Sweet. I get paid today too. Lets see. FLCL for $19 bucks? Sure, why not. Anyone know if they're any good transfers for Blu-ray?
FLCL looks like shit on Blu. It's a 480i upscale with a ton of DNR and edge softening.

It's nice to see the intense sequences without heavy MPEG-2 artifacting, though.

IMO the best looking set on sale is Casshern Sins. Amazing character designs (Umakoshi <3) + amazing animation + native HD = a feast for the eyes.

Any reviews on the YYH blu ray set?
The picture is good. Not much else to say - reviewers are generally full of poo anyways. :P

Okay I don't watch a lot of anime. I loved cowboy bebop, and FLCL. Practically had a shrine for evangelion. But that's it. Every anime I've ever watched other then those (oh and akira and robotech) I never liked. Chobits is something I've never heard of. It's some girl computer? Im afraid to research more because I started to end up in some strange corners of the internet... can someone here tell me if Its good and your wager if someone like me might like it?

Remember when FLCL was 30 bucks for 2 episodes?

Jesus.
Yeah. The market didn't support it so now we have things better.

Anyways, Eva 1.11 and 2.22 look fucking incredible in 1080p. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep my DVD copies then.
If you're really curious, they had the first episode in the bluray quality for free download in itunes a while back.

Seeing it made me want to never get the bluray, though.

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings - The Complete 1st Season any good?

I like over the top samurai action so hmm.

Slayers. Seasons 1-3 (all the 90's stuff) in a DVD box set for $25. Man, I shouldn't, but I'm certainly tempted. Plus, the two new seasons on BRD for half price as well.

I am tempted by the slayer box set deal, is it worth it? I mean the package itself :P

btw, I am so buying the mushishi box set =D

Eh, it's not that good. Rebuild is artistically pretty ugly and full of out of place looking CG which is just unpleasant.

Repeating myself but Casshern Sins is just sooo nice. Probably the nicest looking anime Blu-ray released in the US. Such amazing style.

Most of these series are on Netflix right now....

for once, my wallet will not feel the pain of an amazon sale.

nevermind

Oh? I guess I'm unbiased because I never saw the original show. It never seemed to clash to me.

Not the new set that is on sale. Buy away!

whats different about the new set? I bought the first release...did they do a full restoration or something?

No, it's just not filtered. The series has heavy digital grain that was wiped out in the original release along with a lot of fine detail. The new release preserves the digital grain and the fine detail.

samurai champloo was 19.99 a few days ago. these "sales" tend to raise the price a few dollars. they're still cheaper then most places. the b1g1 is even worse because they raise the prices back to retail for it.

Why must you make me spend more money! lol

I have never seen Casshern Sins but you keep hyping it so bad I may just add it to my cart. So far I have Samurai Champloo and the Cowboy Bebop movie in there. Guess I have room for one more :P

I think I'm in for...

Samurai Champloo Bluray
School Rumble Boxset
Yu Yu Hakusho season 1 Bluray

Does anyone have any experience with the Dragon Ball Kai stuff? I'm looking at the Bluray and it is pretty cheap. I've never seen even one episode of Kai, but I've watched an unhealthy amount of the original dub back in the day.

Also, does anyone have any experience with the viridian collection for Case Closed? I liked what I saw from a few episodes and the prices are fantastic.

That is pretty sweet. I love the series, but I don't have it for DVD. Looks like I'm in for this purchase.

I didn't watch past the first volume but once I heard it ends after Cell (no Buu) I gave up on it.

Uh, every single review I've read on the internet says the new set is the exact same transfer as the old set. The only difference is the packaging/sku.

There's the problem.

Not only is there picture evidence, Funi confirmed it after it released:

BD reviewers are really pretty clueless - things like this serve as proof.

After looking around a bit and hearing the voices I decided I'll just skip on it. Paprika and Tekkonkinkreet should make for wonderful first views.

Thanks

About to buy.

Just to be clear, the FLCL Blu-ray is literally just the DVDs upscaled?
No, it's the SD master upscaled. If it was literally the DVDs it would have MPEG-2 artifacting everywhere.

He obviously didn't mean the actual dvds, but was asking if it came from a standard definition master.

I'm almost positive I was browsing through Amazon a couple weeks ago and these prices were pretty much exactly the same. If not, they were only off by a couple dollars.

What are GAF's opinions on: FLCL, Dragon Ball GT, and Mushi Shi?

I'm thinking about purchasing these three!
FLCL is one of those all-time classics that everyone should at least watch. It used to be $90 for the six episodes, so it's great that Funi got the rights and re-released at an appropriate price. GT is GT, Mushi Shi can be viewed in its entirety (sub/dub) at Funimation's website (if you're in US). Actually, most of their shows can be watch there, Hulu, or Youtube, so you can give yourself as much of a preview you need to see if buying will be worth it.

I really love mushishi but to get a better idea I also suggest you to watch some clips on youube or something

Picked up Summer Wars, as I've been meaning to get that for ages. I would pick up YYH, but I think I'll wait until all the sets come out, since by then I can get them all for the cheap (maybe all boxed together). Besides, browsing around this morning I saw the season sets for Samurai Jack for under 20 bucks, and couldn't resist!

Not so big on Anime lately, I don't know why.

I really like FLCL, but I hear that the BR release is pretty weak. Outside of theatrical releases, it is hard to get interesting in buying the few anime shows I want on blu-ray, 'cause it seems like we can expect pretty poor quality most of the time.

School Rumble collection for $22!!

FUUUUU
Yes, I just bought it and I can't wait to watch the series again. This time I'll watch the sub since Netflix only had the dubbed version. I love me some School Rumble. <3 Harima

Ever darn time, can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or is Amazon borked when it comes to listing items by low to high price? I keep getting 22.49 to 5.99 to 11.49 to 5.49. its all over the place.
If some doofus is selling a horribly used copy for 1 cent + $20 shipping, Low-to-High will count it as the lowest priced item. I once contacted Amazon support about if there was a way for it to not be stupid, and got a "Thanks for the feedback" type reply.

It looks fantastic but the series itself is way too boring and depressing. Tried getting through it twice and I just couldn't. :/
