Any gun owners lurking...

Thanks! I went yesterday and actually got a third in the running. A leupold VX-1. The specs seem identical to the Redfield but people claim they are different. The only thing I could tell that was different was that the turret adjustments had much cleaner clicks than the Redfield. Oh man. So confusing. All 3 looked really great though.

I ended up going with a Leupold VX-2. Regularly around $300 but I got one on an eBay auction for $190. Ten bucks less than the Redfield and Leupold VX-1 and only 15 bucks more than the Nikon. But it seems like one hell of a scope and I can't wait to mount it next week!

So I'm thinking of getting into trap & skeet

Anyone have recommendations for beginner sporting 12ga shotguns around $500-600?

Thinking about over and unders, but am open to semi auto or pump action. The Mossberg Silver Reserve II looks really nice but I've read some questionable reviews.

Agreed. My Mossberg 500 came with an extra 28" barrel for hunting/trap shooting, and it works great. I already have a higher end over-under, but the Mossberg is fine for a backup or when another person is shooting too.

Form 1 for my MP5 was approved. Aww yeah.

Mad jelly. A full auto MP5 is my favorite gun I've ever shot. I really need to get me a semi auto one for now but they're damn expensive.

Do you guys do that at a private club? There's no tactical competitions at the public ranges around me since rapid fire is prohibited so I couldn't even practice if I wanted to. And I can't afford the private range dues near me.

We have private ranges all over. IDPA and IPSC competitions within a few hours all the time. They're like $20 bucks or so.

This was a class with a competition at the end of it. This was done at a private range.

Decided to get a .22LR for my first gun. Mainly target shooting but I'm hoping to get some hunting done as well (pidgeon, small game). Would be also interested in .22WMR but the options are more limited, ammo 4x more expensive and the possible species of game not doable on .22LR probably not worth it. Anyway I can get a WMR barrel later if I want to..

Been looking at some options and I was interested in CZ 455 Synthetic but the stock felt really flimsy. Currently leaning towards CZ 455 Tacticool, mainly because of the better stock it has. Savage MkII FV-SR is also an option but I can't import the Tacticool stock for it (I live in Finland) and would have to settle for the normal stock. I could import the Tacticool stock for the CZ because it's cheaper than 100$ but I'm kinda worried about doing that in case I order the wrong kind or something.. Would save me some money though. Anyway the 455 Tacticool has a heavier barrel as well to justify the extra cost.

For reference:
CZ 455 Synth 410€
CZ 455 + import stock 600-700€ (dunno)
CZ 455 Tacticool 850€

Finally ready for the range! Hopefully going Saturday and getting a basic 50 yard zero.

With the brief research I did this CZ sounds like an awesome rifle and you should expect sub-1-inch groups at 100 yards with decent ammo (which is quite the feat with 22LR). I'm not going to tell you which stock to go with, but I do know you will like that rifle.

The only other 22 rifle I can suggest is the Ruger 10/22. I don't know if you can get it where you live (or if it's even legal in Finland). Here it's a lot of peoples first rifle.

Yeah it's supposed to be pretty good rifle. Easy choice :)

We do have those Rugers as well but it might be a bit harder to get a licence for it since it's a semi and you don't need a semi for hunting. But truth be told I wanted a bolt action so I didn't even consider the Ruger even though it's a good gun.

I think I'm about to spring for a Geissele B-G2S-E trigger. I was going to go for the RRA 2 stage mentioned earlier in this thread but read about several issues with it eventually softening up into a long single stage. Any advice?

Hoping to start practical/IPSC soon. Let's see if I manage to fit in the course which starts in two weeks..

Just a little bit worried about the shooting exam since I haven't shot a pistol that much yet (though I can handle one just fine). But I have faith it will go ok.

Finally got to shoot my new ar-15 today and boy is it sweet! I spent a good bit of time bore sighting it, and my shots were basically dead on where I was aiming and only needed very minor adjustments. It was a bit breezy but managed about 1" groups at 50 yards with cheap and good ammo. Was also able to shoot a dualing tree at 100 yds about 3/4 time with bipod and about 1/2 the time standing.

I may need taller scope rings, but I'm going to take it to the range 1 more time before deciding on that. Maybe take some match ammo with me next time.

Nice!

I installed my Geissele trigger today on my AR. All went well except I lost the takedown pin detent spring :( so I figure it's an excuse to go to the store tomorrow and pick up a new grip too.

The trigger break is such an amazing difference. I have a feeling I am now spoiled. It's basically my XSE trigger on a rifle which is nuts.

I ended up getting the Ergo grip. My god! What a difference. The last thing I want to change is the compensator.

Any recommendations? I've got an Oracle 308

What's the consensus on the Glock 19 gen 4? Everything I read is positive and everything people tell me is positive. Someone dissuade me!

Really though, anyone own one and want to share some thoughts?

The early run of Gen4s had recoil spring issues but that was fixed in 2011, I believe. Something to be aware of if you're buying preowned. I usually swap out the spring and guide rod for stainless unit but it's not crucial.

Do it. I'm buying a 19 Gen4 this year with no hesitation. Love my 21 Gen4.

So I'm on the IPSC/practical course. Dunno what it's called in the US, but it's the one you're required to do in order to practice IPSC. Anyway I passed the theory exam about the safety regulations and all that is left is to pass the practical shooting test. Hopefully going to pass in on the first go.

Since the gun laws in Finland are a bit wonky nowadays regarding handguns, I'm thinking about starting with a AR-15.

Something like this:

5132607772_8e02ce5536.jpg

It's called the Uronen Precision (after the maker and UR-15 for fun) AR-15 and all the parts are made in Finland actually except the barrel.

Thinking about the Finn Precision model since it fits my budget better:
http://www.asejaosa.fi/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=71&Itemid=1

Expensive as fuark but not really that expensive compared to how much an AR-15 usually costs here. And I think it's better to buy the kind you want at first instead of buying a little cheaper one but one you're forced to uprade and swap out parts for pretty soon.

That's a gorgeous looking rifle. Are you able to build your own there? I think that's what I want to do for my next AR. And based on those prices if it's anything like the US it won't be more expensive.

I just spent the last couple of hours making about 250 .45 ACP rounds for my next trip. I've got enough components for 58 more but a single stage hand press is exhausting.

After getting my lower SBR'd, I was left with a spare 16" AR upper. Like AR parts tend to do, an entirely new rifle materialized by mitosis.

Do not let this happen to you.

Yeah you're able to pick out the parts you want from their offerings and they put it together for you.

In my case the base parts are already decided for that price but I get to choose the barrel, stock, grips and sights at least. Haven't yet decided on the barrel length... It's gonna be between 14.5 and 18 inch I think. I need something light enough to hunt with but it needs to be accurate enough for practical/IPSC and up to 300m on the range (hopefully). Still pretty much an AR newbie so I'm kinda clueless :)

Anyone have any good links to resources/books/videos about AR-15's? Interested to learn about the mechanics and how to clean them etc. Basically stuff you would want to know before you buy one.

So I went and got a lesson in trap/skeet and sporting clays and I am hooked.

Was originally thinking of buying a cheap Stoeger Over Under 12ga or a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500, but now I'm considering investing in a Browning Over Under, or something that will last longer.

Firearms are legal in Sweden, just need a license. There are clubs, ranges, and hunting to be had.
I did about 30 seconds of research...

I am very aware of this, however quick shooting clubs are only accepting policemen, guns other than normal hunting rifles are not allowed and it is just insanely expensive overall. It is just so very, very different.

You're probably not going to have any reliability issues with a cheaper shotgun, but I can vouch for Browning if you decide to spend more. I have a Citori Lightning and the build quality is just amazing.

You should also consider getting a shotgun shell reloader.

This "light enough to hunt with" nonsense needs to stop. Unless you're a 90-lb weakling, no rifle is too heavy. Seriously.

I'm totally addicted to shooting that flintlock pistol I bought a while ago. But man, I hate how hard it is to get actual black powder. Literally no stores where I live carry it (they only have substitutes, which don't work very well in a flintlock). Finally just sucked it up and paid the $30 hazmat fee for some real GOEX. Looking forward to not having a 0.5-second delay every time I shoot. :p

Consider me a part of the shotgun family now! Nothing special. Mossberg 500 Persuader with a Hogue overmold stock. It came with the pistol grip but I doubt I'll ever use that.

That pistol was $350, which isn't too bad. Like most similar replicas, it was made in India and then converted to a working gun for reenactments, targeting shooting, etc. So it's not exactly like the original, but it's close enough for me. The "purists" hate guns like this, but if they want to spend $1000+ on this sort of thing, that's their choice lol.

The same company (Veteran Arms) makes a really sweet Blunderbuss for $550, which will probably be my next flintlock.

Any thoughts on the kits you build yourself? I've looked at those before. I just want a black powder gun to have one in my collection. Not sure I'll find enough use to justify spending a grand to get an accurate replica

is there a good site that lists all ranges, private and/or public?

there used to be some an awesome shooting range in buffalo on some state land while i was at school there, and i'd like to find something similar around my home.

the shooting clubs with 50 yard max ranges are lame while this was a free range with 50, 100, and 200 yard spots.

Seems like a very thorough list. Most ranges near me at listed there.
