Several moderators have received several reports from several different users about this thread.
Folks, this isn't rocket science.
A good OT should:
1) Not just be a chat room of the same five people replying to each other. If you want to start a chat room, please do. IRC is always available. irc.browsingtheinternet.com is a good network. You can start a channel there. You can invite whoever you want, you can have whatever rules you want.
2) Should be friendly to newcomers, because we've had some people mention that they don't feel like they can ask questions about the game without being stared down by people who are experts. So when someone comes in and asks a question, even a stupid one, please try to help them out and make them feel welcome.
3) Shouldn't make people feel creeped out.
It's insane that a game as friendly, welcoming, and open as Animal Crossing would generate so many issues with its threads. Obviously the last thread got several warnings before it was eventually locked. And then the mod who locked it got ranted at in PM over locking it. We don't have the time or desire to police these threads more closely, we like people being able to work out their own arrangement, but it needs to be inclusive.
As a result, if we get any further complaints about this thread, we are going to be unusually severe with the bans. Particularly on the creepy / sexy / whatever stuff that plagued the pre-release thread. If you want to flirt with each other, do it in private please.
Anyone who replies to this thread with sentiments about how the people who complained are to blame is first on the chopping block -- even if someone is being unreasonable in complaining, it's still important to try to accommodate people. You'd have to basically be sociopathic to respond to a problem like this with "Who cares what they want, this thread is MINE". We try to avoid that kind of logic.
I don't have any more warnings to give. No need for apologies if you feel you've run afoul of these guidelines, just please make this not happen again. Also, this isn't a debate about policy--these are the rules. You are welcome to start your own message board. GAF is an enormous message board with many posters. That means things run differently than in a small, more intimate, less formal board. We have to make sure that a wide variety of people are accommodated. Some people might find those limitations frustrating, and I mean this in the nicest way possible--it's a function of the size of the board, and if you want a smaller board, feel free to create one.
