Why not see if there's a UK GAFer who you could tie up with to ship one to you? P&P to the US isn't too crippling on top of the Nintendo shop prices, and if you can find someone you can trust it could work. I did something similar with Club Nintendo stuff before and it worked out fine, so it's maybe worth considering.

Mario Series has a confirmed date of March 20th for North America, so I see those going up for pre-order before Wave 4.

I've decided for myself that a criteria for buying an amiibo is that it must be compatible with at least one game I own (generic perks like the random items in Hyrule Warriors don't count). In the long run that should prevent me from going overboard and buying too many of them, I hope. Although so far only Toad fails to meet that criteria.
