My lil' bro and sis both went out and got AC:NL today, as I had it since midnight release digitally.

You must befriend Sable which takes ~10 days of talking to her.

I think you have to do some of that and then save and quit.
I know I didn't finish Isabelle's tutorial stuff before I got access to the chair, I just set up my tent and did what I could last night. Woke up this morning and played again and I could get back there.

Okay, since the EU release is in a few days... is there some sort of guide of sorts out there? Like, animal crossing for newbies? Because this'll be my first AC game and I don't know what to expect. Are towns randomized? How do things work? x.x

Others have already answered but I'd also add that you can keep fishing and catching bugs. Different ones are available to catch at different times of the day.
My son's is different from mine. His museum is on the left whereas mine is on the right.
You can sell for more but also plant it for a perfect fruit tree. It will then spawn perfect fruit but they die off quickly.
EDIT: Yes you can, but it's possible that once you shake the leaves of the new Perfect fruit tree that it might die.

Just finished visiting (from JackCity). Thanks for the cherries! My first town I created and then deleted had the museum on the other side of the screen, but otherwise everything was the same.

Philia if you're here, is the reasoning behind your choice of "ideal layouts" mostly personal preference?
IMO, your choice of terrible layouts seem more interesting to me than your ideals. I do see that you are worried about space though, which is reasonable.
