Alien Covenant Trailer Released

The trailer didn't instill confidence in me that it'll be good. It looks like a Jurassic World-tier in terms of these "soft franchise reboots" that are happening a lot lately.

I don't see how this is offering anything over any other Aliens film apart from Fassbender.

Discover aliens, aliens get on ship, infect everyone, kill almost everyone, last person alive kills alien but not really.

Very disappointing trailer.

Prometheus had some of the best trailers ever but this was just meh.

Hype deflated a little.

WWWHHHHAAAAAAAA???

O__o

To clarify, and these are huge spoilers that reveal the main mystery and plot point of the film.
He's responsible for creating the proto eggs and facehugger because he's been experimenting with the black goo since they arrived on the Planet to create the perfect organism. He has a lab or workshop of horrors of his experiments beneath the engineer citadel.

The neomorphs or new xenos are the by products of him unleashing the black goo as a bioweapon on the planet to infect and wipe out the engineers. The black spores being the result.

A few test screenings have already happened which is where these spoilers come from. Those "in the know" like the AvPGalaxy crew, who broke the James Franco news, claim they're legit and a lot of details mentioned have come to fruition via this trailer and press reports on the other footage.

So,
Fassbender is a villain again, and the engineers are not the creators of the xenos
?

That's a hell of a retcon.
I was excited for this :/
And I liked the trailer!

I can already see the memes.

What the fuck

Ridley already started retconning shit in Prometheus over Alien so par the course I guess.

Eh, not feeling this trailer at all.
It's obviously an interesting world and all, but the movie itsel looks like it's going to be a collection of cheap jump scares and dumb death scenes, from the trailer.
At this point in time Prometheus looked leagues more intruguing.

BUT, we all know how that turned out so, who knows? That shower scene though? Lmao.

Oh I forgot that David can communicate with the neomorphs and tries to protect them since he's the "father". Lol

If the dialog is extra hammy it could be a so bad it's good.

Visually gorgeous.

Acting seems hokey.

Structurally as others have commented, it seems to be setting up a very familiar path. Go to planet, find crashed ship, find eggs, get infected, ship blows up, aliens go loose. This is worrying me the most. Dont get me wrong, it's a good formula but when you already have Alien being pretty much one of the best sci fi films of all time you aren't going to top it.

Very much feels like Prometheus 2

Man, Alien movies just keep finding new and creative ways to be considered non-canon, huh. People are going to hate this.

Maybe I'm getting old and jaded but these modern movies really do nothing for me at all. Is it just me?

Nope. Very few big budget movies get me excited anymore, studios are so risk-averse and everything about this movie looks to be in keeping with that, just a re-do of what worked before.

Trailer was OK. Didn't blow me away nor did I think it was necessarily bad.

I think the characters look really boring though. None really stood out like Alien and Aliens' characters do.

Looks like trash

Cinematography looks to be a huge drop off from Prometheus.
I would not call it trash.
But something does look off here, i can not put my finger on it though. Except for the last shower scene shot which is just flat.

These spoilers are hilarious.

On the plus side Billy Crudup is a good and underutilized actor and it's nice to see him getting a paycheque out of this probable boondoggle.

Was it really necessary to show so many deaths and generally spoiler-y stuff? If you can't make an atmospheric trailer with your Alien movie, you kind of fucked up.

It wasn;t the greatest film ever made, but it was very decent.

I hate this qualifier as if we can't criticize something as long as it isn't the worst movie ever made. My bar isn't so high as to expect the greatest movie ever made. It's to expect an entertaining and coherent movie, a bar which Prometheus failed to pass. I would only give it entertaining because I like seeing new worlds, new sci fi stuff, and people dying.

Seriously though, is this screenplay pieced together from unused pieces of Alien: Engineers and Alien 3?

Like, Ridley is literally just repurposing old shit laying around Fox?

What the fuck was that? Why would you repeat the dumb shit in Prometheus in this new movie, and then include that in the trailer? That entire trailer just made me shake my head and say "I've seen this before and I didn't like it." The tail in the shower...come on...That looks like B horror movie shlock.

At least Billy Crudup is in here. He's a solid actor. But the rest of that trailer did nothing to instill any confidence in me.

As soon as I saw that black speck go in the guy's ear I was Highly Skeptical.

I went ahead and read the spoilers because the trailer left me sufficiently demoralized. Now I am catatonic.

This doesn't seem to offer anything new from the stellar first two films. Would rather just watch those again.

Maybe I'm getting old and jaded but these modern movies really do nothing for me at all. Is it just me?

When I started really getting into movies in college, I had a several-year "jaded" phase where modern movies did nothing for me because they seemed so overly-polished and safe compared to the scrappier films of the past. But now I can appreciate a "safe", polished modern movie as long as it brings something fresh to the table (even if purely on a visual level) and is well made.

I guess I got lucky, because I don't see myself getting permanently jaded when I get old, since I already got over it when I was young.

I hate that they keep introducing shitty fake Xenomorphs. Hate that shit, you already have the greatest movie monster of all time and nobody cares for your toys, why do this shit?

I will never understand some people's hate for Prometheus.

It wasn;t the greatest film ever made, but it was very decent.

Considering the first two films in the series are some of the best ever and that they set a lot of tropes look etc of sci fi films going forward and having the director from the first film and his pedigree many of us where excited and overjoyed to find out the origin of the xenomorphs etc but what we go instead was a great looking film with a scant crap story. even as a stand alone film the story doesn't make sense fully (I guess the screen writer is famous for writing scripts then removing half the story to allow the audience to fill in the blanks) it looked nice it was just a bad story.

Ridley Scott is one of the greatest directors ever visually he is one of the best but Prometheus has a turd for a story. Never once have I heard anyone say that film was badly shot or it looked crap it was the story/script that killed it.

As for the hate for it. Star Wars prequels??

Hmm, I dunno. More spoilers
The desire to create the perfect organism in a pretty clinical way is sorta neat to me.
