Alien-Looking Skeleton Poses Medical Mystery

Yeah, Homo floresiensis had a similar case to the pygmy elephant - did not have the resources to sustain a large body, so over time the smaller individuals who did not need as much food survived. It's the pinnacle of human evolution in terms of natural selection. I, too, find it interesting (bio major).

Mummification generally causes the individual to shrink, and the head looks like a result of some autosomal mutation. So it could be that plus dwarfism plus the mummification that mutated it to such a level.

The most interesting thing is that they haven't found any of the typical markers for dwarfism in the genome. Maybe they just haven't found them yet?

It's certainly possible. Generic dwarfism isn't too hard to pinpoint because it's a dominate trait, granted homozygous individuals die. Another thing we could be looking at is a form of dwarfism that killed off the population by a certain age and as a result it doesn't exist in the population today.

That's true too, which would mean they wouldn't know what to look for.

So interesting, I honestly can't wait until they release more information.

Is it even biologically possible for a human body to work at that scale? The internal organs would be so incredibly small. That they seem to think it was 6-8 years old is amazing.

I'm surprised that's actually a legit skeleton. I've seen it on numerous alien autopsy shows over the last decade or so and always assumed it was just another fake.

The organs don't have to be as big if the body is small. It's all about that SA:vol ratio.

If this guy is still alive today at 73 years old and 21 inches tall, I guess I can see the one in the OP lasting a few years.

But look at that versus the thing in the OP.

Yeah, like I said in another post, those tend to look more like tumors with baby like qualities than tiny humans.

Scientists are baffled. Right? Please someone let me know how many scientists have been baffled.

Scientists are baffled cause otherwise no one would click the link apparently. They aren't 'baffled' so much as working to discover what caused the mutations/deformities.

I think independent testing needs to be done, but it's looking unlikely that this is a fake. It will be interesting to find out what the cause of the condition actually is.

Seems like a lot of people are assuming it's a fake, with nothing to support that notion.

Well then, case closed!

Put away that DNA testing, a charlatan was associated with this so it MUST be fake!

Haha you make it sound like "they" (the people who have this thing) are ever going to do anything except generate hype leading up to cashgrab. At which point they will say DNA testing was inconclusive or say that the results were positive and never ever let a legitimate scientist look at it or review their results. Does that sound familiar? If it does its because that is what happens with every publicly declared paranormal "discovery".

Trust me, I'm in the "I want to believe camp" but this type of stuff is complete hooey.

I'll be excited when these clowns discover peer review and consultation. Of course it takes something not cooked up in your basement for that to happen.

Edit: I'm sorry, I say this to the people who claim its an alien baby. It is certainly possible it is a highly deformed human child I guess.

That would be the creepiest thing ever if it was alive. Imagine that thing running on your desk while you're on your PC.

Guess you didn't read the part where they already tested it and determined it was a human child 6 to 8 years old?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithopedion

It's a thing that can happen, very rarely.

i recently saw an episode of Law and Order about this and i did research about it.

it is completely possible that the mother had it for 6 years, it deformed a little bit, came out rock solid and then they gave it a burial.

i'm not sure if they should have already figured that out though. was there evidence it was a fully developed being, though?

science is just trolling us yo

that shits gonna come out with an explanation and all our hopes will be shattered once more

aliens, ghosts, demons they are make believe and our world is boring ):

It does change things when you read the article and discover 'they' are Stanford University.

This is absolutely incredible! I love oddities like this.

"DNA and other tests suggest the individual was a human... I've only scratched the surface in the analysis."

I believe!

Seriously though. I do believe in alien life and I really hope that we find evidence of life on other planets too.

This was an interesting thread to read through, mostly because I didn't read the article at first. I was trying to decide if this was a debunked hoax or what, and opinions seemed oddly mixed.

Then I finally read the article. Stanford university is pretty legit from my perspective. It may not be an alien, but it seems to be real, and it is pretty freaky.

If there was some birth defect that could cause a person to be that small, you'd think we would have documented it by now, and furthermore, you would think that such a defect would probably cause all sorts of health problems that would keep somebody from living to be 6 or 8 years old.

Maybe fairies/gnomes are real... Or hell, maybe fairies/gnomes are actually what we've come to call aliens. Or maybe this is what we will all evolve into in the future, and eventually we will learn to time travel. Or maybe all of the above.

Lol, I don't know, but this is pretty awesome.

Maybe a mod can change the title of the thread to 'Tiny human skeleton' instead of 'Alien-looking skeleton' and people might actually read the op.

what if it came from the future where we evolved to decrease in size

and everyone in that future is so brilliant from birth, that they are able to send back 4-5 year olds as if they are trained scientists in their late 40s

so when the little guy came back to our current time he realized that compared to his people we are much happier because we're more ignorant and less smart and he's like ''fuck this.. the future is wrong tfw i will never laugh at farts'' and commited harakiri

Man, imagine living 6-8 years in a body like that in a pre-modern society. Since it lived that long, it could not have been in a vegetative state.

Just weird.

This part of the article is interesting, as well:

The genome sequencing suggested the creature was human, though 9 percent of the genes didn't match up with the reference human genome; the mismatches may be due to various factors, including degradation, artifacts from lab preparation of the specimen or insufficient data.

How the hell is the skeleton still intact? It's been underground for god knows how long, the bones should easily be separated and not glued together like what that image suggests.
