Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

Just dropped $20. This is the first Kickstarter fund I've ever backed. I think a picked a great one, seeing as Harmonix is one of my favorite developers and I love Amplitude.

I mean, this article is positive (I think?), but man that fucking headline makes my blood boil.

ugh fuck. U gotta to put a Polygon warning on that man. :(

Going by the shitty clickbait headline of "fans funding a flop" its obviously not. Theres already 10,000 people that want/payed for the game. Not only that they want the game so bad they would pay $60 (avg backer price) for a $20 game. The ball will soon be in harmonix court whether they chose to make a half-assed downloadable title or give their fans a worthy sequel they have been asking for.

Amplitude and Frequency were undeniably flops.

To be honest I'm kind of doubtful about whether or not the new Amplitude will make its budget back. Hopefully it will resonate with more people since the electronic dance music scene has gotten so much bigger than it was in 2002/2003.

I enjoy Polygon but not Ben's Opinion pieces. It feels like he says it just to be a contrarian.

OT: I'm so happy this is getting close. I was very worried it was gonna miss. I own both Frequency and Amplitude but I don't own a ps2 so I have yet to play them...

Pretty excited to play a game I honestly never played in the PS2 days. As I watched the video I just think of how I want to look at that on my living room television so badly.

Really impressive to see this succeed after seeing some kickstarter flops of bigger names like defense grid 2 and outcast hd. Hope this sends a precedent for kickstarter campaigns on consoles.

All about expectations. I'm sure HMX learned from that experience as they talked about these past couple of weeks. Plus, its such a different landscape now then it was those years ago. Not only has electronic music blown up, distribution of games has changed too. Not saying this game is going to be a huge success, but it certainly wont be a flop if expectations are right.

I'm really glad they turned this around this past week. At first it didn't stand any chance, but Harmonix made some nice moves to ensure this gets funded.

To all the non-believers

As long as they don't go kill a child afterwards...

That's... a special headline.

Don't you know how Kickstarter works? They've been funded, so they don't need to make any money! They are not a greedy publisher! :P

Amplitue and fréquence may be commercial failure before because of less people who are interested in this kind of game before, but the game is critically reviewed best. Now, the people who are interested in this kind of game are huge which has been proved by the Kickstarter of 18 days for 775k of console exclusive with less install base.

Were Frequency and Amplitude not full price, retail-only games with the publisher (Sony) taking a more sizeable cut?

The retail environment is also much different today than it was back then. As a downloadable title with a long shelf life it has ample opportunity to make $1m or however much they end up spending from their own coffers over time.

The headline sucks because Harmonix has been abundantly clear they're aiming to fulfill a passion project for the studio that fans have been asking them for despite the inherent limitations, not make a hit game. The article itself is mostly about that fact (without saying much new for anyone following the story) so the "yeah, but the game is going to bomb" angle up front leaves a bad taste in my mouth for an opinion piece, much like a lot of Ben Kuchera's editorials.

Pretty sure I paid $50 for Frequency when it came out, never bought Amplitude so dunno about being full price. Good to see this almost making goal, I'll probably throw $20 at it before the funding period ends

$37370 and 25 hours left to go :D

Less than $1500 an hour needed. That's the lowest it's ever been. Used to need ~$2300 an hour to make it a day ago or so

I think we got this :)

I swear it was yesterday or the day before where it need 2700+ per hour. This turnaround is something amazing, it feels great to be a part of.

Look at it this way, the headline may get Polygon a bunch of hits but it also encourages people to prove Ben wrong. Again.

then we'll just get another article "They may have been funded but will they fall into the trap of not finishing the game after blowing all their money?" filled with charts of course.

LOL still really early for the contest?
The game and stuff is probably not coming till next year

Paid like $20 for Freq in a bargain bin. Ended up buying Amp full price $50 or $60 on day one.

What E3 announcement?

Ehh nothing. People seem to be expecting Sony to mention this kickstarter/game at E3 I think

I'm kinda amazed that a Playstation exclusive kickstarter was able to raise close to a million dollars in crowd funding.

While I don't fund kickstarters (I'm not against it, I just don't) I'll be looking to pick this game up on day one. I've never heard anything other than positive things about this series, & I loved GH/RB. It's clear that this is a passion project, and it makes me happy to see that this will probably be funded.
