Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

Heh I'm fine in real life. Just being over dramatic. I don't feel confident at all though going into Wave 3. I almost feel like I should give up and accept I won't be able to get all the smash Amiibos.

Lol just all the scattered release dates. The lack of info. The fact that all my pre orders were done on Gamestops site and set up for in store pick up. I just get the feeling im going to miss out on a handful of Amiibos.

The worst part is just like having no idea when I should be going to the stores to attempt to even buy them. Like Shulk is Feb 20th now wtf Bowser, Mega Man and others are delayed to the 6th, the 20th. Ugh screw these scattered release dates.

If I were you Azula, I'd start to get real chummy with your local gamestops employees.

Plenty of the people in the Google DOC are of this mindset. I think, quite a few in this community are willing to swap 1:1 to try to complete their collection, as well as others. I think for a lot of people on here, they aren't collecting to make money, or because of HOW rare something is. They are more of the mindset of, wanting to complete their set because they enjoy displaying the (or actually using them).

So you should be able to find people to swap with you. I know I will (I'll be getting extras in Wave 3, to help others fill their collection out. I'll be giving them out free, just asking people to pay it forward to other members. But in the case that I'm missing some for my own collection, I will swap regardless of rarity).

Exactly. That's why I'm looking for few extra amiibo for some people really need it or so.

I would love to finish my collection, and I would love to help out other people to finish their collection as well. I already helped out other two people so far.

All I'm missing from wave 3 (not pre-ordered) is Meta Knight and Rosalina. Hopefully that can cut down on my stress.
No, your missing ALL OF THEM.

At any second of any day, you could receive a email of cancellation, even if its from a site you've trusted forever, or your local GS might not get enough, all because of the evil NOA.

NO PREORDERS ARE SAFE. NONE.

The scary reality we all need to face!

I'm going to collect the entire Smash line, I've already made up my mind. Won't collect every Amiibo beyond that though (they will be endless by that point). I've made this a personal hobby and it makes me super happy. And I love my display.

I think, the whole "stress" and stuff seems worse than it is. I'll dial it back in the thread. In real life I'm okay lol, really. I actually am having a lot of fun talking to this community. Organizing the google doc. Reaching out to people and helping get people missing Amiibos. Me and my GF are having a good time collecting.

I should say for me, the reason I started collecting, is because it's kept my mind off my PTSD/Depression from my remission. I beat cancer after a year long battle. But was struggling with PTSD after remission. So my GF suggested I get into collecting this, as a fun activity to do with her. And collecting them has made me super happy (as is, being apart of this community).

So I'm determined to get every single Smash one! :P

EDIT: I do get your point though. Ultimately, it shouldn't be stressing you out or hurting your wallet. There is a "sane" limit to collecting. And there is definitely wisdom to collecting the things you actually want, vs trying to be a completionist. But I have my heart set on completing the Smash line at least, no matter how crazy that is.

So to be clear, anything I post in this thread (in terms of being stressed or paranoid, or worried about Wave 3's terrible release)...it's not that bad in real life. I promise. :P

I totally understand the community aspect. I really do. We have "enablers" and "support groups" in the FigureGAF thread, and it's all in good fun. I just don't want this silly hobby to effect people's real life negatively. They're just plastic toys, after all.

If you try, and try, and try to get something, and you don't get it, maybe it's not meant to be. It's probably easier with Amiibos as these don't hurt your wallet as much, but they definitely shouldn't hurt your mind, so-to-speak. The second you're not having fun more than you are is the time when you need to step back, reflect, and realize it's not wurf.

Not directed at you, just general advice from someone who has seen people go down this path and end up miserable.

You guys trying to collect them all just need to stop. :lol

Stop obsessing. You don't need every one. You don't even need a majority. Get the ones you want, and if they're hard to come by, oh well. As a figure collector, and one who only collects one line (much like Amiibos), I'm begging for your sanity to just let it go.

It's not worth it, and you'll be much happier.

Any tips on where to go to acquire a reasonably priced captain falcon? I've been checking local targets, best buys and toys r us for weeks now and still no dice.

It seems he pops up every now and then on Amazon, TRU supposedly restocked/put Falcons since the 15, but seems to vary between stores.

Get this, I actually played through the first Earthbound on an emulator on my PSP! See Sony and Nintendo, you can be friends.

I just did that a month ago on my iPhone SNES emulator connected to my PS3 controller via ControllersForAll. See Sony, Nintendo, AND Apple can be friends hahaha

I can imagine the kind of issues that come up with collecting (the addictive nature behind it for some folks). I just wanted to say, I would never enable someone to buy something. People should ONLY spend money they have (within their means) and spend what they want to spend. My assumption is that, everyone here is of their own free will. And are only spending the money they have, and want to spend.

I myself, am not a collector. I've never collected figurines. I don't plan on doing that even after this. I'm just collecting Amiibos for fun, because I. I love nintendo and II. It's really helped me keep my mind off of things. I agree that no one should be going bankrupt obsessing over getting every single thing (if they can't afford it). It's also not worth it, if people are stressing out and not being happy as a result of trying to get everything.

I again, would never enable that. I again assume that, everyone is here with good intentions and no one is forcing themselves to collect beyond their means, or doing so in spite of their health.

I really don't know what else to say. The only thing I can say for myself is that, I'm here to help anyone out that needs help collecting. If someone can't fin an Amiibo, I'll try to help them find it. I myself am in a great place financially (like a really really good place), SO i'm able to spend a lot of money. I do so, because it makes me happy to make others happy. It's why I've spent money buying people amiibos, and giving it to them 100% free.

But that is my own intentions. I know your post wasn't directed at me. But I can only speak for myself and say: I. I'm not spending money that I don't have, and it's not hurting me. II. I'm no stressed or having any emotional damage as a result of wanting to collect everything. III. Collecting Amiibos has actually been a lot of fun for me and my GF, and has provided a lot of relief from my other issues I had going on related to my cancer.

I guess really, it's up to each individual to make sure they don't stress out, spend more money then they have. But I would never enable or tell someone to spend money they don't have, or become stressed out because THEY HAVE to have them all. I would hope that, everyone in this community is NOT buying things, just because they want to fit in or feel good about being apart of a community. Whether you have 1 amiibo or every amiibo, you are apart of this community. You don't need to collect every amiibo to be apart of this Community.

I just want people to have fun and be happy. And ultimately, I assume (and hope) people are responsible to what they know they can afford, and what makes them happy or unhappy. I can only speak for myself and take care of myself. And I think ultimately, that is all anyone can do (personal responsibility lies on the individual). But as far as I can tell, I've seen no one in this thread pushing them to buy things they don't want (or to buy everything to fit in, or feel like they belong).

I've seen plenty of people here ONLY want to buy the Amiibos they want. Not everyone here is trying to go for the complete collection. I think it's only a small minority. And I would again assume, these people have the means to do so (financially) and aren't stressing themselves out or causing any harm emotionally themselves. I know that is my case, and I hope that is true for anyone else trying to complete the Smash line.

So bizarre. So Meta Knight is Jan 30th/Feb 1st? Wat. What the fuck.

Why are all these release dates all over the place. Guess I'll try to hit up Best Buy on the 1st after Target. So far we have:

Meta Knight: Jan 30th
Rosalina: Feb 1st
Bowser: Feb 6th
Shiek: Feb 6th
Toon Link: Feb 6th
Ike: Feb 20th
Sonic: Feb 20th
Mega Man: Feb 20th
King Dede: Feb 20th
Lucario: Feb 20th
Shulk: Feb 20th.

WHAT DA FUCK.

Amazon is probably going nuts with this. The only positive I can think of is that I won't have my card charged all at once for them.

This is Nintendo's way at getting back at everyone that said their products sucked.

Wait, are those dates official or just word of mouth? :o

Wal Mart sent out emails delaying certain Amiibos to the 6th and 20th. Meta Knight on the 30th is from Canada Best Buy. So I guess official? Who knows what each retail release date is. I'm going to show up on the 1st and go to each store. But we have a bunch of scattered release dates. Could be that each retail has their own dates. The majority of the dates I posted are official from Wal Mart.

*made myself an amiibo avatar, can I be part of your clique please?*

The only Wave 3 amiibo I have preordered is Toon Link and it's too late to preorder some of them from other places yet, still going to try my luck on Friday at my local TRU.

All the Wave 4 amiibo aren't available for preorder on Game now otherwise I would've preordered them. Not sure why you guys in the US have preordered them there when you'll be paying extra for delivery. They should be up on US sites soon right?

Still waiting for them all to be put up on Amazon UK as well as the Captain Toad bundle.

so looks like Target is starting to remove displays now
just went into mine out of curiosity, and they removed the amiibo display
just pegs now

Cool avatar.

I'll still be sticking to my original plans for Feb 1st, just to be sure. I really wanna avoid missing out on any others.

I'm a part of AC-Gaf and missing out on Villager kind of hurt the most. :(

As I mentioned earlier, the guy at TRU the other day told me that they have a TON of amiibo in the back dated for February 1st. I am going to TRU on the 1st and I expect to see nearly all of them there.

Let's think, guys, how reliable as Walmart been for you during your hunts? How many times are those pegs filled with amiibo?

For me, TRU is the best place to find amiibo. Walmart is hardly an option.

I went to Walmart yesterday to buy some sculpey, I went to the amiibo part and it was. .. 3 Marios, 2 Yoshis, a Peach, and 2 Kirbies with busted boxes.

Yeah, Walmart is awesome for preorders online... but the last resource in-store.

Now that I think of it, Walmart only had Luigi and Zelda at stores, what are the odds they may get the rares later?

Day 1 of Wave 1... I went to Target incidentally to buy Pokemon. I browsed the Amiibo section out of curiosity more than anything else. "Oh neat, Villager and Samus look cool!". And so I bought them and them only, not knowing it would be the only time I'd ever see the likes of Wii Fit Trainer, Marth, and even Fox. At that point though, the darkness hadn't yet grown.

Fast forward to Wave 2. I'm home on break, and while my family and I are out shopping one night, I convince them to tour all of the usual suspects. Target. TRU. GameStop. Wal Mart. Best Buy.

I walk out with a Mario and Luigi only... because again, the darkness hadn't fully grown. No Pit, Mac, or Falcon in sight... but right now I'm not kicking myself for jumping on Diddy and Zelda.

Wave 3 though... that bastard of a release better watch out, because I'm gunning for it. It's a huge pain in the ass for me to go shopping, because I live in a large city without a car. But I've already looked up the routes... February 1st I'll be taking a two hour roundtrip train ride to one target, and depending on my luck there, a separate 70 minute roundtrip to another. Rosalina will be mine. I'll play the same game that Friday in hopes of securing my Tooniest of Links. After that, I'll really be feeling it, so I'll be poised to have my luck strike again and lead me to a Shiek, poised beautifully right next to Toon Link.

And then vengeance will have truly become mine. With it's nebulous powers shall I conjure forth a Pit, a Mac, and a Falcon in front of mine very eyes, so my collection can grow into one befitting a king.

Mwarharhar.

Walmart is always a last resort for me (not just with amiibo - EVERYTHING). It's no surprise that their selection is among the worst in my experience. Best Buy gives them a run for their money sometimes, but then again BB hardly ever has customers. At least, in my area. =P

I went to Walmart yesterday to buy some sculpey, I went to the amiibo part and it was. .. 3 Marios, 2 Yoshis, a Peach, and 2 Kirbies with busted boxes.

Both Wal-Marts near me have absolutely abysmal stock and displays and their employees literally don't give a damn if you ask for help.

No, your missing ALL OF THEM.

At any second of any day, you could receive a email of cancellation, even if its from a site you've trusted forever, or your local GS might not get enough, all because of the evil NOA.

NO PREORDERS ARE SAFE. NONE.
I've pre-ordered every single figure at GameStop, and I have gotten them all. Have other people here had store pre-orders cancelled?

My amiibo lust is growing...

I originally only wanted my 4 captains, but now Codename STEAM makes me want all the FE characters (except Marth), and I need a Deeds for rainbow curse, and of course I need Ness (one of my mains).

I wouldn't call it out of hand yet...

I'll eat a hat if my TRU preorders come through. The only reason I ordered was because of the discount they were offering for the previous screw-ups.

I just had a thought...

Are there any Amiibros or Amiigals in Chicago that want to meet up with me Feb 1st to go hunting?

Just hit me up via PM if anyone out there is in the city and thinks that would make search less soul-crushingly terrible. Misery loves company, after all.

Cool. So it's only Wal Mart that has delayed shipping. That's cool. So wait Shulk is def Feb 20th corrct? It's GS Only.

I'll go on the 1st and assume all Amiibos are out that day since so many think the 6th/20th are Wal Mart only delays.
