Chrome to Mobile BETA

It looks like users lucky enough to be running Google's Chrome for Android Beta now have access to another sweet treat – Chrome to Mobile Beta. Reminiscent of Chrome to Phone, Chrome to Mobile Beta is an extension for both desktop and mobile versions of Chrome that enables users to send live URLs from their computer to an Ice Cream Sandwich-powered mobile device, also allowing copies to be sent for offline viewing. The extension is available for both smartphones and tablets, as long as they're running Ice Cream Sandwich with Chrome for Android Beta.
Chrome to Mobile certainly seems like it will make the Chrome experience on Android more practical and intuitive, allowing users to quickly grab a webpage, map, or video for mobile viewing on the go, and it will be interesting to see what other extensions are developed to help Chrome run seamlessly between devices.

Ugh. Looks like I am finally a victim of the developer vs amazon spat. I got pocket casts as a the FAOTD and apparently they killed support for it months ago. Being happy with the app, I never noticed all the updates the market version got until recently when the developers started blocking the amazon version from downloading anything. It can stream, but the download request is null on their end. I'm glad I'm only disappointed because if I had paid for the amazon version I would be PISSED. I read the blog and feel their pain, but the situation still sucks be cause that last move is a bit dirty as they say in the same blog that they wouldn't cripple the app. Its weird, I want to support them on market, but I feel kind of burned and don't support that behavior.

It's like why do they even have an incognito mode on a browser that doesn't have Flash?

Because there's a whole lot more to anonymous browsing than just disabling Flash?

lol. SMS Backup & Restore can browse a 4500 message thread faster than HTC's messaging app. I don't know which is more deserving: SMS B&R of my admiration or HTC of my hate.

Such a damn shame because hardware wise they make the best phones in my opinion. Solidly built, super-stylish and on-paper powerful.

Wait, what? Are you sure this is HTC you're talking about here? Nobody makes ugly square plastic phones which weigh 40 lbs. and use QUALCOMM SoCs like HTC. Even HTC themselves admit that they are at fault for their profit nosedive in 2011 and have resolved to make better phones in 2012!

I think he meant that without flash there is no porn and without porn there is no need for Incognito mode.

And I think Unknown is saying that there is a lot more uses to Incognito mode than just porn. What they might be, I haven't got a clue.

Chrome for Android is tempting me to go back to an ICS build on my Vibrant, but CM7 is running so nice that I don't think it is worth it.

The Chrome Beta is only available in some countries right now, hence your error. What country are you in?

One that is not on the list! But installing it directly through the .apk worked.

It load pages faster than stock browser for me on a Nexus S, but the scrolling stutters. The tab system is awesome though!

Uh how do I get Chrome beta to open youtube links in other apps, twitter links in other apps, and so? That's kinda an important missing functionality.

What's the resolution on this then?

Also Gingerbread is unforgivable at this point.

Not necessarily. Unfortunate though. How old is ICS? I don't think many people know how long it takes to design a mobile phone...it's up to 12 months, in most cases. These aren't dumb phones anymore.

I don't care, I mean it's unforgivable from Google as much as LG.

It's rumoured 1024 x 768, my game appears fine on that, but its sure feels weird.

They are just covering a niche. Their flagship phones are still relatively normal sized phones.

There's no niche. They just can't make smaller screen phones with 720P or around there resolution.

Gettin my first smart phone. Can you update the OS on Android phones or are certain phones tied down w/their OS? I am hearing about some Ice Cream Sandwich shit.

It depends if you root or not. If not you are at the mercy of the carriers and manufacturers. If so then you can install unofficial custom roms (most of gaf I'd imagine). Community support for each handset varies. I think most of the popular ones have at least some form of Ice Cream Sandwich rom now, and if you aren't running ICS you are missing out. Especially now Chrome is here.

Well I just hate it adds a word when I hit backspace instead of deleting... It works fine in messaging but not in email for some reason. I love except when I sent an email with it for the first time and ran into that. Like if I click to the end to delete the last word because it chose wrong it duplicates whatever is before it.

For example:

what is ICS? My carrier is Sprint.

what is root, like installing custom firmware?

ICS is Ice Cream Sandwhich, the newest version of Android for both phones and tabs. 4.0.x version numbers, currently.

Root is just allowing your phone to have superuser permissions, nothing more.

Google Voice app updated also. Given some ICS treatment.

Notifications still look Gingerbreadish!! WTF?!
Here is what I mean:

Icon on the notification bar is still the old one, and contact pictures still don't show up when pulling down the notification drawer.

They need to follow their own ICS guidelines and update this app >_>

There might already be a "notifications" folder in the phones directory. That's where you want to place those files. There is also a "ringtones" folder.

So I decided to get a GN. Great device overall, but I've already noticed a number of issues:

Every time a sound is played, a few seconds later there's an audible "pop" (as the speaker turns off?). Seems to be a very common problem with this phone.

The compass is off. When running Maps, it constantly points about 90 degrees away from how the phone is actually oriented.
UPDATE: The compass just seems very unreliable. Sometimes it will be off in another direction that it was previously. GPS seems really good though.

The screen seems to be slightly brighter on the right side than on the left. Not sure if this is my only screen issue; haven't done any rigoruous tests on this yet.
UPDATE: Ok, the screen is actually tinted pink along the right edge. Very clearly visible when the screen brightness is turned down.

NEW: The phone vibrates EXTREMELY loudly. It's not just a "bzzz", it's more like the phone is actually playing a tone (a G# if anyone's interested, haha).

(Reposted from the GN thread, since this once seems much more active.)

edit... RoadHazard, the phone is an insanely loud when it vibrates. Never looked at the compass on mine, and the screen issue happens on some phones it seems. If its brand new and it definitely bothers you, i would return it

Hmm, ok... It's just that I have never ever heard a phone vibrate like this before. Like I said, it's not just a "bzzz", but the phone actually generates a very clear G# when vibrating.
