I totally understand the community aspect. I really do. We have "enablers" and "support groups" in the FigureGAF thread, and it's all in good fun. I just don't want this silly hobby to effect people's real life negatively. They're just plastic toys, after all.
If you try, and try, and try to get something, and you don't get it, maybe it's not meant to be. It's probably easier with Amiibos as these don't hurt your wallet as much, but they definitely shouldn't hurt your mind, so-to-speak. The second you're not having fun more than you are is the time when you need to step back, reflect, and realize it's not wurf.
Not directed at you, just general advice from someone who has seen people go down this path and end up miserable.
I can imagine the kind of issues that come up with collecting (the addictive nature behind it for some folks). I just wanted to say, I would never enable someone to buy something. People should ONLY spend money they have (within their means) and spend what they want to spend. My assumption is that, everyone here is of their own free will. And are only spending the money they have, and want to spend.
I myself, am not a collector. I've never collected figurines. I don't plan on doing that even after this. I'm just collecting Amiibos for fun, because I. I love nintendo and II. It's really helped me keep my mind off of things. I agree that no one should be going bankrupt obsessing over getting every single thing (if they can't afford it). It's also not worth it, if people are stressing out and not being happy as a result of trying to get everything.
I again, would never enable that. I again assume that, everyone is here with good intentions and no one is forcing themselves to collect beyond their means, or doing so in spite of their health.
I really don't know what else to say. The only thing I can say for myself is that, I'm here to help anyone out that needs help collecting. If someone can't fin an Amiibo, I'll try to help them find it. I myself am in a great place financially (like a really really good place), SO i'm able to spend a lot of money. I do so, because it makes me happy to make others happy. It's why I've spent money buying people amiibos, and giving it to them 100% free.
But that is my own intentions. I know your post wasn't directed at me. But I can only speak for myself and say: I. I'm not spending money that I don't have, and it's not hurting me. II. I'm no stressed or having any emotional damage as a result of wanting to collect everything. III. Collecting Amiibos has actually been a lot of fun for me and my GF, and has provided a lot of relief from my other issues I had going on related to my cancer.
I guess really, it's up to each individual to make sure they don't stress out, spend more money then they have. But I would never enable or tell someone to spend money they don't have, or become stressed out because THEY HAVE to have them all.
I would hope that, everyone in this community is NOT buying things, just because they want to fit in or feel good about being apart of a community. Whether you have 1 amiibo or every amiibo, you are apart of this community. You don't need to collect every amiibo to be apart of this Community.
I just want people to have fun and be happy. And ultimately, I assume (and hope) people are responsible to what they know they can afford, and what makes them happy or unhappy. I can only speak for myself and take care of myself. And I think ultimately, that is all anyone can do (personal responsibility lies on the individual). But as far as I can tell, I've seen no one in this thread pushing them to buy things they don't want (or to buy everything to fit in, or feel like they belong).
I've seen plenty of people here ONLY want to buy the Amiibos they want. Not everyone here is trying to go for the complete collection. I think it's only a small minority. And I would again assume, these people have the means to do so (financially) and aren't stressing themselves out or causing any harm emotionally themselves. I know that is my case, and I hope that is true for anyone else trying to complete the Smash line.
