Amber Heard charged for smuggling her and Johnny Depp's dogs into Australia

I'm being honest. If I was them I'd be rich as fuck and would have access to the best lawyers money can buy. Plus, everytime I hear of the Australian government it makes them seem like a bunch of grade-A dick heads.

The Australian government is made up of a bunch of dick heads but Depp and his wife broke the law and shouldn't be excused just because they're rich.

Keep in mind that the punishment is a proposed one and can be minimised or removed entirely. She could get 75,000 fine and no jail time. Jail time and no 75,000. No jail time and 10,000 fine and whatever other combination.

Fact is, they broke Australian law and must suffer the consequences for it. I would assume a famous Australian celebrity have the same treatment if they broke an American law (Hugh Jackman, Hugo Weaving).

lol at the last part. You'd either have to murder someone in broad daylight or not pay your taxes in order to spend any time in prison as a celebrity in the USA.

As for their bullshit charges: They were allowed to leave the country, so excuse me if I don't think much to the legal threats they're drumming up after the fact.

Australia is pretty clear about its border laws on importing animals and organic materials. I'm not happy with the Abbot government about a lot of things, but this is one area where I totally agree with the laws.

But despite the Australian government being aware of it all they allowed the dogs to be taken back on a private plane out of the country to a place where the Australian government has no jurisdiction.

That is some amazing border control.

Why are people defending what they did?

Is this a 'MURCIA thing? It certainly seems that way. There's more to the world than the US, guys. Shocking, I know. We've got an eco-system to protect and if you willingly endanger it by breaking the law, then you deserve to be punished.

Ehm... that was the point. Pick them up and be gone or they'll be killed in a week or so. How is that wrong? It's not the dogs on trial.

What are you even talking about? You sound like an idiot.

They broke the law, now they have to deal with it. Just like everyone else that breaks the law.

Egh, double post...

It's not like this is some new, or obscure law put into place

Australia has been pretty active in letting people know not to do this shit.

Pissing off celebrities is a small price to pay to uphold laws which keep fucking rabies out of country

and before anyone starts posting pictures of the dogs and saying "oh these cute doggies can't possibly be harmful" like last thread,
the incubation period of rabies can be 3-8 weeks, with little to no fucking symptoms

Well, I hope you're all satisfied. You bullied a bunch of naive movie folks—folks from a Hollywood where customs are different. They weren't thinking about the ecosystem. They just wanted to tell a story, a story about a drunk pirate, and you slick environmental quarantine officials took 'em for all they were worth.

But despite the Australian government being aware of it all they allowed the dogs to be taken back on a private plane out of the country to a place where the Australian government has no jurisdiction.

... what. The entire stupid media circus was about the fact that people found to have smuggled animals into the nation have a set amount of time to organise for them to be removed or they will be destroyed. That they complied is somehow a failing of border security? Australian authorities have no interest in keeping smuggled animals in their custody.

The Australian Government is fucked up in a lot of ways, but strict quarantine laws on bringing in flora and fauna have been enforced for decades. And it is absolutely one of the most respectable laws we have have

Don't bring your pets in to our country illegally, our ecosystem is unique and well protected for a reason

Lol everyone defending depps wife american or something?

Not really defending her, but condemning some douche politician for making a big deal out of nothing. They sent their dogs back on a private plane before the deadline. Give them a ticket and move on. Other Australian politicians have called this guy out on how silly he has made the country seem.

The enforcement of the law is logical. The continuing attempt to prosecute is ridiculous.

Good picture to explain why Australia is so protective

Most people who fail to declare have the opinion that nothing bad can happen from their actions. They only way to force it into their thick skulls and deter them from doing it again is to have the law enforced.

I love it how ignorant people are even with an entire Simpsons episode to spur them along!

"What it's just a dog? Who cares, it doesn't change a thing. Australia is stupid xoxo depp movie star 5eva"

Just because American ecosystems are trash and filth doesn't mean ours has to be. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go outside and not get rabies today. Hoo roo.

Australian government can ease up the taxpayers burden by sending her to my house instead of jail. I'll keep her, free of charge, for 10 years.

But bitten, liquified and consumed by a giant arachnid .....

I understand that law(s) were broken and a fee/penalty should be imposed but are people really arguing that dogs are going to mess up Australia's ecosystem?

Whether or not they are isn't important. They can, and imported dogs in general can absolutely be a threat to Aus's environment.

Holy shit can dogs fuck up an ecosystem without even trying. Imported anything can fuck up an ecosystem, and Australia is home to some very unique critters.

Yes, they can. Why is that so hard to comprehend? Is Europeans wiping out a large percentage of the Native American human population by introducing new diseases also that hard to comprehend?
