Alanah Pearce Won't Stream The Last of Us 2 Due To Harassment

She doesn't seem to have a problem defending herself ....

This is exactly the best way to deal with such things.
If these are kids then get their parents to, you know, do some parenting.

It would be FAR more worrying if it was someone in her family or social circle or neighborhood, right?

The context of who exactly is posting this kind of thing is 100% relevant.

It feels more like she is sharing these messages to make some larger point but the problem with that is the messages are not attached to actual people so it's not clear if the point is valid or not.

It's like the difference between the US President tweeting "we are going to invade Canada and seize land that should belong to the USA" and some 12 year old kid saying "why doesn't the US just invade Canada and take their land." One carries some weight and the other carries none. The problem here is that we don't know which it is.

I feel kinda sorry for people who thought posting a video of Alanah Pearce pontificating over reviews would mean something, like she's an authority in the field and it would be the end of the argument.
Ask Nathan Grayson next.

It happens every time the journalists are called out for being full of shit.
This is what happens when you foster an environment made of nothing but empty hype circlejerk and journalists are glorified marketers.
Look no bloody further than the Debbie Downers thread.

If review bombing is a thing it's precisely because journalism can no longer be trusted.

For those who accuse her to faking it and that she send herself these DM.
Just prove it, expose her if true or shut up with your conspiracy theory .
Seriously what's wrong with people who need to stain everything they don't like?
(A game, a movie or someone with different opinion)

Harassing people over opinions is a shit thing.

And regarding her 10/10 score video, I tend to disagree about it. I remember that Gamespot was filled with Kane and Lynch ads and when Jeff Gerstmann gave it a 6/10 he was fired weeks later and everybody suspected it was over it, it wasn't until 2012 that he could admit it was because of that, and that there were another cases including one where his subordinate gave a 7.5/10 to Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction.

Anyone listen to Alanah Pearce's podcast with Troy Baker (and two other industry professionals)?

Either my soul is black and I was built to hate (please no) or Troy Baker and Alanah Pearce talking to eachother is this sketch...

Unless this person has a history of making shit up for attention, those of you accusing her of fabricating this because it lines up with your preconceived notions are peak "feelings over facts".

Yes, trolls exist as a fact of the internet. Some people power through and don't give a fuck; most people curate their experience to some degree. While the occasional troll might not seem like such a burden to you, random message board poster, that's because you're imagining it from the perspective of a nobody. Try imagining it from the perspective of a semi-famous internet personality who gets hundreds of positive and negative messages both praising and attacking you for mostly arbitrary reasons. It can get tedious. Especially the negative ones.

I wonder how many of the users shitting on her for this have ever used the ignore function or any other kind of moderation tool on the internet. Or perhaps in real life chose to avoid a particular conversation or meeting with certain individuals because you know it would only lead to ruin and shit talk. If you're a normal human being, that's basically all of you.

Sure, I'll get right on stealing her laptop 🙄

It's all fun and trolling, but no one really wants to deal with dumb shits who wish you'd get raped, beaten, tortured, etc. I mean she could ignore it, she could have thicker skin, but she doesn't, not everyone can.

I mean, she could really be a victim of some horrible shit that no one knows about in her past, or she could be a sensitive snowflake, or just annoyed streamer tired of bullshit.

Also before "why you white knightin' brah" I'm not, I just know words can hurt sometimes.

You must be new here, this place is called "the internet", everyone is a cunt here. By internet standards that's baby shit.

To be fair, there aren't many things that are worse to impose upon a human than rape or death. If that's baby shit, I struggle to see what kind of russian shit a serious threat would ensue.

Death...by rape...
Joking aside it's baby shit because it's just meaningless drivel, white noise in the background. You don't need worry about a thing until some weirdo from the internet shows up on your doorstep (which does happen, but only very rarely). Death and rape threats are bandied about online so freely that they're rendered trivial.

It's still easy to understand why she chose not to stream this game if that's the kind of treatment she got.

Saying she deserves to be raped and killed is just "a couple mean sentences"?

And these type of people want to be heard when they say their problem is not how the character is or who she/he is, its about the story not making sense. Yeah right.

People can't help themselves.

The fact of the matter is that even if the messages are real nobody knows:
A - Who sent them.
B - Why they were sent.
C - The mental state of the persons who sent them.

So all this bullshit about "imagine being so mad about a videogame" or "imagine being such an incel" is exactly as you say. Virtue signalling.

If I'm playing an online game and some little twat says "I'm going to kill you and your whole family" I don't really think much of it.
Why? Because I don't know who that is, where they live or why they are saying it.
For some it's considered a "death threat" and so is the most forbidden of forbidden online actions.
It ain't a fucking Death Threat though and pretending like that's true is so fucking disingenous.

Now, if your fucking neighbor confronts you in the street and says "I'm going to kill you and your whole family" then NOW you're looking at a genuine and fucking serious problem.

This shit is tiresome. Yes whoever sent this too her is in need to a stern talking to. That's it.
We literally don't know anything else.

So all these morons wanking themselves off thinking about "angry nerds" and whatnot are doing so for their own gratification.
For all anyone knows this was some idiot kid trying to offend her because they think that's amusing.

You'd have to a be real dumb cunt to believe that someone who is literally enraged about the TLOU2 is a legitimate threat to her safety and/or wellbeing.

She's posting this stuff for the attention, plain and simple, and the "imagine being so angry about a woman online" crew don't seem to realize they are being played like a fiddle here.

Look, no offense but I'm tired of "mental state" almost being used as a sword to defend people of their shitty behavior. The truth is there are PLENTY of people with similar mental conditions who don't send a message hoping a journalist gets raped for seemingly liking a game they hate over political reasons.

At some point, even with a person having potential mental problems, personal responsibility HAS to be held to them, otherwise you lose any standard for pursuing justice. You can look at virtually any criminal ever and figure there is some mental problem they've had which contributed to their criminal deeds...it doesn't mean you let them walk.

Now what's the proper justice for the people who send some of the most vile responses to her? Is it to cancel them? No, not really. But for some of these people a stern talking to isn't going to work, either, especially if they're adults. Who's going to talk to them, someone over the internet? That won't have any effect. Someone in their personal life? Well guess what, now you gotta tell that person (if you can even do that) what this other person did and somehow think they'd care. A professional psychiatrist? I mean if we're acknowledging the person might have mental health issues that's probably the best bet, but a psychiatrist isn't going to talk to that person for free, are you gonna front the bill?

So "stern talking to" doesn't really mean anything in terms of an appropriate measure of justice here. Seeing how nowadays it's too easy to get personal information on people (especially those you might hate) and get the law irresponsibly involved (in the form of swatting), etc., unfortunately I think there might be grounds in the future for reform across the board by these social media platforms regards how they hold users accountable for the content they post. I value free speech absolutely, but unfortunately abuse of that online in terns of negative conduct combined with anonymity and (therefore) lack of serious legal repercussions for troubling speech in a public space,

Think of it this way: if some nut is in public at a restaurant and they suddenly shout out they're gonna beat the shit out of a fucking cunt and hope she gets raped, loud enough so other people in the restaurant could hear....what do you think the response in that situation would be? We can pretend everyone else would be on their smartphones and plugging their ears to not hear, but the cashier and cooks would still hear it and likely confront the person shouting, causing the disturbance, and very likely get police involved, too, if not at the very least try keeping the victim away from the assaulter.

So why do we pretend it's supposed to be different online, when someone sending a message like that on a public platform like Twitter is essentially the equivalent of an idiot shouting hateful language in a public venue like a restaurant? Especially if the person who posts those kind of comments continuously does it (you can't necessarily prove they don't unless you know their post history, but they could also have done so under different accounts)? You think a "stern talking to" is going to do much of anything in that case? There's a reason these websites have TOS and code of conduct policies in the first place; even online some type of law and order in a public forum has to be maintained, even if it's not standardized across all public forums exactly.

Realize that my comments are only about public forums/spaces; if it's a private forum or server, especially one wherein members pay to get into and know off the bat what they're getting into...then I feel those should be treated differently. They're basically the equivalent of someone engaging in the privacy of their own home. If there's a problem with harassment in that space, then the onus is on the victim to turn to an outside source which, for something like Discord say, would be the management staff. It's their service, so whether you like it or not they have final say over what is and isn't tolerated. BUT, I feel they should respect the privacy of users in their own private servers and only take action when those seemingly going under some type of abuse on those forums (or notices potentially TOS-violating action occurring) reports it to the staff. If it turns out to be literally illegal activity, that's when the actual law can get involved.

Our first white knight. Didn't take long.

Sending herself some mean messages so she can get victimhood points, stir up some drama to possibly grow her channel is a shitty thing to do.

Do you have proof or is this just a conspiracy theory your asshole farted out? Because it sure does stink of bullshit.

"Guilty until proven innocent". That's what this is. That's what you're doing here. Keep that in mind.

She also has videos on why she won't date (needs simps). She is playing the victim and loves the attention.

Shen changed the title to sekiro from why I don't date. Proof in the link and then click it on YouTube.

"we just broke up! (cue simps in action)

She's also cool with reading mean tweets but this went too far!

Look at my body and my image simps!

Love's to show her DMs for attention

My point is that good on her for making money, but don't act like you don't want to be a victim and get a certain demographic to pay your bills.

I don't know if this a troll attempt or genuine.

Two principles can be correct at the same time.

a) Anyone sending a threat like that is a cunt (also, probably 13)
b) She is an attention seeking clown who gets her tits out on Cosplay, uploads photos of her mons pubis and loves the drama.

Also, a third point:

c) She's hot.

An absolute galaxy brain, but clever enough to manipulate fools for a living. I can respect the hustle. Better that than resorting to prostitution or whatever. Now where's my bigot sandwich?

I should spoiler this shit, just in case.

Yikes. You can tell she's being careful to not get blacklisted. She mentions Mass Effect Andromeda which was hated by everyone as a safe video game critique to give her the benefit out the doubt.

🤡

Yep.

I've got a healthy amount of time for ladies like this. She's hot, probably highly crazy (crying for random reasons every other three days) but making good money by confusing dweebs.

Good luck to her.

I love how everyone attacking her or other streamers when they decide to not deal with mob mentality that they're the assholes. Imagine if dozens of people everyday at your job decided to start what was essentially harassment and vitriol aimed in your direction relentlessly without recourse. Don't you think at some point even you'd go "nah I'm calling in sick." it sounds like that's what she's doing.

You're acting like being a streamer is a normal "job."

She gave our her opinion and people react. If she feels threatened, call the cops.

Her job (and any other social media worker) is getting attention. It's part of the job. It's like saying you don't want to come to work as a fire fighter when you get near fire.

Let me just stop you right there.

It's not a defense.

I am simply stating that we don't know why those messages were sent. We don't know who sent them.

Its important information if there is to be any meaningful discussion though.

You assume she got those messages from angry men who hate TLOU2 cos it has women in it, right?

If that's true then it takes the conversation in a certain direction.

We don't know that it's true though. So we need more information to properly know what the hell is going on.

Otherwise people are just choosing the "angry gamers" explanation becuase it fits the narrative that they personally want to run with.

"I don't know who did this or why but I need to know before drawing any conclusions" is not a defense of anything.

You talk as though it's some complete impossibility.

Its a fairly common phenomenon though.

You should look it up.

"On a friday night in 2016, Natalie Natividad, a 15-year-old in Hebbronville, Texas, took a fatal overdose of pills after enduring months of cyber-bullying. Most of the alleged taunts—that she was ugly, that she should kill herself—came on After School, an app that allows classmates to discuss one another anonymously. Her suicide prompted an investigation. The app's operators tracked which accounts had sent the abuse, while officials interviewed teachers and students. "We just want some justice," said Natalie's sister shortly after the death. "Whoever is bullying, I hope that they stop."

There were no bullies to find. The inquiry revealed that Natalie had secretly sent the abusive messages to herself. Such anonymous "digital self-harm", as researchers call it, is increasingly common. A study in 2019 found that nearly 9% of American adolescents have done it, up from around 6% in a previous study from 2016, according to an author of both studies, Sameer Hinduja, director of the Cyberbullying Research Centre and professor of criminology at Florida Atlantic University."

I don't say it's not possible but that without proof it is just a smear campaign.

It's called Occam's Razor; usually the simplest answer is the correct one. Yes we can speculate who sent those tweets and why, but at that point we are sort of putting guilt assumed on the supposed victim (or targeted individual here, as I'd like to put it). At that point we're inviting reasonable grounds to doubt their innocence and are somewhat acting as the defense for the accused party.

My issue here is that when people start coming up with cases of reasonable doubt for the accused, they generally don't ALSO come up with cases of presumed legitimacy for the accusing party, either. It's always one way or the other. If the former should be presumed innocent until proven guilty, that same rule must be held to the latter, as well.

And when you send tweets like that to someone, that's pretty damning a look no matter the reason behind it. So both parties could be presumed innocent here but the person/people behind those tweets look a little less innocent here than Alanah IMHO.

Unless, again, she fabricated those tweets herself. But speculating that with zero proof whatsoever (let alone her having no history of such things at all, to my knowledge), is casting suspicion of guilt on them over no solid grounds.

You talk as though it's some complete impossibility.

Its a fairly common phenomenon though.

Okay, these are people not named Alanah Pearce, so it bears zero relevance to her case. How's about we look at Alanah as an individual and not what group she happens to identify into, and see what that reveals.

...Ah, yes that's right. No prior incidents like this from her AFAIK. No history of this type of thing, for surely by now reports of such would have been coming out with evidence. Nothing of the sort, though.

If we're over here accusing game journalists of negatively grouping all dissenting gamers into a monolith, it's no good if we're doing the same to individuals who might be involved in some drama themselves and happen to also be games journalists.

I would say a good portion of well known personalities on YouTube have the same exact videos. It's common. So I don't get why it needs to be pointed out. Y'all weird sometimes. As if we don't know women love attention in general.
