Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

Genuinely the most painful-to-watch Kickstarter I've seen thus far.

I can't disagree with this. There were a couple moments I thought it was fairly likely, but many more times I thought it would be impossible.

In the end, I think the deciding factor is going to be previous backers upping their donations rather than new backers. It's hard for me to gauge how it's going to look on Friday at 5pm EST, as people can be really unpredictable. I can't help but check its progress constantly though.

I really wish I was independently wealthy. I would love to pick 5 songs for the game.

I plan on watching and upping if the mood strikes.

We're at roughly 50% of the total amount needed. If we need to rely on the average pledger to literally double their pledge, we're screwed

If this gets funded, I will mark the final day of this KS as a holiday in my calendar.

Republique was a close call. I had lost hope that the game would get funded but then there was a surge in pledges in the last two days.
Republique made it because the announced a PC version. Which has yet to materialize. Only kickstarter (out of 30+) I regret backing.

Aside from the first sentence being kinda false (this is almost certainly going to be the highest funding day since Day 1), I don't get the need to downplay a $7500 bump. Whether it came from 1000 people or one person, it's still $7500 closer.

True, any money is good money, but I hope that it's truly bringing more interest instead of just a couple big hitters...unless those big hits can get it funded, of course. I feel like the KS has dried up in bringing in new backers

Also, the KS went up only $2,000 since the last time I posted (1 hr)

It actually does matter. 1000 people is a sign of increased attention & momentum; 1 person is a blip.

So far today it's made it to $43k off 239 new pledges. That's the sixth highest number of new pledges since the campaign began, but already the third best day in revenue. The latter would be true even if you remove the $7500 pledge, though it would be much closer to the second day's take. So it's not exactly a blip. That said, the numbers suggest that either new pledgers are buying into higher tiers than before or that a significant number of existing pledgers are already starting to up their commitments.

Same here. One of the rare times I let myself fall for the hype barrage.

I still check this thread for the vain hope of a PC announcement. I guess they couldn't convince Sony to make it happen.

I think there's more money to be found in getting the hardcore fans to up their pledges than attracting another 7/8k people. But it will of course have to be some combination of both for a chance at success.

With only 4 days left, there's nothing short of a miracle that can save this. And it kills me, because Amplitude is one of my favs from that era of gaming. Frequency a bit moreso, but that's all nitpicking at this point.

I’m a sucker for vinyl so I’m strongly considering making a pledge for the admittedly STEEP $200, I really wish they’d slightly lowered the pledge to get the vinyl but anyway, are all the other benefits included? Usually this is listed in the pledge and I had a cursory look but I’m at work right now so it’s a little dangerous to comb through the website right now. Also is there any chance they might still mess with these rewards like lowering the requirement for the vinyl? It would be a bit disingenuous to previous backers though so I can’t imagine they’d to that, confirmation would be nice though!

Twice now I've upped my pledge, not for the rewards but just because I want this game so damn much. =\
I appreciate your enthusiasm in particular, but I can only spend so much when I do not have the nostalgia others do. I only rented / played a demo of Amplitude. And even then I may be confusing it with Frequency (but I don't think I am).

To be fair, they did say at the time it would come after the iOS version.
But yeah, it has taken them some time to get there. I think they're playtesting Ep1 on PC right now.

I was meaning in general for kickstarters, not the specific funding it's receiving right this minute ;)

this kickstarter got fuh'd hard once that "small" uproar happened with the GiantBomb dude when it paused virtually untouched for days

I highly doubt that that's the reason for the Kickstarter not doing well.

What uproar?

Alex Navarro put up an article about the Amplitude Kickstarter and some people got criticized them for it because they normally don't cover Kickstarters and Alex used to work at Harmonix. The article was removed afterwards.

So what are the chances Sony puts in the other 50%? Like thats not alot, right? Its peanuts to them? They should use some of the PS+ revenue since they arent improving PSN at all.

I understand the deal to be that the 775k Kickstarter money is the minimum they need for Sony to pick up the rest of the tab. It isn't the total needed to make the game, unless I'm missing something.

Maybe I'm just an asshole but... If I were a potential backer who was watching this stream to determine whether or not I'd want to back the Kickstarter, I wouldn't be enthused so far.

It's a very fun game, but I'm not sure a stream can convey that.

They need to start playing the insane tracks. Game gets intense fast.

It's still good, it's still good...

i find it hard to believe this has any chance whatsoever of making its goal. Its very sad especially with the latest news of artists on board.

1. No PC version.
2. Incorrect assumption Hamornix is rolling in cash after Rock Band.
3. "Why doesn't Sony just pay for it?"

They can't. Sony owns more than just the name. They own some "concepts" about the game, whatever that means.

Probably something super specific, like the concept of it being a little spaceship thing that shoots the notes.

As far as I know, Sony isn't going to be paying for any of the development. I believe Harmonix themselves would be throwing in 1mil if they got the 775k.

Apparently the Sunset Overdrive guys pledged $7,500 to get one of their songs into the game. If I heard that right.

That's what it sounded like to me

It feels like they're withholding the Vita stretch goal cause they know it's unrealistic at this point

It's not the game itself - I played the shit out of Amplitude on Insane back in the day (still do on PCSX2, mind) - but rather their presentation. It's lacking and it feels like watching a bunch of people with ADHD who just drank 6 really flat Jolt Colas. They're not doing a very good job explaining the game, they're not doing a very good job explaining how the Kickstarter will work if they reach their funding goals, and now they're telling people to go read the blog instead?

yeah but still, man, these guys are still excited, good for them, but they have to know that its a failure at this point :(

I asked about Vita, I hope they change their mind about this.

It's a stretch goal. ANNOUNCE THE DAMN STRETCH GOAL.
Anyway, I think Sony donating to the Kickstarter, if they did ( they won't ), would be a conflict of interest at best and manipulative and probably against ToS. It's paying yourself. Can you start a Kickstarter, get people to fund half of it, and then dump the rest of it yourself? No.
