Answer to the age-old question: Link vs. an Arwing

This is awesome. Some guys were messing around with Gameshark codes and they found one that let you change one of the characters in the Kokiri villiage to any object in the game. People started messing around with the values to see what they could find and, wouldn't you know it, there's an Arwing in the game. It even flies around, attacks, and is destroyable. It's amazing that after so long people are still finding hidden stuff in games like this.

It certainly looks the part, but I don't know if the poor visuals are due to the compression or the N64.

Someone get the code and the Action Replay equivalent we can do this on our Master Quest and Zelda Collection discs.

If it works.

Just watched the video.

That is most definately real.

Wow. Can't believe people missed that.

Here are the codes for the lazy.

I think I have a Gameshark somewhere... gotta dig it out and see if this is really real because honestly I don't believe it, no matter how good that video looks...

That's just wicked. I thought this was going to be about a GameFAQs poll or something, glad it was a much more interesting surprise.

This is why Nintendo games are always delayed :D Instead of working on the game, they mess around all day putting weird stuff in their games

I'm kinda surprised that not just Nintendo, but many game companies leave superfluous junk in their games which is never seen.

edit: just saw the video. it's amazing how fully implemented it is. usually this kinda stuff has a bunch of functionality missing and is really buggy.

Link wins. :O

man, they've found so much stuff already in the oot cart, I wonder if there is anything left

someone has to interview myiamoto now and ask him why the hell there is an arwing in oot, maybe there is one in MM too

I just saw the video, holy shit it fully animates, crashes and explodes too :lol

He might not know about it, could be just one programmer's little secret.

Who? Link?

Any idea what the original values or quantity digits are? i.e. How would we search for this in the GameCube version?

Thanks for letting us know! :)

Edit:

Found it! The codes are by Cendamos & JaytheHam. I know JaytheHam, and he hacks tons of stuff for Zelda games. :)

That's freaking awesome, thanks for the link and the codes. I'm trying this as soon as I get home. I've got an N64 gameshark lying around somewhere and of course I have OoT.

think of the extra time it took that fool to program it into the game's code
was this game not delayed?

Well, the Arwing looks a little like the triforce.

OMG TRIFORCE IN ZELDA!

Someone just needs to find the right variables! there must be an object for the triforce that can be substituted in! I beleive!

uh... how about the acutal triforce that we see in the cutscenes?

People! You aren't addressing the real issue at hand. The game has hidden content that was not identified during the rating process. The IDSA will be furious! JACK THOMSHIT WILL CAUSE CHAOS.

hum... the arwing flies exactly like volvagia, maybe it's using the same AI?

Makes sense. Also, by the way, the Arwing isn't the only thing they messed around with.

How are those high-res texture paks for the emulators going? Did most people realize the scope of trying to make that many textures and give up? I know I would.

Holy fucking cool. Skipped this thread because I thought it was a pointless pole. I mean poll. :)

Well yeah, there is that. I was just being goofy.

I just think it'd cool to walk right up to it in the middle of kokiri is all.
