Any gun owners lurking...

Thinking 4.5 inch. That is an interesting idea about purchasing online. Do you know of the process to then register it in state?

The firearm can't legally be sent to you and they will not do this unless you are an FFL. Most sites have the ability to put in your Zip code and then you pick the local FFL. They will get the paperwork necessary from the FFL of your choice (I only encountered 1 site that wanted you to do the leg work. I said F that and paid $5 more on another site). When the firearm arrives you walk in fill out all the legal paperwork, pay the transfer fee and pick it up.

Hwalker is on point re: the FFL, but you may want to check your local gun shops (and any nearby big box retailers that carry firearms) to see what they can do pricewise for you. Gander Mountain is pretty much always a ripoff, but other stores might be better.

Also, since it's about that time of year, it may be worthwhile to wait for Black Friday - lots of places do some serious deals (even online) then.

The local store that I went to initially was looking for 600 for a new 3.8 xdm in 40 cal. Not too far off from what the Internet is suggesting. Also I am in NH so there will be no sales tax.

Not being exactly up to date on ammo prices what is more reasonable for target .40 or 45?

Usually .40 is cheaper for bulk FMJ ammo by about $5/50. If you're worried about ammo costs (and with good reason - nobody ever tells you the guns are the cheap part of the hobby until it's too late), I'd say look at something chambered in 9mm, which is right around $12/50 right now. .40 runs around $20/50 and .45 about $5 more per box.

I am aware that 9 is significantly cheaper than both but I prefer shooting the higher caliber. I may get a little 22 for later in if I just want to go plinking. And I could get my dad's little Remington if I really wanted it I am sure.

Got one, love it. The recoil reduction system makes it quite a smooth shooter. I got the SBR model so it has the extended barrel. I kinda wished I got the pistol model that doesn't have the barrel extension, but do appreciate the stock on the SBR.

Looks like open carry for handguns in Texas will be reality very soon as a result of Abbott's election. Just a matter of time at this point.

Any decent low cost optics out there? Seems like most local shops just carry overly expensive stuff. Really rather not spend $500 for a simple red dot.

Anyone else have a Tavor? Just got one, took it out and after two mags, noticed the thing smoking pretty good. Concerned me as it kinda smelt like burning plastic and the gun being heavy on the plastics..... But it seems from a quick google that it's not that uncommon a thing, many claiming it's the burning off of the initial lube from the factory. Anyone else with similar experiences with a tavor? Is it a recurring thing for the gun to smoke after it gets real hot or just something that is part of the breaking in process. There is a video of a guy with his smoking hardcore after putting 90 rounds through it.

The gun is fantastic otherwise, but the smoking issue I hope is not going to happen all the time as it does come out of the side vents which pretty much blow smoke right into your face.

Vortex Strikefire 2

Ill look into it.

Though it's not a whole lot cheaper, I've had this on my Kel Tec SU16 for a long while.

It offers just enough to make it easy to take out pests on my property. Pic of my backyard:

I was able to hit a Coyote near that back treeline (a pack was killing my neighbor's goats). I'm not sensitive on the thing, being a hybrid ranch/truck type gun. So it has my seal of approval.

Common. I've had mine for almost two years.

Gonna second the Vortex recommendation - I used a borrowed StrikeFire when I was function testing my AR build and it was a great little RDS. I'd also say that you may want to look in to Primary Arms stuff - they come pretty highly recommended on AR15.com for budget optics and I'm nothing but thrilled with my PA 4x prism scope - great glass with a uniquely useful BDC reticle, plus it's built like a tank.

Today is annual family shooting day. All sides and friends get together and have a big meal and shoot their guns. I can never match my father in laws collection, but I'm going to have some fun today.

You don't recognize the 1911?

Rounding it out, I see a Sig (226?), a little Walther, and a striker-fired plastic something or other.

Of course I recognize the 1911 just not the model.

I'm fairly sure thats a Ruger SR22 not a Walther.

Looks like a 1911, Ruger SR22, CZ p-07 Duty, CZ0-75, and two CZ clones.

Yup. Citadel 1911, SR22, P-07, CZ-75BD, Tristar S-120 and a SAR K2-45 :)

Bought a 20ga mossberg 500, mosin nagant, and a ruger 10/22 as my first rifles.

What do you guys think? I'm thinking of getting a Rock Island handgun w/ concealed carry permit or an m1 garand next

Very cool! I see you're a fan of Czech guns (and copies thereof), too. :)

Got some time out at the range with the AR and my .17HMR yesterday. Good times until a bunch of 'operator' wannabes with more guns than sense showed up. I had my target frame at 100yds and started seeing holes appear all over my targets while i was looking through my spotting scope as my new range neighbors were unloading at their 25-50 yard targets - ultimately, they shot the frame to pieces so I packed up and left. For reference, the target frames/lanes are 3 feet apart at this range.

C'est la vie. At least I got a few hours of shooting in before they showed up. The AR is a 1.5-2 MOA gun in my hands, which I'm pretty happy with for a cheap carbine with a low-powered optic.

Added bonus: Some dipshit brought his 10-12 year old daughter to the range without hearing protection. Fortunately, I keep some of the disposable foam plugs in my bag for just this sort of stupidity and gave them to them.

Wewt, my flintlock pistol arrived. It's a BEAST! The barrel (.69 caliber) is huge and it could easily be used as a sawed off shotgun. In fact it's about the same length as a break-barrel SBS. Hand cannon indeed.

Compared to a 12 gauge shell:

It's hand made from scratch so there are a few minor tooling flaws but nothing serious. Very happy with it and can't wait to shoot it. My only real complaint is that the trigger pull is veerrry heavy but that's probably just the nature of these things. It was meant for VERY close range anyway.

Not a bad pickup, sir. Probably would have gone with a 12 gauge Mossberg instead of the 20 gauge but the 20 gauge is a good starter shotgun.

I know, right? I saw her holding her palms against her ears and immediately started digging through my bag for plugs. I've seen guys trying to use in-ear ear buds as hearing protection, too. Public ranges are weird/scary places sometimes.

I assume this is an outdoor range? They will not even let you on the line without hearing protection in every indoor range I've been to.

The 20 ga is for home protection so my SO and i can use it.

guys I'm trying to decide between the 10/22, the model 60 and the plinkster. Probably won't be going with the plinkster unless I find one for like 100 bucks used tho. Thoughts?

After nine months of going through the motions, I finally bought a gun
safe

Saying that, I did put some money down on an actual firearm, but can't pick it up until sometime in Februrary (I hope). It will depend on the processing time of the Firearms Registry over the Christmas period.

Australian handgun laws....

I have been looking at this thread every time it's bumped.

I usually get a nice shiny new toy for myself at Christmas but I honestly don't know what I want or if I even want anything. Maybe just upgrades for what I already have and some ammo. Giessele trigger for my Tavor. No clue what else.

Definitely a fan. :) The Turkish clone was actually my first one I got. I finally had the urge to get a CZ during the gun craze post Sandy Hook but every one was either out of stock or doubled (or more) in price. Managed to get the clone at Academy for just $349.

I'm surprised they let them on the range. I know some require you have your ears and eyes on before you can even enter. Kudos to you for the extra plugs though!

Cannot go wrong with the 10/22.

Seconded. Great little rifle, and the aftermarket is insane - you can make your 10/22 into pretty much anything. I'm waiting for Center Balanced to get some Raptor bullpup kits back in stock so I can turn mine into a 26" OAL gun that looks like it belongs in Destiny.

EDIT: Took the AR to the range yesterday. Good times as always, and I remembered to take pictures this time:

Alright gun GAF I have to buy a weapon in a few weeks. My options are ...

I know it's up to personal preference, but which one would you choose and is there a reason I should avoid any in particular? They have to be 9mm btw.
