Aliens: Colonial Marines demo vs. final build

I think the wii u will look better because the motion tracker will be on the gamepad, this will allow a lot more graphics to get on the tv.

I think people will think twice before buying their next game if they think Gearbox will bamboozle them. So what happens now then ? They can't release a patch or something to rework the graphics?
If they want to repair some of their image they should get to work on the mother of all patches.

This puts Randy Pitchfords Dice talk about magic tricks in a new perspective... he sure pulled a David Copperfield with Aliens Colonial Marines.

No... they will just crawl into some other niche-y hole where they don't have any direct competition and use a poorly realized genre-blend gimmick to trick people into believing they know how to make AAA games.

You mean to tell me bonerfart isn't AAA standard Writing?!

People always give Molyneux a hard time because his games don't live up to his promises, but at least it's always clear that Molyneux isn't lying maliciously but because his ideas are over-ambitious.

Pitchford on the other hand? He's lying in your face with a big smile on his lips. He hyped up Aliens even though he knew that it was an absolute disaster behind the scenes. He hyped up Duke Nukem even though it was obvious that it will only be interesting as a piece of gaming history and not as a good game.

Seriously, I don't want anyone to lose his job and the Borderlands games show that there are very talented people working at Gearbox, but if even half of what's being claimed on Reddit, Kotaku etc is true, I can't say I'd feel bad if Sega sued Gearbox full-force. The way Gearbox supposedly handled the development leaves me speechless. Of course, Sega's far from innocent either. They knew what kind of shit Gearbox was developing but still refused to pull the plug.

Well, I hope they're hard at work in the pre-production stages of Borderlands 3.

Because nobody should ever give them another licensed property ever again.

I know I'm not going to! I was willing to overlook Duke Nukem Forever because I just viewed that as Geabox acquiring a license for a better game in the future.

Randy Pitchford seems like such a genuine and amiable person in interviews but he's flat out lying in every interview where that demo is being used to flog Aliens: Colonial Marines. Not just to the enthusiast press but to gamers everywhere that watch and read those interviews.

Exactly. This is very sad to me.

I like you, Randy. But you fucked me.
YOU FUCKED ME, RANDY.

lol that video is so funny now. I'm glad I never had any hopes for this game in the first place, as I'm able to just sit back and enjoy the slaughter.

Same, this is what I had to say about that trailer.

Don't want to sound too harsh, but the gameplay demo they showed looked really generic. No tension whatsoever, crappy dialogue, aliens running around aimlessly, scripted sequences all of the time (could be for demo purpose), poor weapons visual feedback, etc etc.

The only redeeming quality could be the co-op, but i doubt that even with the delay they'll be able to fix the game.

Thats my thought as well. DNF just seemed like it was doomed to fail from the get go, and they did the best the could with what they were given.

Aliens seems like a cash-in for a title they do not give a fuck about. Which is exactly what Randy promised they wouldn't do.

Has Randy said anything since the release of this lie? After believing him about DNF and now Aliens CM I might be boycotting any and all Gearbox games.

What's even weirder is that they managed to create and release 3 sets of Borderlands 2 DLC (first of which was outsourced) in between the time they shipped BL2 and the time they shipped A:CM, though I guess they were obliged to because of the season pass.

I think their enthusiasm is genuine, but perhaps when he looked at the company bank account and then at the success of Borderlands, they decided to invest more heavily in Borderlands 2 and AC:M took a backseat.

That comparison video is confusing me. So Demo is the Final Build and Final is the old Demo? What?
Edit:
Wait, no? I'm certain they've mislabelled some of them or that they are talking about the wrong thing.

I'm not sure why the OP version hasn't been switched since it's been edited several times, but here's the fixed version of the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?annota...&feature=iv&src_vid=3z2qVebxlUo&v=6lGXDM3LGnk

In the original version, they switched some of the labels by mistake, but it's corrected in the version marked "Fixed".

Edit: Too slow.

Randy seems so pumped in that walkthrough video I don't get if he personally felt that way about working on an Aliens game how did he/they managed to let it get to this? Unless it was just all for the marketing spiel and he was just straight up telling people what they wanted to hear (publishers, studios included).

Key quote: 'Somehow 20th Century Fox decided to trust us' yeah, we're all wondering that 'somehow' part now too, Randy.

How does this even happen? It didn't even look particularly great or anything before.

I think it's pretty clear now that GBX created this false demo to satisfy Sega and fans then had to throw it all out for development purposes. Sega got ripped off.

It's still currently the top selling game on Steam, but there are already nearly 3 times as many people playing Borderlands 2 right now. In fact, AC:M's peak today (14,000) was less than Borderlands 2's (16,000).

I wonder if people are playing it just to see how bad it is.

This isn't unprecedented. To say that the original Half-Life 2 demo exaggerated everything about the game would be understating it. Halo 2 as well. The only difference is that those ended up being good games.

I'll go with that option. People are pointing out in the other Aliens thread that Gearbox has done this before with Brothers in Arms.
Oh man, I almost forgot about that. I was so excited for the next gen Brothers at Arms with the screens and footage they were showing off prior to release. When Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway finally came out, it's like they used a completely different build. A build not remotely capable of pulling off the kind of detail they were displaying before release.

At least Bungie admitted that fuck up with the Halo 2 E3 demo.

Not the first time gearbox and especially randy pitchford have hyped a game loads, and then it turns out well below what they promised.

Brother in Arms: hells highway ring a bell?

I was so hyped by all the E3 showing and press of this game, but it turned out far worse.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCW6qxMvdyo - could not find better quality but I remember it being far better looking the the actual game
Yep, right there with you.

Am I the only one who REALLY wants to play this out of morbid curiosity now?

Shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks come Summer Sale anyway.

in the configs for this game i see this mentioned alot TODO: Some of these should be moved down to the Pecan level. in the game folder i have config files for these people aswell JBROOME and CMCKNIGHT
