Opinions on best caliber for home defense? Bill Burr has this bit in an act of his about how a .22 is best because you won't blow out your ear drums in a high pressure situation and disorient yourself. Obviously, its a joke and the guy doesn't know shit about guns but I keep coming back to that. Maybe the guy's got a point?
Someone else asked this here a while ago. You want a suppressed pistol and frangible rounds. In an actual emergency, being able to operate your weapon with one hand will let you actually operate a phone, secure your family, etc. The suppressor makes those things easier. Frangible rounds will prevent stray shots from over-penetrating interior doors and walls.
EDIT: Caliber isn't terribly important. .38 and up is more than sufficient to stop a human. It's more important that you practice frequently with your weapon.
