Anyone else hope that DMC3 brings the series back?

DMC was at one point my favorite PS2 game, and I didn't play 2 because so many people told me it would taint my liking of the series.

I am hoping that DMC3 will bring the series back to it's heights. Then I'll go back and play the 2nd one.

I also hope this game sells well despite the fact that I am not happy with Capcom, and I hope the company is forced to change drastically.

yeah -- kind of a silly question. =)

no, i hope it makes the series worse! i hate good games.

seriously, i don't really care about DMC. i enjoyed the first game, but capcom's sense of cinematic style is pretty much crap, as far as i'm concerned -- bad storytelling poorly dubbed, across every title. i won't complain if it's fun. i hope it's good. but i have no particular attachment to the series.

I hope number three shows the style, arrogance challenge of the first one. I got caught in the slagging off the 2nd one got and the movies and screen shots don't do it any favors. I usually still try a game despite this. I don't believe a screen shot can truly tell you how a game plays (contrary to some of the comments you'd read on this forum). I feel after the release of Ninja gaiden (Different platform by you know comparisons will be made). It’s going to have to prove a lot but with its cheesy cool protagonist and from a play of the recent trail version it looks back on form. The thing is will it be enough when it is released.

The demo was released with the 2nd bio hazzard online (japanese version), Mrbob

The game played very well at E3 and I personally quite enjoyed it. It felt like a comparable improvement from Viewtiful Joe 1 to Viewtiful Joe 2 to me in retrospect, so I think it'll hold up just fine. Despite the fact that it probably won't revolutionize things and that the cinemas are every bit as hokey as before, the game on the whole is far more light-hearted and has a more anime influence this go around (rather than a Resident Evil inspired one like the first game), which I think suits it a bit better. I'm still not real gung-ho on some of the series' staples like the fixed camera angles and such, but it should be worthwhile when it hits. If I recall correctly, it actually had a button that allowed a quick weapon switch, which should benefit in keeping the game's pace consistently higher. So we'll see how it pans out, but I'm certainly looking forward to it.

It wasn't whether you wanted the game to suck it's basically if you have hopes or do you not have hopes...

and as for the poor presentation and delivery... this is true, but DMC's cheesy presentation actually made it pretty cool. wasn't so cheesy that it was dumb. And the voice acting for dante wasn't bad.

Oh no. Fixed camera angles again? One thing I hate about those are is when you move around and the angle switches it disorients the flow of battle. :/ Oh well. As long as the action is fast and furious I'll play through it, camera problems and all.

Camera angles aren't fixed, you can now move them right the right analog stick. You can even reset the camera by clicking in R3 if the camera is in a bad spot

At least that's during battles, maybe there is some fixed cameras when you explore around...I forget

Hm, now you have me questioning things a bit. I could be wrong on that since it was in May when I played it, but I'm somewhat certain the camera angles were fixed, at least in some spots. If I recall correctly, the camera may have panned somewhat to accodomate things like jumping on top of a roof, but I certainly don't recall having any real degree of control over the camera. I suppose I'll wade through one of those multi-page previews that are so common these days and see if I can sort that one out. Maybe there's an EGM/1Up editor or another E3 attendee about that can answer that one.

Still, there were real signs of improvement on some of the series' stiffer points, so I was happy enough about that.

i dunno. I WANTED TO BE THE ONE TO BRING LIGHT TO YOUR SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUL or whatever. not so cool.

personally it's not the kind of thing i find very cool to begin with, hampered by capcom's incredibly mediocre art style, further hampered by shinji mikami's retarded sense of style, and then topped off with bad translation and dubbing.

still, the game *itself* was actually was kinda cool when you ignore the cinemas, and fun.

personally i have so many unplayed games at this point that i'm writing off anything that doesn't make me go OMG MUST PLAY THIS and DMC3 isn't one of those games, so i haven't really been paying much attention.
