So, I have this spanky new laptop that I've been using out in San Francisco, and it's worked out absolutely great. Some wireless problems aside, I couldn't ask for more out of it. However, I ended up not picking up an included TV tuner because I'm an idiot, so I'm using a friend's ATI USB TV Tuner 2.0 in the meantime.

However, there's all sorts of flickering and sound crackling going on whenever I'm playing a game in the ATI TV mode or via DScaler. I've unplugged the USB chord, updated the drivers, messed with the A/V cables, but nothing seems to fix it.

Any thoughts?

It would not work on my laptop :-(
Saying something in the lines like DMA for DVD drive not enabled(when it already was!!!) so the tuner would not intialize at all.

Sounds like a sync issue. Is there anything in the options about setting the fields or interlacing?

better yet, when I try to use my TV card, it doesn't run because I don't have a ATI video card installed (I have a nVidia AGP card). Before I got the AGP card, I had a ATI video card and it worked fine. Do I really need a ATI card to use a ATI TV tuner?

That's very strange. I know Winged Creature has the USB all in wonder and a nvidia agp card (I think the GeForce ti4200) and, aside from the crappy reception, it seems to work fine.

Hmm...I have the PCI TV Tuner card. Not sure if that matters. I've installed the updated drivers and all, but it won't work. Then I run a diagnostic test and passes everything but the ATI Video Card test.
