My wife just upgraded to the S5 from the S3, but can't seem to figure out why group texts are not working correctly (T-Mobile)?

Everything worked fine with the S3, and we have gone into the settings and she can send a group text sometimes, but they won't thread conversations correctly. There was a thread on the Android forums regarding this, but the answer from Samsung was do a factory reset, but another poster said that didn't work.

update: when trying with Handscent, it now adds herself as a receiver of her own texts into the group. WTF is going on?

Maybe she should try Hangouts for texting. She needs to enable that send group text as MMS button.

I'll have her try Hangouts for texting, I think that was an option. So in hangouts there is a send group text as MMS?

The default messaging app didn't have any check boxes, which is weird.

Nexus 10 is far from the best one, it is from 2012 and long out of date. Rumor is Google is working with HTC on a new Nexus 8.

It is still the best one but it still isn't good.

Went out buying a new phone yesterday.

Was set on a Nexus 5 or Galaxy S4 (M8 and GS5 are too expensive).

Came home with a LG G2. Wow, for the price it offers a lot. Really like the screen.

I'm sorely tempted to pick up a G2 to play with. The form factor is still incredible, the screen is indeed lovely. They're available used here for around £230 and brand new for £290 off contract.

I've been looking into how much of the hanky LG ROM can be hidden with various apps / mods. Either that or put Paranoid Android or CM11 on it. Just unsure about camera performance with a custom ROM. That part has never been great in my experience of custom ROMs.

Downsides to the G2 would be things like the LG skin, the screen size (if 5.2" bothers you), the rear mounted buttons, the build quality.

The funny part about LG and the G2 is that they said they had done research and found that 5.2" was the absolute maximum screen size for a phone that consumers want, and less than a year later the G3 goes up to 5.5".

I picked up the LG G2 also for $250 off of craigslist. Currently using an iPhone 5s but looking forward to getting back on Android. Prior to the iPhone I was using Windows phone for about 6 months. The G2 still is comparable to the One M8 and Galaxy S5, but since LG phones don't hold their value it makes it the best value right now.

Screen size and the rear buttons are actually nice. The phone is about the size of the Galaxy S3 when I used it a few years ago but with a larger screen.

I just wish google makes nexus 6 waterproof. I also wish they make nexus mini, like moto g for example
Wow Google is going to have to come up with another name to call the Nexus phone line because if they continue with ehay they are doing today they will soon have a phone called the Nexus 7.

That top option wasn't there. We did the factory reset and now it is working...sort of.

When someone in the group replies, it goes to a separate 1 on 1 chat, to download and then appears in the group chat after a few minutes.
That's how it worked with apps like Handcent before Android officially supported group MMS. That's really strange that the S5 is doing it.

People actually use Hangouts? That's news to me.

I wish there were better kernels for the 2013 Nexus 7 (flo). Franco's is buggy as fuck and nearly bricked my N7. Elemental X is decent but hasn't been updated in a month and you can only configure it in Recovery mode. I'm really spoiled by KTweaker on my S4. Ktoonsez went all out, balls to the wall and the extra mile with his. It comes with a dedicated config app and monitoring app, the ability to enable OTA updates and even download other users custom settings , including the dev's very own. The amount of customization and shit you can change is insane. It's really easy to use and can essentially be set to auto pilot and do all the complicated and risky stuff for you.

I haven't seen other devs do this much.

Hangouts is amazing and the only correct choice.

Android app is gud, Chrome extension is fantastic. The only sensible cross-platform, full-featured, well-designed option.

Glad to hear this from someone else, Franco's N7 kernel stopped working well for me around the 4.4 release. I've left it on stock rom and stock kernel ever since.

Just use Hangouts. Handcent is garbage.

The Nexus line is roughly named after the screen size, not in sequential numbering (like the galaxy series is).

Nexus 4: 4.7"
Nexus 5: 5"
Nexus 7 (2012): 7"
Nexus 7 (2013): 7"
Nexus 10: 10"

So if the next phone is to retain a 5" screen, I'd hazard a guess that it will still be called Nexus 5.

I use Textra.

Trying out Hangouts and don't see what the fuss is all about. It's nothing special imo. I do wish it had a dark theme however.

Not all of them, so what's to stop Google from renaming the Nexus phones?

Nothing, this is just going off recent patterns. It's more likely they'd do this than start naming them sequentially, since theyve never been named sequentially after the first... although you could argue the Nexus 4 was the 4th Nexus phone.

Nexus One
Nexus S
Galaxy Nexus
Nexus 4

The fuss is that it's a solid, well rounded app that not only handles your SMS, MMS and group texting but also has a cross platform (Android, iOS, PCs) online chat with group video calling capabilities.
It's feature rich and well made. And if you don't like having your chats being synced across devices for seamless hopping between phone, tablet and PC then hope is lost for you my friend.

soo... i'm looking to get an Android phone and looking at the Nexus 5.

Main reasons being:
vanilla android installation; i'd like to avoid the hassle of manufacturer and carrier additions
$400 sounds good next to $700 iphones.

that being said, i haven't waded into the android waters so I wanna ask if there other phones I should consider?

How about the LGG2? It's big, affordable and sexy.

i like hangouts, but layout is confusing.
Contacts now are better, but still a mess. Not for me, but for the casual user, like my mother, especially if using hangouts as sms app too.

Btw, is there a way to know if a message has been delivered?¿ like whatsapp's double check

If the message has been sent the time and date is displayed below it, and the place the recipients avatar is at is where that person has last seen your messages. No delivered status I think though.

Usually there's an animation of three dots moving up and down to signal that it's in the process of sending the message. Once it's sent, it'll tell you time time/date it was sent.

Stock ROM has that awful touch lag and buggy inputs. Installing CM 11 got rid of that issue entirely. ElementalX is good so far.

I had to go into Download mode to wake up my device. It then took my N7 15 minutes to reboot after installing his kernel. I said fuck that noise.

Anyway, I finally installed Xposed Framework after waiting for no good reason. It's nice having AppOps again. I want to go on a module downloading frenzy.

that's not really what we were talking about though...
I'm just pointing out that the g2 mini and the moto x have the same screen sizes, yet no one would logically consider the moto x to be 'mini'. I'm not sure what your point is here...
Seems like it was to me, you guys were talking about how mini phones aren't the same specs as their larger counterparts except for Sony. I was just saying that Motorola also made a smaller device with the same specs as its bigger phones.

How many of you guys use cases? I ordered a Nexus 5 since I've had some issues with my Xperia Z, had a few cases but I always end up going back to using the phone naked. I'm debating getting cases for the Nexus 5 but I always get annoyed at the extra bulk most cases add onto the device, thus I go back to just using the phone without one.

I also don't use a screen protector because I don't see the point. Never had issues with my HTC Legend, S3 or Xperia Z.
I hate cases, never understood the point unless you're really clumsy. I don't drop my phone, don't drop yours. Not trying to be arrogant here, so I hope no one takes it that way.

Seconded. G2 is still easily one of the best phones out there in every aspect. Fast, great camera, amazing screen and great battery life. LG skin is ugly but is blazing fast and incredibly feature rich. KitKat helped that a little bit at least.

CamScanner vs Google Drive scan. What do you think is better? CamScanner seems to be on sale at the moment for 1$ and it's interesting me a little bit. I think it won't be on sale for soon though.
