Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

My friend got me Pit for Christmas in store, and that was because I told him by chance I already got Fox from another friend, so he returned the Fox he got me and found that by pure luck.

I also goofed and got two Captain Falcon's, so I'm hoping I can trade one for Lucario when he releases.

Ouch, but Fox is considered rare now. But then I guess it was a good trade-up, you needed a Pit which is rare as well.

I was just about to give up on the hunt when i saw WFT show up as in stock at my local Target on the tracker. It had been showing out of stock for the last month, so I was hopeful it might be a return.

So far, I've had no luck using the tracker so my expectations weren't too high. Turns out, there were actually TWO in stock! Hopefully will be a nice surprise for my cousin when I give him the extra! Of course, now that I found WFT, I can't give up on Marth and Villager so easily...

Also, for anyone in that area, Turnersville, NJ Target has a Fox sitting on the shelf.

EDIT: NVM

2nd EDIT:

Pit and Captain Falcon came today. Now I'm nine Amiibo's into my collection. I fear I'm past the point of no return.

If you and/or you cousin decide to open them, check out the number on the bottom, and see if it matches the two numbers on this spreadsheet. If isn't 344 or 354, depending on how high it is, it could be a sign of a restock. I'm guessing NOS, but you never know!

I got my Captain Falcon from TRU today. For comparison, Wal-Mart shipped my Pit in a nice box with bubble wrapping inside.

However, TRU sent my Captain Falcon in a padded envelope (?!?). I take my amiibos out of packaging, but Falcon's cardboard is bend in the top left corner. Not good for a collector.

I'm very concerned about my Lucario pre-order because this seems to be the norm for TRU. I wonder if I can e-mail them and request that it be shipped in a box.

Welp, just got an email from Play-Asia saying that my Villager order was cancelled since production was stopped.

Thank god I took no chances and asked a fellow GAFer (Sphinx) to get me one along with Marth when the opportunity was there, phew!

It'll hurt to unseal it, but I want it on that shelf. :D

Is nintendo really not making enough or are they selling like hotcakes?

I really wanted that little mac but BB cancelled mine.

so kinda happy.

My brother is getting me Villager and WFT from Amazon.jp, and send it over for me :D
also buying a Pit/Falcon off some guy on Kijiji.ca so the only ones I'll be missing are the store exclusives.....still pissed that both TRU and FS cancelled my Lucario and MetaKnight preorders without any kind of notice. at least I have Shulk still on my EB one and hopefully will have a chance to go to Target on release day to get Rosalina/Luma

I have received 3 of the 4 Pits that I ordered. Just some background, I had one preorder for BB in-store but got nervous and panic ordered backups from Amazon, TRU, and GS as they became available for limited times and fellow Gaffer gave me heads ups on here. Just a summary of packaging from the 4 major retailers.

1. BB in store pickup had a sticker on the back and a coupon staples to it. So that was the worst shape if you are a collector and care for boxes.

2. Gamestop was amazing packaging. Larger box and a bunch of air pockets.

3. Amazon same as GS. Box was a bit smaller and rereasonable. Great shape.

4. TRU is still on the way. Slowest delivery and I haven't heard great things about small bubble mailers. Will update when I get it.

Made my fellow local Amiibro pretty happy today. Always a nice feeling

WOW

Prolly Christmas returns from kids who were wtf this is a stupid character. Much like my reaction seeing them as the only characters left for sale late on release day. Still mad at myself since I passed.

2 Captaion Falcons due to be delivered tomorrow Amazon is right on time with those from a couple days ago.

TRU has been a hit or miss.

Captain Falcon came in a bubble mailer. Zelda came in a box made for 5 amiibos.

My collection is just lumped together on my window sill. Gotta figure out something to display them better there. Took a picture and there's a bunch just hiding behind other you can't even see.

They sell out quite fast because supply is extremely limited. Believe it!
That is because Pit, Captain Falcon, and Little Mac are not known to many people who are just casuals. Nintendo is pushing out multiple Mario Kirby and Pikachu because they are more iconic to the public eye and are more likely to get purchased more than a Marth figure. That is just how it is and you can't blame Nintendo for thinking the smaller franchise figures would not sell as well. It is basically collectors and resellers that search for the rare ones. So you need to deal with it.

Does make me wonder how well Fit, Villager and Marth would sell if supplies were equal across the board. But apparently, Nintendo was smart enough to know which characters would be popular and not, though they obviously overestimated Peach, while underestimating the Unholy Trinity (to whatever extent).

They didn't underestimate the holy trinity that is just what collectors like to think.

Marth and Villager yes. WFT not so much. She was only snapped up once people added her to being scarce. She was available in stores the longest compared to the other 2.

Yeah that's why I didn't see a single one in Canada from day one.

They clearly underestimated them.
You need to take in account of collector's before amiibo came along that purchase these. IDK how many times I have read where someone buys one and wants them all well there you go. It is collectors that like to think the holy trinity was underestimated. That is just fact. A kid will likely ask for a Mario than a Marth that is how it is and that is how Nintendo visioned it.

It is also easily agreeable why Nintendo packed in 1 villager 1 wii fit and 1 Marth per box. Since you are collecting them you would not agree but if you were in Nintendo's shoes you would agree.

Marth, Wii fit, and villager were not going to sell well they will only sell quite a bit now because they are "rare" when people buy something just because it is "rare" and they don't really appreciate the item disgust me. Because you had no interest purchasing the item in the first place before you found out it is rare.

That is how it is.

I don't think I've ever seen a Marth. Villager and Trainer, yeah, for a few weeks after launch. But never Marth.

Finally heard back from the Japanese eBay seller I ordered Villager from. Even though the "estimated delivery" date range ends tomorrow, they say I should wait until the 20th or so. Apparently eBay covers you for up to 30 days from the last estimated date, so I guess I wait.

Might as well, since the price has doubled since I ordered.

I'm sorry but Marth has been one of the most popular Super Smash Bros characters since Melee, even though Fire Emblem isn't very popular here.

Villager himself isn't very popular but the Animal Crossing series has a huge fanbase here in NA.

As for Wii Fit Trainer, no doubt that she's the least popular character among the fans. However, it would make sense to have more of her to have a better distributed gender ratio.

It's just stupid to advertise all Amiibo and the content they unlock when you can't even get half of them in stores. I'm sure there are many, many kids that couldn't find the characters they wanted for Christmas, and they probably just spent their money elsewhere because of that, or by buying the figures they couldn't find to the scalpers.

Anyway, I wonder what Nintendo is going to do when Mario/Link/Pikachu are not selling well anymore.

Announce the game that will use them all legitly.

They didn't make the figures for fanbases and Mario/Link/Pikachu not selling? There is a reason why they made so many in the first place. If you are a fan of villager you would have had him day one. Most of the people searching for these 3 are just on the rare train to complete their collection. It is fact. Nintendo's plan is easy to understand. It is collectors that like to complain they released too little of some certain no name character.

I meant the day these 3 start not selling well (might be in a few months). By the end of the year, are we gonna see the same 8-10 figures on the shelves, out of 49 characters?

And like I said, I didn't see a SINGLE Marth/Wii Fit Trainer/Villager in stores since day one. Obviously I should've preordered them, but it's still stupid to have them all gone since day one and not restocking them at least once.

wouldnt be surprised if by the end of the year the whole smash line was aleady phased out to make room for whatever nintendo does next with amiibo/

Money is finite. Some people don't like to buy more than needed at one time. You can't blanket statement that everyone who wants the figures now are just jumping on a bandwagon. I honestly expected to be able to get all of my favorite characters months down the road, so I waited 'til my budget was back in order... Now, here I am accepting that I'm likely never going to get Villager. :|

Nintendo has 49 characters to keep track of and to release they are long gone unless they do the card idea for game content. It is the same deal but just not owning the figure. So now it is just about owning the particular figure for collection purposes.

So to sum it up if anyone was one of those people who thought they could just be fine buying the characters they wanted then learned certain ones are becoming rare and are on a mission to complete your set.

Well I am afraid you are shit out of luck getting these certain rare figures that you had no intention on buying for market price.

Getting the smash bundle and gamecube adapter was hard enough what makes you think amiibos were going to be any different? Nintendo stuff of this caliber is a given fact it was going to be more popular than the game itself.

Think about it 49 realistic smash trophies to display of every character playable in the game almost. It is a Nintendo fan's dream to have this opportunity.

Yeah but he wasn't your top favorite that is your loss and not Nintendo's fault at the slightest.

Got home from work to see packages in my room. Thanks Amazon. That's it for Wave 2 I guess. Nothing else worth interest for me.... Sorry Diddy and Luigi, it wasn't your time.

I'd love to just forget about Amiibos for a while, but I know that as soon as I stop looking at this thread, there will be a restock of Marth and Villager somewhere, wave 3 will be announced and sell out on all retailer sites and Rosalina will be up for preorder for a full day on Target.com.

All on the day I stop following this thread.

Exactly, I don't like buying tons of these things at once. I need to space them out between paychecks. Just imagine if Disney Infinity had the same model as amiibo right now. I'd have to buy all 20 figures or whatever it was at launch out of FEAR I'd never find them again?? Yondu is coming out for Disney Infinity this year. He is a pretty unpopular character compared to others. I guarantee I'll still be able to get him months down the road after his release. Heck I can still find Barbosa from the first game, another unpopular character who, by nintendo logic, should have been short shipped.

Eh, I caved for more...

It's been almost two weeks since I had this EBgames gift card my mother gave me for Christmas. I've been to some stores during all my holiday vacations and bought jack with it, because there's basically nothing worth my interest at EBgames most of the times nowadays, except a Peach amiibo, heh.

Now I pre-ordered Sheik, Bowser and Toon Link and I'm done with it. As if I was in some hurry to spend it. :lol

I have a problem.
