Yet all three console companies have one big thing in common: they give little space to independent developers. If we believe games are culture, and hence they deserve freedom of speech, the fact that console companies are hermetic to let indies develop for them, reminds us of the time when the big film studios owned every theatre. Back then, only the films that went through the studio system could be exhibited until the Supreme Court favoured independent film makers in 1948.

Damn straight this is why i like pc gaming.

Isn't Revolution supposedly supposed to have an opening for small developers to make NES or SNES type games for download?

It's uknown as to what Nintendo's approach is going to be towards indy developers. So far it's just old classic titles for download. If Nintendo goes the MS route then that'll be even more awesome for the indy industry. As it is, MS' approach is the best thing to happen to indy dev in a long time.

WHAT??? Where did you get this rumor, I have never heard of it.

wasn't the whole reason of the rev being cheap to develop so that small development houses or indy developers could work on the revolution?

btw MS Live Arcade sounds fucking awesome.

And the best proof to show that the current generation’s “war” was nothing more than a commercial façade is that there are no big losers: Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are still alive and their market shares haven’t varied that much along the years.

Sega was driven out of the console business this gen. Why does the mainstream have such a short memory?

That's it I am getting an x360 just to support what MS is trying to do. But how do these indies go from making these $9.95 games to full fledged $50 games? Will MS publish a full fleged game when they are successful with their initial games?

This was something I hated about last gen.

Jesiatha works on the LIVE ARCADE team. Ask him he may have a clue about that.

Sega died because of them screwing up in the past, not this gen.

But why do they have to go to $50 games? I'd imagine if a developer has a great success on Arcade it'll make negotiating with publishers for future games far easier and on a more level playing field. But that's the point, with the distribution system of Live an indy dev could do well for itself sticking with $10 downloadable games. Well, that's what I hope anyway.

Agreed. I just remember seeing something that looked somewhat substantial pointing to Revolution having this function as well. Of course it is kinda hard sorting through all the crap generated in Revolution threads...
EDIT:

Ah...Glad I'm not just dreaming things up.

Looks like Finacial Times was trying to make an article with little knowledge on the subject. Not surprising though as I didn`t know about this stuff either.

Hey at least indy dev's got more GAF love. :D Start a new topic. Or bump the LIVE ARCADE thread with your ideas.
