I am not even sure that Starfield will be nominated for GOTY at this point. I thought it would be a bone thrown to Microsoft by various outlets (even with having zero change of winning the title at the end), but the critical reception of this game is lagging so far behind all the other awesomes hits that we got this year that it does not deserve any place in the competition imho.
Alright, got it preloading on PS5, another monster file at just under 81gb. This weekend will be Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, Killers of the Flower Moon and fucking my wife, good times
Oliver never said a word about whatever the fuck is going on with the water on the ps5 side of that comparison, then the shimmering looked at later is a shit show. Then he makes all PT comparisons seemingly during the day with only the sun light source and concludes PT isn't making much of a different. /golfclap
Metroid Prime is at 94, but these two are remakes/remaster, no way they ll be nominated to GOTY ( imo ) with this many new games that we got this year.
Issue is that history is not on his side. Outside of Forza (and even this has now faltered), what was the last Xbox-only (Xbox/PC) game that lit up the critical charts? What was the last Xbox game that fulfilled its pre-release promises? If 2023 is anything to go by, odds are not in their favor.
Pre ordered after seeing some of the RTX stuff. Figured it was an excuse to oogle at good graphics and was hoping for high-80s. Good to see it's got a 92 on PC.

I predicted above a 90. After Control I knew Remedy had hit their stride. There’s clearly some magic sauce finally envisioned and it started with quantum break.
QB they finally figured out fun combat and some well done story telling. Its major downfall IMO is the watch 20+ minute videos shit.
Control elevated the idea of this formula, tied their universe together, and provided players sweet sweet fun.
This I was worried would regress in interesting combat since AW1 combat is diarrhea.
I’m gone for work and flying back home tomorrow to get this on GeForce now ultimate bangers edition.
Some terrible human being with no regard for the gods of gaming at Remedy just knocked it down to a 90 at OpenCritic. Shame. This game is an easy 10 and that's from someone who has even yet to play it!
As someone who had the first one on the top of his totem pole after finishing it
"It's not a lake, it's an ocean!"
, I thoroughly enjoyed and still vividly remember when I played it on the 14th of May 2010 while everyone else was playing RDR so to speak. I loved the small town setting of Bright Falls so much, Stephen King atmosphere and story. I chose to play it when it was dark outside with the volume of my HT turned up. Such a special experience. A chapter every day to digest it properly. Remedy put so much thought in details. The sounds when out in the woods...gave me shivers at times so well done. The game was really ahead of it's time, it was so ambitious and what Remedy accomplished on the Xbox360 back then was remarkable.
Last year I played through the remake and to me the game didn't feel outdated, it's still a masterpiece in my mind.
Seeing the high praise the sequel receives now is almost unbelievable and to good to be true in a way. As I said earlier I pre-ordered the game (the Deluxe edition on XSX to be exact) and was waiting for over a decade on the sequel, been waiting for so long a day longer wouldn't be a problem right? I'm so hyped right now I probably can't even go to sleep tonight.
Wow, a 90 metacritic? Not that I care as it was already GOTY for me without playing it, but I’m so glad that Remedy gets the deserved success. I hope it will realize in sales too.

Sales will be tough for this one with no physical or Steam release. I think it'll have pretty decent legs, though, because it looks like a good game and will have DLC.
2023 has been a great year.
Having the opportunity to play games like FFXVI, Baldur's Gate 3, Spiderman 2 and now Alan Wake 2, in succession, doesn't happen every year.
Glad to see it's overdelivered, I expected like a 78 lol. It's just kind of strange though that they made this banger and are releasing it in this obtuse way. Digital only, no Steam = wait for a heavy sale on console
