h. Even if it lost some speed gliding, it's still moving at ~200km/h right before impact.

I'm glad I wasn't alone in having this as my first thought.. I just hope L Jackson wasn't in the mix 👀

From the sound of it though he was just walking off, so I'm wondering if he was alone. If anyone was with family they'd probably be going crazy, I know I would

Unless he took a serious head trauma..

Just crazy all round! That's seriously got to give you some PTSD.

But then you do have a point. Those tanks would have been nigh on full, the cabin would have been utterly rinsed internally by fire, even if it was a flash. Plus the shockwave on a human frame wouldn't have been great..

..Unless he really is the most lucky bloke on earth.
