Actually really surprised nobody's mentioned Space Battleship Yamato. It has the most epic opening theme that tells you exactly what you're getting into when watching the show.

The reboot, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, the op always gets you amped up to see the episode.

The Japanese version of Sailor Moon them has awesome bass, but the English version has an awesome guitar solo (the bass is still there but it's tuned so low in the mix that you can barely hear it.
 
I thought Kore wa Zombie Desu ka's OP was nice but the show itself was meh.

A good show should excel in both, and have a good ED as well.
 
I dont know much abou Anime exept the generic shit everyone sees/saw on Adult Swim but Ghost in the Shell: SAC always moved me as well as Cowboy Bee Bop.
 
Psycho Pass has an addictive second opening (not sure whether it's legitimately good though). Too bad the amazing HD version isn't up, I really love the animation of this opening.

And what can you say about this? It's batshit insane but has a song that's quite sincere and has some sad lyrics. It gets you in this mood where you feel oddly nostalgic on your past childhood and how crazy things used to be and how little a fuck you gave back then. Just like the protagonists then I guess.

My obvious faves like Eva, FLCL, Bebop, Lagann and Lain have been covered a lot so I left them out.
 
Eh... I usually watch the OP every time (unless I am marathoning a show) but most of the time I'd classify OPs as listenable rather than good. I usually find about one show per season with an OP I think "I could listen to that again" but I sure as hell like more than one show per season.

Likely better than 90% of the OPs posted in this thread (I have yet to listen to every post) but most call me mad for liking the show so I'll have to accept the show isn't universally loved unlike the OP.

Well OP, you posted it and that is the Attack on Titan OP. It made for some fun MAD videos but the show has pretty much lost the plot.

But enough about pointing out how silly the thread title is, lets focus on your second request of posting great OPs. You're lucky I found this thread because it would have been much easier just to PM if you really wanted to correct answers.

Being a fan of the first Record of Lodoss War series (great show), which also had a great opening that's enjoyable in both English and Japanese, I would like to defend this but I've never gotten a chance to finish the TV series.

I watched the first season and some of the second and never had a problem with it. I always saw it as Fire Emblem in anime form. I never understood the hate but, yes that OP song is grand.
 
Very true OP.

EVA's opening song was what got me interested in watching it. I even bought the single on CD. Legendary song.
