Anyone else bummed by the drought this year?

I get this if PS4/Xbone is your only format. My PS4 has gathered dust since finishing KZSF but my PC is on every day!

Tbh don't really know why I bought a PS4 at release, should of waited a couple of years.

Really? Pretty sure the OP is talking about the current gen only, in which case there's most certainly a drought. We had some mediocre launch games, then nothing for three months straight, then a demo and a game in March (which lasts about 10 hours if you're on PS4)

This has been worse than the Wii U launch/launch window by all accounts. At least there was a couple interesting launch exclusives and then the GOTY in March with Monster Hunter

Pretty much this. I primarily play PC so aside from indies my usual staple of games are reliant on multiplats, and due to the new gen things are pretty dry right now in that arena. Sort of looking forward to Watch Dogs but tbh it seems like it might be kind of bland and another by-the-numbers Ubi open worlder (though I did enjoy Black Flag immensely), Dark Souls II doesn't appeal to me because that kind of difficulty just isn't my cup of tea. I do have a Wii U so of course I'll get MK8, Smash etc, cause what else am I gonna play on that system? Just waiting for a new Naughty Dog/SSM game to lure me in and I'm a go for getting a PS4 :)

I'm never in a drought with Steam! :P

Honestly though, I don't mind. I need to save money.

Also, I'm sure this is obvious but with the next gen consoles entering their first full year, it'll be slow. I feel there's enough current gen and handheld games to satisfy me.

I am a bit disappointed that I won't be getting the use out of my new system like I should, but my backlog is kind of ridiculous, so it'll work out in the end.

After buying 3DS XL and Vita in the last couple of months I can't say that I mind not having many major releases on the horizon. I just bought an instant backlog. My Vita is humming along between P4G, TxK and Lumines right now. I wish I would have jumped in sooner.

Yeah, this drought sucks. I haven't even touched my PS4 in months. I keep waiting for the Destiny beta, and it keeps eluding me. Infamous SS looks like Infamous, Driveclub is AWOL, and I already have The Last of Us. Last-gen releases are even more dire.

The only games I'm playing at the moment are Civ V and Titanfall. Smash comes out in the summer for 3DS, that should be a nice reprieve from the boredom.

Drought? I'm absolutely drowning from the Vita releases alone - literally do not have enough money to even buy everything coming out let alone have a chance to play any of it.

No drought for me. Infamous and Ground Zeroes last month, FFXIV this month, MLB, Transistor and Watch Dogs next month, Destiny beta soon after. How many games does one need?

So far as a ps4 owner who sold my ps3. No.

Destiny beta. That's confirmed?

Can't feel the drought over Dark Souls 2, Titanfall, Infamous, Trials Fusion, regular sessions of Battlefield 4, Walking Dead Season 2, etc. There are tons of games out right now on various platforms.

My Korean friend is one of those guys who just sticks to one or two games a year, and fully dedicates to them. For the last few years it's been SF IV. This year, it's Dark Souls 2. He's made like 10 builds/save files to test each class, and he has I don't know how many hours total on that game. When I was creating a new build on his 360 over at his place, he was just giving me fantastic pointers for what class was good for what stuff. Amazing dedication.

I don't have the time for more than one character. But the game is crazy deep and packed with content. I can see how someone would let their life be consumed by the game.

Between PS4, Vita, WiiU, 3DS and PC, I'm not even noticing a drought, so many games, so little time :(

Yup, and all of my time goes to Persona 3 Portable and 4 Golden :)

If you did not play Wonderful 101, shame on you.

More than enough games to play on my Xbox One right now and for the next two or three months, and its safe to bet that even more will come after E3. Its why I got rid of my PS4 for now. Sony just has their focus split between too many platforms.

The fact that I have all 5 new consoles and an insane backlog makes me never notice droughts lol.

Also, in 2014 alone I've purchased DKC: Tropical Freeze, PvZ: Garden Warfare, TitanFall, and Yoshi's New Island, along with Strider and Trials: Fusion on PSN. Then I have NES Remix 2, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Transistor, and Mario Kart 8 coming in the next month and a half. So no, no droughts for me :)

Wow, better sell up my Ps4;s and get an xbox one then.

Great post, will inspire.

Your so right, Ps4 strategy is just totally wrong, Sony must be kicking themselves. Very insightful.

I have actually used this bit of a slow start to this generation to try things I otherwise would not, I have dabbled with DCUO and quite enjoyed it, also I have enjoyed Warframe, it's nothing amazing but pretty solid for a free to play game. So if your a PS4 only player like me maybe try them out, I heard Blacklight is an ok online shooter as well as War Thunder and both are free. I only have a few weeks and my drought is done, MLB The Show PS4 will create a new backlog, can't wait.

Destiny beta. That's confirmed?

Yes. You can preorder and get access. Already have mine set up from Preorder the PS4 version on Amazon--gives you a link to set up and verify account with Bungie, and they'll send you a beta access code when it's time.

Same here even without the PC.

Haven't gotten halfway through Infamous, Toukiden, Zelda ALBW and Tomb Raider yet and have just started Dynasty Warriors 8 XL. Still haven't opened Dynasty Warriors and Deception 4 on Vita yet and I've been exploring the incredible catalogue of PSP games that I missed out on.

Just gotten Trials Fusion as well as a matter of fact and impatiently awaiting Mario Kart 8 which will most likely eat up many hundreds of hours. :)

It was a little slow in the first few months of the release of the latest systems, but I'm certainly not feeling any drought or craving tons of new releases.

I felt the same was as the OP, after Dark Souls 2 and Diablo 3 I'm completely out of stuff to play! I picked up castlevania to play on the side but I recently hoped into The Elder Scrolls Online and I'm loving it! Atleast get a month out of it and level up someone to the cap and before you know watchdogs and destiny will be out and then E3!

Drought? Maybe if you only game on PS4 or Xbone and/or ignore indies altogether. For someone who just got a Wii U & PS4 and who still games on PS3 and am an avid PC gamer and have both handhelds + has a wide taste in gaming... There is no drought.

The phenomenon you're observing is here to stay. Every major publisher has cut SKU counts due to skyrocketing budgets and severe risk aversion. EA releases about one tenth the number of games they once did. And you should expect more current publishers to die than new publishers to emerge going forward. It's time to either diversify your tastes, consider independent offerings and platforms, dive into a backlog, or get used to the new normal.
Yep, AAA is going to languish, and perhaps the only hope is the Chinese market opening fully for consoles.

As a PS3 and PS4 owner I've experienced so little drought this year so that I haven't even had to resort to buying CoD Ghosts.

According to PSNprofiles I've booted up 27 different games this year, 13 of which were on PS4.

I agree though there does seem to be a bit of a gap between the end May when Watch_Dogs is released and end of August when Evil Within is out. A gap which I will plug with my sizable backlog and FFX HD.

I'm mostly just playing the PS4 and I have too many games! Between BF4, Trials Fusion, Tomb Raider: DE, and Infamous Second Son I've had plenty to do.

Nope, no drought here. Not enough time to play everything I want to and in May I'll be picking up MLB The Show, Age of Mythology, Watch Dogs and Mario Kart just off the top of my head.

So many games. Too little time.

I was speaking for myself. I wasn't suggesting anything of the sort. Its obvious most people on here hate the Xbox One on principle.

There is nothing wrong with Sony's PS4 strategy. They hit the right price, catered to the hardcore audience with their no-DRM policy, and is doing everything they can to court more independent developers. If you own multiple systems in the Playstation "family", then you are getting tons of games to play, and then throw PS+ on top of that.

I personally didn't want to buy a PS3 (again) or a Vita, and was hoping for more games to play on my brand new PS4. Driveclub was delayed, Infamous looked great, and the Order was the only other game at the time that I knew of was supposed to come out this year. It just wasn't enough for me. I may have held on to it if I knew The Last of Us was coming as soon as it is, because that was one of the games I actually wanted to play that I missed out on.

For now I can't really justify owning both systems, and the Xbox One offers me more games to play right now, and in the foreseeable future that I am interested in. I will definitely pick up a PS4 down the line when the price comes down and there is more to play, because I love video games.

Are people really still convinced of and hung up on this? Sigh. "On principle" ends when the hardware came out since we're able to make our own decisions based on what actually exists. Generally that means one's principles are nothing more than "there's stuff I want to play on it".

Oops! ((Edit: See below))

Edit: I am generally aware of the "may have held onto it", so yeah I was pretty stupid.

You're right. My mistake. There are plenty of valid reasons to dislike the XB1, and I respect those opinions. Its just a little frustrating sometimes trying to browse or post on here lately as a XB1 owner.

My ps4 is sat collecting a little dust, my ps3 and vita are getting massive attention. My 360 is very dusty.

I have a huge backlog to get through, just fired up farcry 3 and am loving it, this game is going to take up the next two weeks of gaming for me. Then I have uncharted and tearaway on the vita to get through!

I'm not mentioning the dead space triolgy or mass effect trilogy I have yet to play even though I've owned them for a while, then there's all the PS plus and games for gold games I need to try.

This year I'm going to get through my backlog and when finished, sell it all, then I'll focus on the ps4 and maybe I'll have a backlog of next gen games!

Ghosts, AC4, 2K14, I:SS, plus a slew of indies have kept me busy. No drought here... Plus child of light, transistor, and TLOU coming soon

Considering that I've become a lot more picky with what games I'll play, yes. Thankfully, I have a large backlog of good games that I have yet to play on PC.

I have nothing that I'm really looking forward to except for Dark Souls 2 next week, and Bayonetta 2 sometime next year (although I don't know when I'll buy a Wii U). The rest, I'll just pick up when they go on sale further down the line. Maybe I'm changing. I blame school, though.

If I wasn't an enthusiast of PC handheld and console gaming I might be feeling a drought but since I love all of them I have more games now (and coming soon) then I know what to do with.

OP might want to branch out to smooth out the bumps in the new gen release schedule.
