Anime is only as good as it's opening song.

A recent example and one no one will agree with, but I really like Hataraku Maou's OP. Totally a "follow your dreams!" opening.

Other than that, there are way too many I love to list. I know there's other posts with OPs I love, but this was the only one I could find.

I also completely disagree with the thread title.

I always enjoyed the opening for Scryed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V40hVIQr5o

Always reminded me of the open to Orphen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvbVF2Q9qgM

Both shows I really wish I could find DVD copies of at a reasonable price. I really missed out when anime was big in the US. I had no money at all to buy the shows I really liked and wanted to see. Now that I can buy them they aren't either available anymore or at a reasonable and affordable price.

I think the most recent one that I absolutely loved was One Piece 15.

Some of the fanbase seem to dislike it compared to 14 & 16, but damn the haters.
Oh~ Roger > Shanks > Luffy transition = tears.

Then there's Sakamichi no Apollon which managed to contain both an OP and ED that I wanted to watch with every episode..

Naruto Opening 4 has never left me, after all these years. It's really nostalgic, haha.

Like OP, I really loved FMA:B's first opening. Downloaded the song and threw it in my iTunes library; good stuff.

I don't watch the show (though I used to read the manga a few years ago), but I did accidentally stumble upon Detective Conan's 25th opening and loved it. The Arabic opening is really nostalgic as well, I used to watch it during my Summers in Syria as a kid.

Digimon Tamers also had a really awesome OP, shame the American localization butchered it.

There must be a perfectly reasonable explanation why your contributions don't involve your robot avatar.
Macross 7 Seventh Moon

My favorite songs so far:

1) Freezing - Colors
2) Accel World - Burst The Gravity
3) Hunter x Hunter 2011 - Hunting For Your Dream

Funny thing is that I haven't seen any of these anime (I'm currently watching HxH 2011 though), I just love their OP songs. I'm not gonna lie though, all it takes is a good OP song to make me want to watch an anime. Btw that Hxh song isn't an OP it's an ED, I just love it so much that I had to put it before any OP I could think of.

Macross 7 Seventh Moon

I honestly forgot. :) There are times when I don't even pay attention to my avatar. I haven't watched Macross 7 in a while, I'm overdue for another rewatching to be honest.

I actually prefer Macross 7 OVA - Dynamite.

Also one of my favorite songs from Macross 7 isn't the opening it's actually Holy Lonely Night. So when I think Macross 7 I don't automatically think of Seventh Moon. I actually got sick of that song after a while during my first watching. I'm okay with it now.

The Legend of Black Heaven: Cautionary Warning

I like it because it simultaneously makes total sense as an OP while being extremely misleading about the tone of the show, given that the show is about a guy who almost made it as a rock star but has had to grow up and adjust to life as a normal salaryman (until suddenly alien hijinx need him to rock out to save the galaxy.) Plus the song itself is great.

There's a surprising amount of "no shit" omissions in this thread. Where is Anime-GAF at?

Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou - Tenshi no Yubikiri
Cross Game - Summer Rain
Eureka Seven - Days
Antique Bakery - Life Goes On as well as its equally impressive ED.
The Vision of Escaflowne - Yakusoku wa Iranai
Detroit Metal City - Satsugai

And a personal fave that not many people will like - The Tatami Galaxy - Maigoinu to Ame no Beat

The only reason this one should be included is because the anime is more solid than gold - and even that is asking too much. Outside of that, I doubt you could ever create a worthwhile OP for Mushishi. Even its EDs knew the subject was too good so they always ended it blank with a selected song from the soundtrack.

Go watch bokurano next time you find yourself saying, "All this happiness is getting tiresome. I could use some depression and sorrow."

It is a good show. I am not saying it will make you sad with badness. I mean it will suck the light from your soul.

Aye, Bloody depressing movie especially when kids are involved. Totally not cool man. Fucking amazing Anime and that Song is just icing on the cake

Never seen this anime. That's a pretty damn good song though.

Do your self a favour and watch it. Some of the best character interaction and social psychological commentary in the medium as whole. A highly impactfull show with a lot of downs

The second opening for Nichijou is fucking nuts, really reflects the the type of comedy that the show goes for.

Nichijou's openings are two of the best ever.

The thread title is incorrect, but the following are great in addition to having great OPs:

Baccano!

Baccano!'s is another great choice.

I always skip the op.

I mostly do the same for OPs unless they are very well-done. On the other hand, I almost always skip EDs with extremely few exceptions.

I normally fast forward through the openings after hearing it a few times. However I watch the opening for Martian Successor Nadesico every single time for every single episode when I sit down to watch my box set.

Yeo, that opening gets your blood pumping for sure. Makes you want to get out there and win one
for Gai :(

Forgot how much I enjoyed the opening to Rahxephon. Love that show as well.

I also really enjoyed the opening to Last Exile as well.

I never finished the series so I don't know how well it turned out but enjoyed the opening for Elemental Gelade.

However one of my all time favorites on a softer side of things is the one for Please Teacher!. The content might seem a bit out there for some but I love this show. This is the show that got me to start watching this side of anime shows. I wouldn't have watched shows like Love Hina, Ah My Goddess, and love harem shows in general. I had seen Tenchi Muyo before that this was the show that broken down the door for me. That and it's sequel.

Slam Dunk.

Manga status: godlike (I have the 31 volumes)

Anime status: meh, too slow paced. But it's the one that introduced me to Take Inoue, so it's all cool.

Absolutely love the sounds of trainers screeching the floor.

Also, the endings were so powerful:

I don't know about that theory. Attack on Titan OP is pretty good, but the anime itself is crap.

I really love the Planetes OP and I think it's one of the few OPs that do their best to highlight the show's themes.

I probably even like the ending more. But I LOVE the way he sings. WooooOOOooooOOOOoooohhhh

Also Dragonquest: Dai no daibouken

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJUeqKpReOk

Actually every old anime music excites me. It has that essence that isn't achieved nowadays.

Umi no Tritton:

And the legendary Mazinger Z:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0W9OzkIAQE

suupa roboto, mazinga zetto

The music was SO good for Kids on the Slope... I mean, the show itself was okay at best, but it's worth it for the music alone. Honestly I didn't really "get" jazz until I saw it, so big props there.

Slam Dunk's opening is impressive in that it makes me nostalgic for something I haven't even experienced.

Wow, how did I forget this show? Very simple but so very entertaining... man, I need a new sports anime to watch, it's been so long and Cross Manage is only going so far!
