To be fair each time there's a photo of Marth face it's like a super close-up at x4 the size of the figurine's face. Not the best way to really evaluate it.
I'll try post a pic of mine later, it doesn't look like that. I've found two types so far in different stores.

(I wouldn't replace AC villagers by nintendo characters, anyway, I think they would feel out of place)
Picked up a Pikachu last night. Had my younger brother swap them out while in line at GameStop because the one I had in-hand had paint issues on its face upon further inspection. He gets the only other one and says, "That one looked like it had battle scars though, this one just has a scar on its butt -- it just has a buttlescar!"
Our Pikachu Amiibo is named Buttlescar.

You would probably just get furniture themed after the Amiibo...like maybe virtual Amiibos to display in your Animal Crossing house.
That'd be kinda neat.You take your amiibo, take to a friends house, team up with your amiibo vs your friend and their amiibo.
The Winner gets amazing bragging rights not possible in any other game

For some reason when I go to Best Buy and they bring up my Rewards account it doesn't show that I have GCU for some reason. If I buy stuff on the website, it automatically applies my GCU credit, but not in store. I also only have 1 rewards account which is tied to my BBY credit card, which is what I bring up online so it's not an issue of me linking my GCU to a different account. Not sure what the issue is, but maybe that's what happened with you.
Marth just looks plain terrible. If it's not his face then it's his chunky hair. Problem is that for the normally proportioned characters their heads end up being small, so any deviation on their facial prints will quickly make them look weird.
The more cartoony characters have big heads where being half a millimeter off won't be very noticeable.
On another note; my Pikachu, Kirby, and Samus are en route from Amazon, and I picked up Link today at my local toy store. It's a small toy store, but the only one in a small town of 23k people. Couldn't find Amiibos at first, even looked near the Skylanders/Infinity section. An employee showed me where the last Amiibo was - I was looking in the right place, but it all the way at the bottom, hanging in the back of the shelf. They told me they got 12, so basically just one complete series 1 set. Definitely needs to have more store presence.

At the end i got 4 of them. Media markt only had a few left, and they said they will have more in stock next week. Seems they got 2 boxes (every box comes with 5 amiibos of each character of that wave).
Marios and Pikachus where the ones that still had like 6 left. The rest ranged from 1 to 2 left, and Samus, Link, Kirby, Pit and Fox were already sold out.
They were goups of people getting already amiibos when I was there, and somebody got a good looking Peach 1 minute before I arrived and left a shitty one on the shelve
At the end I only got there Mario and the last Villager.
Then a friend went to the carrefour near my home and I told him if he saw any amiibos there he called me. He did that and said he was just seeing the clerk unboxing the first wave (said she didnt had time and space for them in all day). Seems like they got only 1 box, but my friend could look to each 5 character groups and I told him to get the best fox and samus he could see, so thats what we got.
So the figures I have are in perfect condition, with no paint problems at all. What I saw is that it was easier to find better paint jobs that the disney infinity figure, but the models of human characters in DI are much better thanks to the proportions (the tiny faces of the amiibos are a serious issue), while the cartoony amiibos are of the same quality as the the DI ones.
I actually think that the next non smash collections need to go the same route as DI and model them so they look good as figures instead of using the actual 3D model like smash.
Only used Mario's amiibo for training in smash but at level 30 he is already kicking my butt and is much more intelligent (and something tells me he does more damage something I dont really like) than a level 9 cpu.

I really hope amiibo in Mario Party simply lets you bring that character into the game. For a game like that there's no reason not to.

Mine has the same issue. Although it is rare so who cares if it is a bit derpy.

Samus is quite sober, some minor paint problems. The other one there was visibly leaning to the side. I called mine Crawly.
Mario looks very nice, nice figurine. Fox and DK are pretty perfect, too.
There don't seem to be a lot that could go wrong with Pikachu because it's so basic, but because of this you can notice the seam on his right side. Other than that, it looks so stupidly cute and happy.
Yoshi shows some seams, too.
Villager's eyes are perfectly aligned.

Online retailers have changed their dates from December 31 to December 14, which is a Sunday, lines up with Nintendos releases on Fridays and Sundays.
No official word from Nintendo however.

Something I dont really like is the price. 13 euros for each figure everywhere while Disney Infinity ones cost 9 a pop in Mediamarkt.
The need to lower down the price to 9 or they are going to struggle against Skylanders and DI figures on future christmas.

Sure, I know. Personally though, I'm trying to only buy games' 'main' character to limit myself on these.* Pokemon Trainer would have fit the bill nicely and looked more at home with most of the other figures in scale. I guess I'll opt for Charizard as my Pokemon rep.

GAME had a few in stock, but had sold out of many of the popular characters just due to a very limited supply.
Toys R Us.. had a display! Of sorts. I mean, they'd put them out at least!
Though this of course pales in comparison to their Skylanders and Infinity display.

This may be our next Mario Amiibo, he is used a lot on Nintendo's Amiibo website for examples of their use
