Really starting to get into soccer for the past year or so since my son now plays in highschool.

I have two probably very noob offside questions but figured this is the best place to ask.

1.) can you be offside on a throw in?

2.) say me and a teammate have completely blown by the defense. and it's just me and him running at the goalie. could i pass my teammate the ball even if he's 10 yards ahead of me, remembering that all defenders other then the goalie are behind us?

Timothy Chandler has re-signed with his old club, Eintracht Frankfurt.

Also, Greg Seltzer notes that Boyd is getting offers from some bigger leagues now:
I can reveal that Rapid Vienna ace Terrence Boyd is now getting calls from the top two flights in England and Germany. Red Bull Salzburg remain interested, but I'm told the forward is hoping to move up from the Austrian Bundesliga.

If I see one more post about NYCFC's marketing, I'm going to lose my mind.

It's so goddamn frustrating to see all of it.

Yeah, I can imagine it must be. One of the things that has been pretty damn smart from them is that they're using the stadium kerfuffle to their advantage. Touting Yankee Stadium as a selling point is pretty darn smart, especially since they'll probably pull in a decent number of folks who aren't accustomed to going to games anyway so the configuration shouldn't be quite as big of a detriment to them.

About 7 weeks or so until I get to see a game there. YES!

At least they have one game and a little under two weeks to fix it. :p

where was the ball hit from? Chandler should have been level with the other defenders there, but it seems he's probably in the right general position. Davis creeped over too much and should have been in the middle of inan, 9, and gonul.

I'm assuming the ball was hit from 15 or Erkin. if Inan had the ball, then yeah, that looks horrible. I'd need to see the leadup in order to really see what happened though

After that game, there's no way Chandler ever starts. I hope. He's not even looking at the play, he's looking at Howard and/or Beasler to figure out what to do.

And what happened to Davis on that play? How does get that far left when you are playing 4 in mid. When all 4 of your midfield 4 are on the same side of the field, you're gonna have a bad time. That's like something you should have learned in middle school level of soccer.

Quick reminder that there's a new episode of Inside: US Soccer's March to Brazil tonight at 7:30pm ET.

I'd need to see the leadup in order to really see what happened though
Yes, it'd require some context to figure out exactly what happened there, though the US was getting stretched regularly. The defensive setup didn't work very well until the halftime adjustments.
Anyone here believe US will make it out of their group?
I think most of the odds makers that give the US about a 30% chance of advancing are probably about right. It's not likely, but not outside the realm of possibility. The US will have to play pretty well and get a little bit of luck to get through the group.

SKC transferred Uri Rosell to Sporting CP in Portugal.

Sporting Kansas City announced on Tuesday that the club has agreed to transfer midfielder Oriol Rosell to Sporting CP in Lisbon, Portugal. Sporting Kansas City will receive two-thirds of the transfer fee to use as allocation money^ per MLS rules, as well as a percentage of any future transfer of Rosell from Sporting CP to another club.

Per club policy, terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

“We wish Uri the best of luck in pursuing this new opportunity," said Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman. "The perception from the outside might be that the timing is not great, but from the inside we believe that the timing is perfect. It opens the door for Uri and for us. Uri came from Barcelona B to Sporting Kansas City, won an MLS Cup and furthered his development on the field. This transfer helps enable us to retain our core players while adding pieces to the team. As we continue to build our roster for the future, and looking at our goal of pursuing championships, we identify what types of players we need to have on our roster to compete continuously for the U.S. Open Cup, MLS Cup and Champions League. This move has also expanded the relationships we have built with many top clubs, opening access to similar players around the world, showcasing what can be accomplished in Kansas City and the other platforms that open up from here.”

Rosell, 21, joined Sporting Kansas City in August 2012 from Barcelona B. He contributed two goals and two assists in 49 MLS appearances (including postseason) and led all MLS players with 130 interceptions during the 2013 season. Rosell was voted No. 14 on MLSsoccer.com's top 24 players under the age of 24 last year and made his international debut for Catalonia in 2013.

Sporting Clube de Portugal were runners-up in the Liga ZON Sagres this season and will compete in the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League. The team features two-time MLS All-Star Fredy Montero, as well as four players on national team rosters for the 2014 FIFA World Cup: Islam Slimani (ALG), Marcos Rojo (ARG), William Carvalho (POR) and Rui Patricio (POR).

^In accordance with MLS Roster Rules and Regulations, allocation money does not count against a club's salary budget and can be used:
To sign players new to MLS
To re-sign an existing MLS player, subject to League approval
To "buy-down" a player's salary budget charge below the League maximum
In connection with the exercise of an option to purchase a player's rights or the extension of a player's contract for the second year provided the player was new to MLS in the immediately prior year
Rosell becomes the third Sporting Kansas City player in the last 18 months to move to Europe. In 2013, Honduran midfielder Roger Espinoza joined Wigan Athletic (England) and Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara was transferred to Middlesbrough FC (England). Rosell’s transfer will open a Salary Budget Player spot and international slot on the Sporting Kansas City roster.

Well hell.

EASILY one of our top 5 players. I really liked him and liked watching him play. He had great control, passing, positioning, and makes some amazing tackles. Good for him that he's going home but I'm sad to see him leave.

I wish I knew how much Kamara money was left, if any, and how much we'll have after this. We need to make a big signing. Not a Clint Dempsey or Michael Bradley signing, but we need to spend some money on someone.

Altidore?

Despite his poor run of form, Altidore won't come back to MLS for much less than $10m since that's about what Sunderland spent on him.

Perhaps Sporting KC had an agreement with Rosell that if a top European club came calling, they would make the deal happen. The transfer fee is pretty disappointing but depending on the sell-on fee, it could be quite beneficial in the end.

I was talking to someone about that. He's big and physical which we could use. His potential goal scoring upside is great. However he's in a seven month slump and we don't know how soon he'll come out of it. Also we always try to hard working players who aren't afraid to run and I don't know if Jozy will work hard enough to make Vermes happy.

There's a reason the "Is Jozy Running?" twitter account exists. :p

Dax is out a few weeks with a knee injury. Not looking good for next weeks game against New England or the game against the cosmos a week after

Yeah, that's a good point, you guys do tend to play a pretty fast paced offense. I can't decide if that would make him an awful fit or if having a big power forward up front would be an asset for you.

Did Anybody watch tonight's episode? How was it? My Dvr once again didn't record it...

my DVR was so good that it caught the ending of the WNBA game before too :D ...

it was an allright episode. just showed them with 50 cent, doing interviews in NY, beckerman being told to pretend he will win the world cup, and it made Chandler look like a fool during the Turkey game.

Further confirmation from Portugal that Cristiano is having an issue with his patellar tendon. He also has a muscular problem with his thigh.

Holy crap, we may just get lucky. Horrible news, I hope he gets better and all that but this may help us make it out of the group.

You need to make a big signing? Shieeeeet. The only DP we have is Valeri, and he definitely is not a big money DP. He's the kinda "just barely a DP" DP. I hope to GOD that Lescott signing goes through because our backline is TERRIBLE and the way the league is starting to pan out having a good backline is going to be more important than ever.

I hope he gets better soon. And by soon, I mean within the next couple months. Definitely not within the next month.

Honestly, it's a let down for me if he cannot play. I want to see this guy in person. I want to see the US beat him.

I know exactly what you mean. But if I had to chose seeing him play in person next week and us getting out of the group, well I want us going to the knockout stages.

Hey, even though the World Cup starts in about a week, the USA-Portugal game is almost three weeks away, so you might still have your chance, if Ronaldo recovers in time.

Orlando City ownership sold their USL Pro license to Louisville who will begin as Louisville City FC starting in 2015. If the MLS/USL Pro affiliation continues, they'll be Orlando City's affiliate.
