Anyone else don't really enjoy horror games?

Horror games are awesome.

Puts you on the edge of your seat.

Plus, it prepares you for the zombie apocalypse that will happen in the future.

They're meh.

The only real scary horror game was P.T.

Though I have to admit that Project Zero (Fatal Frame) was pretty unsettling at times.

I really like Horror games but to be honest not even one of them ever scared me (outside of typical jump scares). I like gameplay, atmosphere, puzzle solving etc.

Same story with horror movies, I really like them but rarely they work on me. But "Haunting of the Hill House" is something else - this shit was intense (watching alone in the middle of the night).

Should try Silent Hill 2 if you haven't.

Yeah, I've never really liked either horror movies, novels, or games. I just don't enjoy the experience of being made anxious. Not that most horror novels/movies/games do that. Most are not particularly scary, apart from the occasional jump scare. They're trying to scare me but it's not working.

I do gravitate toward material based on real-world horrors, though - the Holocaust, Vietnam, psychopathic sadists, that sort of thing. I wouldn't call it "frightening," but it can definitely be disturbing. It's the real-world element that makes it so unsettling. With a horror movie/game, I'm always aware that it's a story somebody made up. That removes most of its punch. But when it's something you know actually happened to real people, that's different.

I have to take that sort of thing in small doses, though. It's not exactly light entertainment, and too much of it puts me in a dark, gloomy mood. I've never come across anything like that in games, though; just in books, movies, and documentaries.

Stick to Animal Crossing.

I mean

Lots of violence, blood, scary atmosphere, disturbing OST (some music can be nice, like vocals in Silent Hill), hellish monsters, zombies... :messenger_fearful:

Like, give me a break!!!
I love horror movies, but when it comes to games it's often too much for me. It's too immersive. But SOMA was a great experience and I recommend it to people who don't normally enjoy horror games.

Yeah, it's mainly because I can't handle the tension or jumpscares

Funny enough, I'm actually playing The Last of Us Part II right now and I almost quit during the stalker reveal.

You walk into the building, check out a few rooms, then turn around and bam, that fucker just standing there in the doorway, like hes been waiting. That part nearly broke me lmao

if isn't only a pitch black festival, i like them;
i hate when you can't see a thing, i think new monitors increased this issue

brightness - contrast - gamma option should be mandatory in all these type of games

I don't like them. Real life is bad enough, why would I immerse myself in a scary horror game to get away from the responsibilities of real life?

Don't have it in you to handle blood, guts, brains and decomposed bodies? Jumpscares, loud and unexpected noises? Giant babies running towards you, screaming, covered in aged milk and callin' you Papa? OP?

In all seriousness though, you're missing a lot, but I understand, not everyone can handle this shit.

Depends on the game. If it's something that creates a good, scary atmosphere, then I like it.
But if it's just random jump scares, then it becomes really lame.

I don't like the ones with invincible chase monsters. I mod out Mr X when I play REmake2 and it's a better game that way. Really hope RE9 doesn't step in that pothole.

Ironically, I really dislike most horror movies but survival horror is my favorite genre. I played through all of RE7 in PSVR and it's one of my top 10 gaming experiences of all time.

Hahaa everyone point and laugh!

But no I love them if they're done well. The tighter my cheeks clench, the better the game's quality. Jumpscares are like the 2+2=4 of horror. Good games do not need them at all.

Look its simple when you dont like them, dont play them, who gives a f**k if other people like ore dont like them. I dont like online FPS but i dont care if other people like ore dont like them.

just recently went back to my indie recommendations thread and found darkwood and it's amazing.

honestly, it's a game that makes you anxious to play and that's difficult to find nowadays.

I really loved Resident Evil until Capcom changed the Perspective to 1st Person.

Doing my first RE1 (Switch version) playthrough ever, I must say not knowing whether you are facing a zombie in the next camera change is pretty unsettling when you are low in energy. But at some points it's kind of cheap after a while. Also, since I am here I will complain that the note said they left oil to burn the zombies and just after finding the third mask I realized it wasn't oil, it's kerosene, I thought kerosene was used to refill the lighter. Feel scammed after spending so many bullets killing zombies twice. They could have fixed that in the remasters, it was just a word.

For the 52 games in 52 weeks I've been playing some games I've never played including several horror ones (White Day: A Labyrinth Named School, The Bridge Curse, The Bridge Curse 2, Livestream 2, Signalis and now Resident Evil 1, had played The Coma, The Coma 2 and will be playing The Coma 2B later this year, plus waiting to get Remothered: Tormented Fathers before playing Broken Porcelain and both Fatal Frame). I can't say I "really" like them but I like the atmosphere. Not really into cheap scares but I mostly play at night one of two hours after midnight so it's kind of mood setting, especially on rainy nights.

I enjoy them more 🤷‍♂️

I've gotten softer on gore in film over the years, comparatively. Shit like the Saw movies etc are not my cup of tea anymore, but interactive horror is still ok.

Depends on the game, i loved Fear 1, which isn't just a horror game to be fair, but had no desire to play games like The Evil Within etc, i'm not a fan of jump scare games that have little else, but i know there are plenty that do like them, so horses for courses in the end.

I can stand the new Silent Hill 2 remake...

I just hate stupid games like these.

I like survivor horror games that have atmosphere and a great story.

I don't like horror games because I have better taste than that.

It isn't because I don't like being scared.

It really isn't

Horror is my favourite genre! From the Spencer Mansion's zombie-filled halls to being stalked by a Xenomorph on Sevastopol, there are so many amazing experiences to be had in the genre. I didn't experience horror games until I got my PS1. I had a Sega Megadrive previously, but never played anything close to horror on it. Resident Evil 1 was my first foray into the world of horror, survival horror to be exact, and I was in love the moment the live-action intro played out. I had seen nothing like it before. I loved the setting, characters, story, gameplay, and atmosphere. I go back and play it often. I was playing the director's cut yesterday - just about to enter the caves with Jill. After experiencing Resident Evil, I jumped into the first Silent Hill. Got stuck as a kid, could never figure out the piano puzzle. Went back and beat it in 2023, which was a great feeling. There used to be a store in town, roughly a mile from my house, that used to sell 'chipped games'. I remember going in and buying Clock Tower. The scissorman scared me so much that I didn't play for more than an hour. The PS1 had some memorable titles: Nightmare Creatures, Koudelka, Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Overblood, Shadow Tower, Dino Crisis, Gallerians, and more.

Despite loving horror, I'm not a huge fan of gore. I prefer a scary atmosphere to rivers of blood. I also prefer my horror games to have combat, not one of these modern run-and-hide games.

I enjoy them if they are good. Most "horror" games (and movies) are just "here is a jumpscare! Here is some gore!". And that's not horror, that's just fucking boring and cringe.

Never played clock tower but that cover art was always creepy! The scissors are burned into my mind for some reason.

I begged my mom for RE 1. I was 13 or 14 and the 1st zombie cutscene in game scared me so much I asked my mom if I could go back to electronics boutique and switch it for suikoden! Too old to be scared by that and today it's hilariously cheesy. I didn't have nightmares but I just knew I wasn't ready for the Spencer manor!

I was really happy when RE2 got remade and it's still one of my favorite horror games. 1 of these days I'll try re8 in vr. That fucking baby though!!! Scariest re scene for me off the top of my head
