Alien Covenant Trailer Released

I liked it. But I loved Prometheus, flaws and all. I really enjoyed the hard work put into the set design in that film and also the cast. I'm on board for any honest attempt at good sci-fi because I feel we get these kind of films less than we used to. Also pretty hyped to see Kenny fucking Powers get a role in a film like this. His facial expressions half way through the trailer might have been the best part!

So yeah. Looking forward to this, will get cinema ticks for sure!

I really want to see a movie adaptation of Isolation, think that'd be really cool. This trailer doesn't show enough to really get a good grasp of the tone and such, but I'm definitely going to see it day one regardless

Looks like yet another group of "FUCK YEAH BOI" people who has no idea what they're facing. I'd actually like it if they would show a team that has some solid intelligence about the threats they're facing and know almost exactly how deep in the shit they are from the moment they land on that planet. We'll once again go through the cycle of "oh my god what is this fascinating face-hugger creatur- BLOAAARRRHHHGGH!". Didn't leave me excited tbh.

This is exactly what I was thinking; the trailer looks a little formulaic.

I'm not sure if this is a prequel or not, but it loses that sense of mystery that makes good horror if the audiences already know what's lurking in the dark while the cast goes through the same old babe-in-the-woods routine.

Looks like Prometheus but with Ridley tying in a little of both the Alien and Aliens aesthetic.

Might be a mess but hopefully it retains some of the visual grandeur of Prometheus.

Lmao yeah that's it and it's not just a really panned movie? At this point if I had to wager people doing something just to feel important it would be liking Prometheus since it gets shit on and off the internet constantly for having god awful writing.

Why is that like the number one defense by people who like something that a lot of people don't like? That they're doing it to be edgy or whatever and not just because a lot of people think it's bad.
It isn't. It hovers around 70% in both user and critic reviews. This is the only place I've seen people shit on the movie this much. Most people just say it's average.

You're more likely to get that out of the Neil Blomkamp Alien movie than this one, since this is a sequel to Prometheus and not the later films.

It's kind of astounding to see all these negative opinions, though. I feel like I'm reading Rotten Tomatoes. I really enjoyed Prometheus.

Is it bad I've watched Prometheus as many times as Alien?

I'm intrigued about the engineers and don't mind the aliens. Looking forward to it.

What exactly is bad about it? It's an interesting idea.

Leaked SPOILERS!!!

Um,
the whole David flying to the Engineer homeworld and unleashing the black goo on them killing them ALL instantly. And, then soon after fucking with and killing Shaw before spending the next however many years on the planet screwing around with the alien life on the planet with the black goo to make weird hybrids for no reason. And, then the Covenant crew shows up how many years later, sees he's the only one on the planet, and trusts him. David then proceeds to fuck with all of them for no real reason which results in the xenomorph finally be created.

Crazy AI doing fucked up experiments and things to humans? What's bad about that?

Expected Daniels to be the silent and serious type but she's kinda cheery and cute in this trailer tbh.
The trailer could've been better without the song and shower scene imo,the aesthetics are definitely more reminiscent of Prometheus than the Alien movies.
Anyway,i think it will be a good movie imo but i really hope that
Daniels is not related to Ripley
because that would be really lame.

I read this thread before watching trailer and had prepared myself for a disaster, but I liked it! It wasn't amazing, but wasn't bad too. Can't wait for the movie.

Loved the trailer, having said that I don't have much hope for this film if the spoilers are true.

Someone said David creates the xenomorphs in this film but don't they already exist? I remember seeing a carving of one in a cave in Prometheus

it wouldnt make any sense. the ship on lv-426 should already be there when prometheus takes place. and it has the "real" eggs/aliens on board. and like you said, they had the carvings of the classic xeno in that room in prometheus.

if they turn david into the creator of the classic xenomorph...well, good luck with that. i hope david finds some data, that shows there is already the "perfect" lifeform(the eggs on lv-426) and he just tries to replicate it.

We don't know the specifics yet. There's definitely implications that xenomorphs have existed in the universe to some extent prior to Prometheus (i.e. the cave carving, the fossilized Derelict ship on LV-246), but the spoilers indicate that David goes all Dr. Moreau on Shaw, the Engineers they found on Paradise and now currently the crew of the Covenant.

The Xenomorph we see in Covenant seems to be spurred on by David tricking Billy Crudup's character into getting too close to an egg. We don't know for sure if David somehow made the egg himself through all of these experiments or if the eggs were already onboard the Juggernaut he and Shaw used at the end of Prometheus to get to Paradise- or if he even just happened to find out how to make the eggs from existing files on the ship that the Engineers might have left behind.

Personally, I'm leaning towards it being that either the eggs or the info on how to make them were already there to begin with and that David is using this latest batch of humans that have arrived on the planet as an opportunity to finally give the eggs a test drive.

Yeah, that's where my thoughts are leaning towards as well.

That trailer was horribly bland. Looked like the work of a no-name director doing some kind of fan film.

Reading the spoilers makes the movie sound worse than the trailer.

It's only 1
xeno though. The other creatures aren't like the classic alien in the poster and shoot spikes from their tails/back.

Problem with the prequel set up is the audience has seen all this crap before and crew haven't so it's really tired from my perspective and annoying that people don't know what the hell they are doing again. How stupid will this crew be to set up the drama is what I will be thinking. Seems like Alien/Aliens mixed with Prometheus. If they are having sex after multiple people have been killed I can't roll my eyes back fast enough.

On the plus side, the trailer isn't good so maybe the film will be great!

Seems to me like Ridley tried to do something new with Prometheus but since that movie's script dissapointed pretty much everyone, he's had to cave in and double down on a slasher/horror rehearsal of the first Alien.

I'll watch, and hopefully the trailer is just trying to appease those who thought Prometheus wasn't "scary" enough while the cool stuff about the Engineers, David and the black goo is still the backbone of the film. If this just ends up being another old slasher similar to what they've been doing in the comics since the release of Prometheus (from which they got a couples of ideas) then I don't really see any long term sustainability to the franchise, either creatively or financially.

Seems like a form of Xenomorph will already exists, but the rumours point to
David making the classic bio-mechanical Xenomorph that we all know by fusing android dna with the Xenomorph species.
If the rumours are true anyway.

That doesn't sound so bad actually.

Its not the answer I expected, but it's interesting and might get me excited for a third movie

Android DNA? Are Alien universe androids like Blade Runner's Replicants as in they are biological creatures with DNA?

Legit.

I've read the spoilers, you still haven't explained why it's bad, you just regurgitated the spoilers.

Crazy AI doing fucked up experiments and things to humans? What's bad about that?

Alright.

LEAKED SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to pointing out non-sense in Prometheus as well which naturally will tie into Covenant.

1. Answer me this very basic question first, why is David an asshole? It's never explained in Prometheus why he is a secret asshole fucking with the crew? Why does he "hate" humans? Why does he do these experiments? How did he know the alien goo would do anything in Prometheus? Why? Why? Why? And, don't give me the stupid, "he's an android, AI's always turn on their creators." Nothing in Prometheus explained why David would turn on his creators whilst simultaneously be obsessed with creating some new life form and torturing his masters.

2. Why would the Engineer homeworld (assuming the leak is true) consist of one city and outerlying forests? They have no other cities? This being the homeworld of an interstellar race of Space Gods and what not.

3. Why do the Engineers have zero planetary defenses to stop David from releasing the black goo?

4. Why do they have no antidote or counter to the black goo which they themselves created?

5. Why would Shaw trust David to do a single fucking thing after the events of Prometheus? Why not just keep his disembodied head to do computing and analysis shit and thus prevent him from fucking about?

6. How does David get a new body after him getting fucked up in Prometheus?

7. Why doesn't the Covenant crew immediately suspect David when he's the ONLY "earth-like" thing on the planet? Did the Prometheus crew (or rather Shaw) send ZERO messages back about their malfunctioning retard android?

8. Why does Shaw even go to the Engineer homeworld instead of going to Earth first, get some Space Marines, and then head over?

9. How does any of this explain Space Jockey and all his alien eggs in "Alien" when David supposedly wiped them all out and created the xenomoprhs later?

10. How is ALL of this kept under wraps by the time "Alien" comes around?

I could go on. Everything I've read suggest Prometheus 2.0" Electric Xenobugaloo. The mystery behind Space Jockey and I guess his now, known race called the Engineers, seemed pretty simple in the originals. Adavanced race creates a biological lifeform to fight in their wars, perhaps even a civil war, species becomes too advanced and wipes them all out. Done and simple with a nice social message. Now, we've got Engineers creating humans with black goo, leading humans to some colony where their Android goes crazy for no reason, they wake up an Engineer who despite creating humans now hates them and tries to kill them, David experiments with black goo on his human masters creating fucked up hybrids, crew member survives everything and decides to best plan of action is to go to the Engineer homeworld, alone, with her crazy droid. Crazy droid then obviously betrays human, kills all super race Engineers, spends decade or so on planet continuing experiments before beacon causes a human crew to show up so he can experiment on them and thus finally create a xenomorph so that it can????

What's the message? What's the point? Why is anyone doing anything in these films?

Android DNA? Are Alien universe androids like Blade Runner's Replicants as in they are biological creatures with DNA?

I'm still not convinced Ridley wont try to tie the two together somehow.

Prometheus was already (but poorly) treading a lot of the same thematic/philosophical ground Blade Runner was built on as it was. I could see him trying to strengthen those ties more solidly, much in the same way he (unnecessarily) solidified Deckard's status as a Replicant with his Final Cut.

This is it, Alien Covenant. It's a sequel to Prometheus so those questions will be answered.

Yeah... I just thought the prospect of that story was a little more exotic than "ship with mercenaries or whatever land on planet and discover aggressive alien xenomorph that kills them all".

I guess we're going to have to see...

Android DNA? Are Alien universe androids like Blade Runner's Replicants as in they are biological creatures with DNA?

Who knows for sure, if its even true. The black goo could be involved in fusing the two, I'm fine with that though, at least its something different than the usual sci-fi android.

I spy more Aliens influence in this one than in Prometheus.

It could be even dumber than Prometheus and I would still go watch it...

I just have one question: why did they get rid of Shaw if there's a girl who looks like Shaw, acts like Shaw and dresses like Shaw?

Alright.

Excellent post and agreed 100%. I guess hoping the leaks are fake is just wishful thinking :(

maybe David will make all sorts of Aliens and we can get a shared Cinematic Universe like Marvel's ! Half being facetious half serious.

I'm assuming i'll like this since i'm such an Alien fan i even liked Prometheus (despite the dumbness it was very entertaining).

I doubt i'll ever get sick of seeing a Xenomorph go beast mode on some fools. (beast mode is all it does!)
