In a USA Today story about Bob Iger taking over as CEO, an analyst makes a pitch for Disney's ESPN to "acquire World Wrestling Entertainment".
The comment came as part of a story outlining 10 priorities Iger should set for his first year. One of those priorities was "Tinker with the cable networks". ESPN is owned by Disney and has been a success, but the fear is that growth will level off as operators resist higher fees and Fox continues to expand on their sports networks.
One way to continue growth, according to Dennis McAlpine of McAlpine Associates, would be to go after WWE. "I'd like to see them acquire World Wrestling Entertainment or NASCAR if they could," said McAlpine.
