PS5 doesn't run medium settings. PS5 in quality mode runs SSR, SDF reflection and post processing on low for example.
also 4K DLSS quality is native 1440p, while PS5 Pro renders at 1224p, which is actually lower than even DLSS balanced (1253p)

You make a good point particularly with the post processing preset but I'm not convinced that negates the performance effects of RT reflections even at low settings.

if you look at the video, the "medium" preset doesn't run everything on medium. it seems like many settings in that medium preset run higher than PS5 in quality mode.

ps5 in quality mode runs shadow resolution and shadow distance at medium for example. 2 very demanding settings. the medium preset in the video shows that these are set to high in that preset

edit: looking at the video, the "medium" preset runs many settings at high that the PS5 also runs at medium, like Shadow detail and shadow resolution

the biggest issue here is the refusal from developers to give PC players these reduced settings that they give people on console.

the same happened in many raytracing supporting games on console. the console versions get an optimised version, the PC doesn't. pretty sure that Control on console already had a checkerboarded RT reflections setting that isn't available on PC. same with Watch Dogs Legion.

giving PC players a lower quality option would make it possible for lower end GPUs to use RT. especially AMD GPUs would profit from this, but also low end RTX cards like the mid and low range 2000 series cards.

it seems the listed settings from your post do not match the medium preset as seen in the linked video I quoted.

in that linked video shadow detail is set to high for example. in digital foundry's list they say medium preset has them on medium. so, that's odd for sure.

I just checked on my game, doesn't even show low post processing quality for me. Weird.

Not saying you're wrong, but I've been struggling to find under-4080 GPU running 4k output with any RT features on for surface level comparisons.
Here is a 4070 doing 4K DLSS performance at just about 30fps. Note it is using both higher settings vs the Pro and is also using medium RT, which enables path tracing and as such murdered performance. Conversely it also is a lower internal resolution. Switching DLSS to balanced, using Pro settings, and dropping RT to low should certainly offer a locked 30. Probably a bit over it as well.

Surely they could've opted for a different reflections solution specifically for the mirrors in the game....

The raytraced lighting looks great in their examples but these mirror reflections are hardly an improvement from the base game in any mode. Why not just cheat all the mirrors in the game or use some SSR solution? Weird.

It would be nice if the PS5 (Pro) discourse on this forum would be more positive.

I'm excited to play this!

But it is absolutely positive, the system is clearly delivering what was supposed to deliver, PSRR is a game changer for image quality on consoles and the new RDNA4 ray tracing engine is allowing ray tracing effects that simply weren't possible on consoles before even at 30fps. PS5 Pro is poised to deliver bigger perceptual gains than what PS4 Pro provided without changing TV.

You should have fun reading the comments of those who are clearly bothered by the value it is providing and need to compare it with systems that cost 2x-3x the price to feel solace for their insecurity :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It does, although we can't be 100% sure of the extent to which capture methods/alterations played a role since, even as .png, Pro image is a watermarked one from the article whereas the PC one a raw capture from Alex, and both sources have been digitally manipulated to substantially increase exposure. Could be absolutely zero impact whatsoever, but you never know.

Alan Wake 2 is still using DLSS 3.5. Preset E on 3.7 usually looks better. No idea on Alan Wake 2, I haven’t tried it again with 3.7.

We don't know which one of those is more "correct" - how those trees would look like without Ai involved and with native 4k resolution. Both PSSR and DLSS are "guessing" many things.

Funny thing is that AW2 don't even offer TAA native image, only options are FSR Native (BAD!) or DLAA.

Guessing or not, trees and branches shouldn't have invisible portions.

Just ray traced reflections, and with reduced BVH.
Game does feature real-time GI however, as easily noticeable by the red bounce on this woman's shirt:

I forgot just how glorious this game looked and I might wager that there is still no game with geometry quite like it. Say what y'all want about this gen not being a clear step over the last, but to me, Wake 2 proves that is total nonsense!

Current generation, to me, is whatever you can play from said generation. PC versions of the best looking games have always blown away their console counterparts and very much why its biggest fans argue that it should never be ignored when talking about generations.

Besides, we have stuff like Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank, Silent Hill 2 (yes, even on PS5), and Spider-Man 2 that are clear steps ahead of similar games from last generation and don't require a monster rig.

I played this game with RT off and it still looked excellent. the level of detail and lighting is the same across all versions. ps5's quality mode is mostly using high settings.

On PC, PT makes the biggest difference in reflections which is what they are porting to the Pro.

Cerny said that in terms of base PS5. PS5 Pro, as he said, is meant to give quality mode fidelity at performance mode frame rates. That is what Remedy is saying here with the Pro performance mode:

  • 60fps
  • Using approximately the same render (image quality) settings as the base PS5 Quality mode.
Pro quality mode adds ray tracing which wasn't available in base PS5.

This game is giving you PS5 Fidelity at Performance framerate on PS5 Pro.

You really don't see the comedy in claiming Cerny is "full of shit" because Remedy decided to also take additional advantage of the Pro by giving you another option on top?

Guess Remedy deciding to put exactly half the effort in this Pro support would have saved Cerny's reputation..

You can't be this ridiculous, can you? The Pro performance mode is base PS5 quality mode at 60fps, and potentially better depending on how 864p PSSR upscale compares to 1270p FSR upscale. In other words, they delivered exactly what Sony set out to do with the Pro.

Now you are essentially complaining about the developers providing more player options with a Pro-specific fidelity mode. So if they didn't offer the new fidelity mode you wouldn't be whining? You guys are exhausting.

I was curious so I go and looking for the same scence in the devil ballroom footage see below to it compare to other version.


PS5 version. One of the worst image quality ever on the ps5. Up there with outlaw. I think it is even worst. Look at all the blurriness and dithering. Why this mode past QA?


The pro version. From this brief footage, it has less dithering and It is still blurry. still need to see more but this is not encouraging.


The PC version. Look like 4k dlss quality or close. The difference of having clarity and stability in this game is staggering. I think this game is designed on the high end pc then scale down and port to consoles.

again, look at the ps5 version. The issue here is not graphic. It is clarity and stability issue on consoles. Like I said. What is the point of higher top notch graphic if your game IQ look like that on the ps5 performance mode?

Best to just ignore them at this point. As you suggest, whatever modes or performance the Pro put in on a game, they'll find something to complain about for the sake of it.

But of course, they claim to not even be interested in the console. Yeah, right.

Having a “pro” console just output the same graphics as base ps5 quality modes just at higher frames would be a waste of everybody’s time.

put that extra power to use, like what remedy is doing here.
 
Forget about the pictures and what's better then what. People should be happy with what there getting with ps5 pro a great miniture pc experience with ai pssr and should looking forward to ps6 while enjoying the experience on what ps5 pro has to offer

I get what you’re saying but to me it would be a massive waste if all the pro did was merge performance and quality. Raising the floor so much and the ceiling? Yes please.

Honestly it seems like there’s less tension or overt compromises to play at 60FPS now, and I’m cool with that.
