Android users, stock or custom?

To Android users out there. How do you roll? Stock? Custom ROM? Maybe just stock + rooted? Personally I've just been doing stock+rooted on my n4.

Stock is always best.

I didn't even root my GNex.

CyanogenMOD and the like if the phone comes with a skin by default.

I customize the heck out of my phone so I can't really say stock at all. I have a 4.2 ROM installed but I don't use the 4.2 quick panel (currently using AOKPs latest JB build with some widgetsoid notification shade add-ons). Most of the visual features of my phone I'm are stock, though.

If I didn't have that, I would say that TWZ has been looking really promising lately, with the whole multi-window support they've added and the features for the s-pen.

Stock didn't get good till ICS.

If I had a choice of customizations, I'd choose Sony's over any other.

Still, JB Stock + root > all

I guess mine is custom? I'm new at this whole Android OS thing so I'm not really sure. I'm on Galaxy Tab 2 with ICS but I think there's a bit of Samsung's TouchWiz included in it? Then I run a pseudo jelly-bean launcher (Apex).

I've got stock on my Nexus 4, and would also be using stock on my Nexus 7 if I didn't dislike the normal phablet interface. So I switched to paranoid android.
As long as I get the latest version of Android, no real reason to use a custom ROM for me. Not like the 2.x times when the AOSP was missing quite a few useful stuff...

Custom on my phone because providers are too fucking slow at providing updates...

I was custom on my Nexus 7 went back to stock for now, because the rom was doing some flakey stuff...but I'll probably go back to custom at some point.

If you've got a Nexus device, stock + rooted is great. Especially since that means you can get AOSP updates from Google as soon as their available. If on a non-Nexus device, CyanogenMod is the way to go. I'm stuck with my S2 Skyrocket for a while until my upgrade, and I couldn't manage with that horrible Touchwiz. CM is a life saver. I'm not saying there aren't other great roms (I've used AOKP and Paranoid Android), but CM just has the best all around features in my opinion.

Now, as far as recoveries go, the Team Win Recovery Project is a must. It was the first touch screen based recovery, and it was recently rebuilt from the ground up to make backups and restores even faster. It's at www.teamw.in if you want to see if your device is supported.

I love the look of stock Android so I run CM10.1. The CM guys really go out of their way to keep it as close to ctock as possible whillst adding new features, thing like quick reply and now the option to have lockscreen widgets expanded by default. They also manage to fix things like the double clock on 4.2.1 lock screen. CM really is just stock but soooo much better.

With my last phone (HTC Desire), I rooted it and installed CyanogenMod because I needed to use S2E. Now I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 I haven't felt the need to root/use a different ROM. I do use a different launcher though (Apex).

Stock all the way. I don't mind Sony's skin, but the rest of them are an eyesore.

This. Sony skin is pretty much the only one not vomitive, also they have the best music player/widget, so any other than nexus you should be using CM.

Rooting is worth it just for backups and the ad block for youtube.

I was on paranoid android, and it does a few neat things, but I went back to stock for my Nexus 7 otherwise.

Quick question: is there a way to get something like that expanded desktop feature without a custom mod?

I find whatever ROM that removes bloat from the stock ROM while keeping it as stock as possible. No new features and such.

I don't think so I'm afraid

I'm using a CM10 ROM on the original HTC Incredible. It's basically stock, with a bit of bloat removed due to the age of the phone.

I always try to go custom ROM. I'm using CM10.1 nightly on my Nexus 4 right now and its kicking butt. Battery life can go 24 hours (if I'm not at work where the signal is spotty and causes my battery to drain faster). I love CM.

Sense on my HTC phone, it's so underpowered I can't be arsed changing it. Next phone will probably be a Sony, so I'll see how that looks, but probably go to stock.

Running stock at the moment as the D4 has a shitty rom scene due to moto locking the bootloader and current roms being gimped. Kinda miss jellybean features though as well as notification quick bars.

I use Custom. More features, more customization, and better overclocking abilities.

However, I just finished reading that certain processors have much less developer support than others (namely Samsung Exynos on some Galaxy phones) so if you have one of those devices, maybe going Stock would be best.

Stock + Nova Launcher

I have a G-Nex, so stock. I'd definitely be running custom if I my phone came loaded with TouchWhiz or pretty much any other manufacturer UI.

Is there any way to root and rom an evo design 4g? I have not been able to find anything about it? I hate sense and the phone but I;m stuck for another year, last time I do no research and trust moron at store, ugh

Tried using rooted stock on a Galaxy s3 for a while, switched to CM10 a couple months ago and been using that ever since. Mostly used CM on my old Evo 4g and Nexus S as well

Seems like the Design has little to no dev support. Seems to be happening with a lot of HTC phones nowadays due to their strict bootloader policy.
AT&T, the addition of LTE must have happened recently.

If you do install CM, note that it might default to the AT&T Cingular APN rather than the pta APN (required for LTE). All you have to do is connect to the pta APN and delete the others and you'll have LTE.

I only have a ZTE Blade, but installing CM was such a huge ass improvement over stock. Biggest improvement for me was having the volume buttons work while the phone is sleeping, plus being able to forward/rewind without unlocking.

Custom and rooted, but usually based on a stock rom. I want to be sure the rom works properly with all of the hardware, and want to keep it as lean as possible.

My favourite rom I've used was Chameleon on my SGS2, Samsung rom based but pretty much operated and appeared as stock jellybean.
