Angry Video Game Nerd

I just watched the Cinnemassacre documentary. Fascinating stuff. I am not into splatter horror flicks, but I should definitely check out his psychological films.

Slightly off-topic, but there's a documentary of his life as a cinematographer. It really shows just how much talent this guy has.

I really enjoyed this. Reminds me of myself and my friends growing up in middle and high school. We used the two-VCR technique and various methods of dubbing music (mainly by plugging in the audio-only of the PS1 and playing music on a CD :lol) We also made a movie in high school and showed it to a group of like 30 people and that was a great feeling. Since college we kind of just stopped because we don't have time but I can relate to a lot of things in this.

This is the only place I could think of to post it (sorry if people thought there was new angry video game nerd stuff), but there is a new Happy Video Game Nerd video out, and if you needed proof that he has amazing taste, he is reviewing Little Nemo the Dream Master: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNMx4SPvRXI

I remember loving both the movie and the game when i was a kid. I could never beat the first level of the game though...

Ugh... these copy cats seriously need to come up with something original.

Thanks for posting that. I'm a huge fan of the Happy Video Game Nerd. His reviews are always informative and, unlike the vast majority of youtube reviewers, his videos actually have some production value. Also, to label him as a "copy cat" is completely unfair, as he has a unique style that's completely different from the Angry Video Game Nerd.

He is using a remixed and reworded version of the AVGN theme though.

He's not a blatant copy cat of AVGN. He's doing something different enough to set him a part. First he's showing us good games that we probably haven't heard of from the past. Second, it's not a comedy like AVGN. He's more like a one man retronaut in video form than an AVGN copy cat.

If it wasn't for him I'd have never found out about Wild Guns or Metal Storm. Both excellent games.

It is at least different in the sense that he isnt just picking bad games and talking about how bad they are. He talks about old good games that arent very popular and almost everyone he has done so far is great (in terms of games picked)...well, with the exception of Splatterhouse, im not a big fan of those games.

Indeed, I'm actually surprised AVGN himself doesn't. He has all these posters on his wall and has all these different systems, even changed his name just for clarification but still mainly only reviews nes games.

I'd make a channel like that, if my mic wasn't totally busted out of wack. /excuse
I'm sure a company would like to tie him up with legal problems, if he tried to review say Mass Effect or Halo 3. But who knows, maybe he's waiting for a call to be an editor at Gamespot.

Metal Storm looks awesome. Such a disgrace this game doesn't have a more visible cult following. Only one person in the thread so far seems to have actually played the game. And I remember a thread asking for games built around the gravitational gameplay seen in SMG and no one mentioned this game.

Edit: No wait my memory is crap people did recommend Metal Storm in that SMG thread. Not as overlooked after all.

At first I was laughing when he was pointing with his stick and then.. I saw him! :lol:lol
I was actually like ":| What the fuck is wrong with him?" even BEFORE i saw him. :lol

That Rocky documentary seems pretty cool, i'll check it out when it's released.

Just watched it, he deserves a lot of respect for his dedication and creativity. To have been doing stuff like editing and dubbing with just a couple of VCRs, while making titles and soundeffects on the fly ... very impressive. It's a hell of a training for all aspects of film-making.

The documentary also showed me how comparatively easy I've got it nowadays, as I'm doing somewhat similar stuff (reviewing games for german television) with a lot more people and budget behind. If someone's interested, here's some of my more movie-inspired stuff:

Sci-Fi-Minimovie for Portal: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=JAeVopNAy38
